hihi! i took him for theo 12 last sem so this should be mostly up-to-date with what to expect assessments: - for our class, we had 3 quizzes (supposedly 4, but i don’t really remember why nabawasan) which were a mix of multiple choice/identification - 5 discussion boards + 3 module synthesis assessments (meant as an application of what you learned in class) - the ones that really make up most of your grade are the summative assessments! we had two which were group outputs both synergized with nstp 11-punla - for SA#1, we compiled our personal narratives + social analysis of our assigned sector all into one gdocs (iirc, the final version was roughly 15 pages long?) - for SA#2, we related experiences from our assigned sector to teachings from the gospel + made recommendations towards the underlying issues identified in our previous social analysis - we also had a group presentation where we condensed both SA#1+2 in the span of 45 minutes + a rather conversational q&a afterwards! it can be overwhelming at first, but it’s definitely doable! lectures/readings: - there weren’t really that many readings in class! i’d say i only read like 3 articles and they weren’t even 10 pages long. they’re usually the basis for the quizzes, but they do contain insights that could be useful for other outputs (like the summative assessments) - ngl, the lectures were kinda boring (i remember zoning out half of the time) but if you have a higher attention span than me, you’ll find that sir gives a lot of insights which again could be useful for other outputs - sometimes, we would hold class activities instead of lectures! there’s usually an underlying message underneath for us to reflect upon but they’re quite fun if you ask me - overall, sir’s teaching style can be rather unconventional but i’d say it brings out really good results! grading: - this is where it gets kinda funky imo! sir doesn’t really release grades throughout the sem, but he has a good reasoning for it - he has a “beyond the grades” approach, meaning the students should prioritize understanding and applying the concepts in theo 12 instead of simply achieving the highest possible marks (this approach is really aimed towards character formation!) - since you don’t really know your standing at all, you might think you’re doing badly (especially if say you fail your quizzes) but it could actually be the opposite! ** not exactly sure how but i managed to get an A, even though i missed a few assessments?? couldn’t have done it without my groupmates honestly (yall know who you are ❤️🫡) personality: - sir is really chill for a theo prof! he’s super understanding and makes accommodations, especially during midterms/finals! just don’t exploit his kindness since he can (rightfully) show his disappointment - sir also likes to give the class small gifts every once in a while! (usually chocolates and candies) plus who knows? you might be rewarded for perfect attendance, perchance 😉 tips to survival: - get good groupmates! this is decided early in the semester when you pick which sector you want to engage with for nstp 11, and they’ll be your groupmates for the entire sem, but also… - try to have fun! i suggest getting to know your groupmates and establishing rapport early on + it really helps too to think of them not just as your groupmates but also as your friends, especially when you’ll be together for punla - read the readings! i cannot stress this enough, but there’s so many insights scattered throughout the course that will really help you build a foundation not just for your SA#1+2 but also towards your character formation overall, you should be in safe hands! good luck with the summative assessments especially since they can be quite exhausting, but expect to have a decent (or perhaps even fun) time with sir marlou!more

hello! i took sir last sem so this is based on recent experience in his class: on the surface level, sir agtarap is a pretty alright prof: he grades fair, and is relatively nice to his students. however i will say that i was not a big fan of his class. if you know anything about sociopolitical issues or even just… general empathy, you will not learn anything new in his class. his lectures were long and dragged on for much longer than they needed to. he holds class sometimes to just announce something he could’ve mentioned on canvas. he gives a lot of tedious assignments that didn’t really enrich learning. he is a relatively kind prof, and tries to interact with the students which is one of the things i will commend him for. though there were times where i felt as though he was a little condescending when responding to some of the people in our class who had more non-religious answers to his questions about morality (though that could just be me) he only seemed to really engage with sentiments that were already very similar to his own personal beliefs. there was not a lot of room for the exploration of other perspectives his instructions can be unclear a lot of the time, so if you’re confused be sure to ask him again (from my experience, he will be a little upset if you ask for confirmation sometimes so just prepare yourself for that i guess) he also announces stuff late sometimes? for our finals he only released the schedule the night before the first day of presentations so… good luck. if you want to pass his class i suggest you: - read the readings very well (most of the time it isn’t really about the core of what you read, but about specific details like the authors) - find good groupmates (i was lucky to be in a group that worked well together) - figure out how to navigate his canvas lol overall, he’s pretty lax with the final grade so long as you complete all the submissions. but if you’re looking for a theo prof you can truly learn from, i would suggest you look elsewhere. i will say though, even if i didn’t really enjoy his class, he was a nice guy for the most part. gave us plenty of chocolates and candies 🤷♂️more

Best in a small class, conversation over polish

here in defense of my GOAT!!!! most replies ab assessments are true so i'll focus more on experience! will preface this by saying that our class had only 13 people which was lowk the most ideal setup with sir marlou, because my favorite thing about him was that his discussions are best done in conversation/interactively. i can admit na minsan medjo paikot-ikot yung discussion/sir might not be the most organized BUT the best takeaways are the ones u make when u back and forth with him. when he 'questions' your answer, he's always asking out of a place of conversation. that's what i loved most about being in his class, because he's very open to being enlightened by you, your perspectives, and experiences too. never take it in the way na he's asking questions to belittle you because that was never the case for us!!!! sir's one of the most kind and understanding profs i had last sem. magulo man instructions niya minsan, he will always take the time to help u understand the instructions to his assessments/dbs! he's also very politically inclined, and his discussions are very much about real and timely experiences around the world. di ka pwede maging out of touch sa klase niya. but he's also pretty pop-culturally relevant, we had kpop demon hunters and dear evan hansen in our discussion one time, we talked about minecraft, and he threw a 67 joke later in the sem (???). do not abuse his kindness, love his class, and he will show u that love and kindness back thousandfold!!!!more

also do not overthink and try to clarify everything about his instructions. just answer based on what u understand kasi ang ending niyan you will ask via canvas tapos he will reply sa next onsite session niyo na. just spend time doing it frmore

10/10 would recommend! you have about 4 major requirements (iirc) and discussion boards that are super manageable. no quizzes! be sure to schedule consultations when doing your projects because it will boost your grade (A LOT) + sir likes talking to his students. just get good groupmates and you’ll be fine you also have discussion board posts that are graded based on submissions. so as long as you submit, you get full marks!more

also he said he curved the long test scores but we got around 9-12 ish out of 15 so you can already take a guess how his grading is... additionally in essays or discussion boards he has so many requirements for your answer but limits you to like 8 sentences only and expects you to fit everything in that.. (and more, if you want to meet the "exceeds standards" portion)more

So far the only grades ive gotten are from the multiple choice questions. 1 set being sa quiz, and the other sa long test. Ive yet to get scores from essay portions but the thing is you have to be concise cause he has sentence limits and limited space for you to write on sa midterm worksheet. Same goes for other outputs but with world limits. He seems A-able naman cause of my previous comments but thats speculation for now, dont know what scores my classmates got for their long test essay portion but it still has to have substance or else youll get like 2% off ur final grade because of that essaymore

LTs crammable, midterm and oral need real prep

his discussion boards are LT1 are def crammable (which are most of your assessments for the year) but the midterm needs quite a lot of preparation and oral needs a LOT of preparation, i'd say it's doable but you really just have to set time for these 2. also reading other replies it seems he's inconsistent with his assessments which checks out since throughout the sem he changed a lot from his syllabus so then again, maybe for your class he'll switch things aroundmore

hi op update: just make sure to do well in the final presentation with your groupmates and itll work out he only gave our scores back for lt 1 and i got a pretty low score but ended with an A i honestly dont know how considering his rubric but i think he curved insanely because my group did quite well in the orals but OP he is A-able! I GENUINELY LIKE SIR oh my god!!!!!!! one of the most considerate profs ever huhu he will adjust to your pace and is really understanding if you have a lot of questions about the topic (cue me breaking down in the middle of class bc i didn't understand lol) agreed na he can get a bit disorganized and goes off on tangents quite a bit but it was ubderstandable naman for me bc he's new. he expects the class to be very participative, so do read the readings and answer his questions when you can, as recitation counts for him! he's really responsive to emails and is open to consultations! feel free to ask him rin how you're doing in class and what you can do to improve; he likes when students exert effort!! his daughter's also super cute huhu he told us stories about her and brought her to class our last two meetings lol bonus lang good luck, you're in good hands!!!more

He’s pretty chill 😂 His lectures were pretty boring and honestly I wasn’t listening most of the time. As long as you study the thesis statements for the Orals and pick good groupmates for your final presentation you should be ok. Also! It helps if you talk to him out of class, and try making jokes with him because it will make him remember you more. Not an ez A prof, but manageable B/B+.more

he’s super chill and honestly such a “dad” which makes you feel bad for sort of taking advantage of him 🤧 lectures were pretty boring and it was really hard to stay engaged when our class was in the afternoon and i was seated right next to the window. super lenient/nice also with grading; for sure did not deserve the grade i got but as what the others have mentioned try to speak to him and joke with him a lot outside of class/really show that you’re trying to be involved and interested in the subject and im sure it will get you some points and connect the lessons to your personal experiences for deeper and added insights which he likes!!more

Tbh I was really bored at first because he kept talking abt just the scripture 😩 but as mentioned above, he's a new prof kasi so he's trying to get the hang of things pa BUUUT dude he's super nice and will adjust the way he teachers for u:( he's not condescending at all and will practically give u the answer to a recitation question that he asked HAHA. The requirements are a few quizes on 1/4 and LTs na essay and the final orals but swear super bait niya sa orals (group orals btw) like I genuinely enjoyed orals because of him and feel ko nabawi yung slight boredom ko during class because of his insights during orals:( pls get him tbh i failed almost everything HAHA but I did well sa orals and i got B+ pa rin cos swear super bait niya u will enjoymore

The reason for this is because he was new last sem! Pretty chill prof but be sure to do your readings because he really appreciates input from the class and would get a bit passive aggressive if no one seems to have read it. Sometimes he can get a bit disorganized and repetitive but this can help if you are cramming for orals 😂 Although he posts some of his teaching material in google classroom, he appreciates it when his students would take notes (most of what he would post was only supplemental to his lessons). I wouldn’t worry so much about his class as he is pretty nice but you really have to put in the work if you want your theology class to be meaningful. 😊more
