For our batch, we were grouped according to where we wanted to have our Punla (so by sector siya), siguro ang tip ko talaga ay ‘wag niyo kami gayahin. Very, very difficult to get an A if your groupmates are freeloaders. Pero, I think, in general, very difficult to get an A from CB in general. Sir CB seems passionate and knowledgable naman about the course, and I appreciate that he made sure to teach his students well. He is also [almost always] available for consultations, and you can tell that he’s a workaholic. PERO parang gusto niya ring maging workaholic ang students niya!! Yes, may calendar of all the topics and submissions nga, hindi naman niya nasusunod + hindi pa nga inu-update nang madalas. Minsan, may submissions kami para sa part ng module na hindi pa nga niya nadidiscuss sa class. Isa pang nakakainis, hindi niya agad sinesend yung ppts niya, so kahit gusto mong i-review, wala kang magagawa, go read your Canvas pages na lang kahit kulang pa yung information (tapos medyo corny pa yung jokes dun… informal yung formatting ng pages, pero siguro di lang benta sakin?). Pag sinend niya na, makikita mo na LAHAT ng slides niya for the entire module ay nasa iisang file lang (umaabot siya ng 200 slides ;-;). Tapos, minsan, yung question na lalabas sa quizzes ay tungkol sa sinulat niya lang sa board HUHUU. My tip: MAKE FRIENDS IN YOUR CLASS, preferrably with people na magnnotes and would be willing to share sa’yo if you ever have to cut or if you ever miss something in your own notes. Also, if he’s your NSTP formator… goodluck na lang. It will be a LOT more work for you. There were groups from my class na na-delay yung punla nila because he couldn’t coordinate with the assigned sector (original sched was first week May, naging first week April, tapos nag-iba pa yung sector). Tapos, he called students at 11 PM (the night before their punla) just to ask them to revise their forms. It was partly the students’ faults for not doing it beforehand, kasi CB sends reminders often, just make sure to check Google Chat and to acknowledge his messages. May natutunan naman ako, though compared to my PHILO/HISTO profs (na Filipino din ang required language btw), CB can’t compare… Overall, okay naman siya if gusto mo ng challenge… and if okay ka lang with C+. Ang masasabi ko lang: God rested on the seventh day…si CB, hindi yan magpapahinga!more

he is truly one of the highlights of my admu stay 🤣 during discussions: - lessons are more interesting to learn since makes them relatable to his experiences/real life situations :> - he is so passionate about what he teaches HUHU - there are recits! (hindi naman yung nagtatawag siya isa isa HEHE) but u gain points kasi if u answer! :> - he appreciates it a lot when u give ur insights/open further discussions! — this is what makes him rlly great din! he is very open to what u want to clarify talaga or talk abt 🙂 - his classes r really always worth it <33 reqs: - he is really (super) technical when it comes to essay papers - his quizzes r somehow difficult for me (mga 6/10) pero kayang kaya naman basta u prepare well — galing din naman lahat sa ppt which he gives btw! - for major reqs, plsplspls GET GOOD GROUPMATES! 👍🏻 personality wise: - SUUUUPER kind and considerate! in terms of grading: - i'd say he is a-able w/ effort :>more

had a different nstp formator but i had sir cb for theo 12 and even then, he was still relatively hands on with my group (for nstp) throughout the entire semester. as mentioned in an earlier comment, sir cb's class is in full filipino but he's more than willing naman to accommodate the occasional english here and there and he appreciates it when his students make an effort to express themselves in filipino, especially when you're engaging na with your partner community or delivering presentations. sir cb is honestly one of the kindest profs i've had throughout my stay so far in admu and i absolutely love how he made an effort to get to know everyone in his class. he's very fun to learn from and you'll see that he also shows willingness to learn from his students (hi cc mga polsci talaga) <33 a-able, as long as you take his class seriously (which isn't super hard to do)!more

sabi nila CB kasi C-B raw yung class average but I beg to differ ! Very A-able but get ok-good groupmates. He loves it when there r major takeaways/reflections from class in your outputs. I think creativity helped with our grade but at the same time di naman kailangan try hard to get a good grade. Adjusts deadlines, available for consults, checks up on his students and is a very passionate prof over all. Great at explaining concepts through a down-to-eart fashion. 100/10 would take again. p.s. This is kinda based bec dito ko nahanap yung other grp of friends and bf ko but take him !!more

ang masasabi ko lang BEST PROF EVER. he’s one of the kindest prof ive had in ateneo and he teaches with so much passion. he’s also very considerate with deadlines and asks his students if keri ba gawin within the timeframe he asks, but if not, he tries to adjust the deadlines. very heavy on groupworks so yes get good groupmates but sir cb provides a lot of insights and is very hands on with every group. just ask him for a consultation and he will do his best to entertain ur concerns. OVERALL BEST PROF. 😩💗more

tldr; taking this class was one of the best decisions I’ve made in Ateneo ✨ Learning LibTheo and POFTP in Filipino hit different — mas malalim, mas makahulugan. (see translations below as a teaser forda class) But these concepts had deeper meaning bc of Sir CB’s passion to work with and for the poor. As someone who opted out of religion before (don’t we all at some point?) it was liberating (naks) to know what the Church should truly be fighting for. [Also, if you happen to be the only DS major in his class then expect to be called out every once in a while (in a good way lol)] Yan lang from me, just refer to other comments for more pratical advice hehe — Liberation Theology; Teolohiya ng Pagpapalaya Preferential Option for the Poor; Mapagtanging Pagkiling sa mga Dukhamore

Got him for Theo 12 back in Sophomore year, such a good time. Sir CB’s extremely passionate about what he teaches, and is an overall genuine guy! He makes a great effort to connect with his students, has the vibes of that Tito you can’t wait to see again at family reunions! The workload seems a little heavy, the other comments are right, get good groupmates. But Sir CB’s comments will be very helpful, he’ll be trying his darndest to give you enough info to pull your grade up to an A. 10/10 prof. Even if you’re not a devout Christian, you’ll feel super welcome in his class.more

Best prof tbh!!! He's also my prof in NSTP 11, so the 6-unit Theo & NSTP feels like a 3-unit lang Main Points - Explains very well. He loves to ask for participation and input from the class. Open for contrasting opinion sa mga tinuturo niya - Very friendly and approachable, even sa email and canvas messages - His class is v friendly for someone na not-so religious (he's open for different views and opinions) - Somehow heavy sa group workload, but for our class he had to modify some assessments para hindi ganon kabigat for us - Get good groupmates!!! A-able BUT he will give you the grades/scores you deserve depending on your performancemore

he’s very considerate naman in terms of language, but the workload was definitely heavy, especially if he’s also your NSTP prof. A-able pa rin for sure, but with looots of effort. i think most people in our class got a B+-C+ because of the weight of the reqs and it not being their priority subj. we also found him quite passive-aggressive at times with his comments, but if you get the hang of what he wants/is looking for, you’ll be okay. you will definitely learn naman, and he’s not necessarily an intimidating class to take, especially if the tagalog skills are of your concern. good groupmates is the key for sure:))more

I've been seeing a lot of people saying "don't take Bernardo," but he's honestly the best professor I ever had, in my whole Ateneo life! One of the best, that is. He's great at what he does. We had a foreign classmate who spoke zero Filipino, but sir was very considerate with their situation and allowed them to speak in English. I think his standards might have gotten higher since I took him, because he was A-able before. Based on my own experience, just show that you're trying your very best. He does his best to make the topics engaging, and he jokes around with it, kinda like "dad jokes" typa thing. That might not be everyone's cup of tea though and that's fine; I hope you find comfort in it anyway! Overall, great prof, and you are in great hands :)more
