Maraming course requirements pero sinasabi niya simula pa lang kaya mahaba yung oras para gawin. He encourages everyone to recite in class. Sobrang knowledgeable at makwento about his life experiences. Basahin at mag-RESEARCH tungkol sa readings para hindi mabigla sa quizzes. Maagang natatapos ang class kasi yung last 3 meetings, consultations :)more

Makwento si sir. Nakakawala ng antok yung stories at yung "aura" niya. Magaling din siya magturo, at ini-illustrate niya yun in entertaining ways. Hindi hassle sa requirements, konting papers lang at walang LEs. Super konting exercises lang. Pero hindi nasasacrifice yung pedagogy. Provides a relatively long period of time to finish all reqs.more

Magaling si Sir magturo. Madami kang matututunan sa kanya, feeling mo babagsak ka lalo na kung 'di ka nag-aaral bago mag-quiz pero pagdating ng grades, pasisiyahin ka nya. Madami siyang kwento, tips, advices, sobrang effective niya at napaka-interactive ng class, uhmm. Iwasan lang sigurong ma-late tapos always participate and be active.

Accomplish the requirements at your pace! These will be given at the start of the sem. Sessions are filled with lively discussions and poem consultations, so attendance isn't really so much required. Take him!more

Four papers: Preliminary Report, Critical Paper, Concept Paper, and Position Paper. There are much free cuts since he really gives you the time to work on your paper and evaluates a cluster of people for a time. Just go on your specified date. Take him!more

Fun prof. He is very frank, which makes his lectures lively. I noticed that he plays favorites when it comes to recitation though. Grading system is vague though. Just keep in mind the requirements and due dates.more

He took attendance when class began but later on, he stopped taking attendance entirely. Fun prof, very liberal, and likes to talk about erotica (lol). Has a lot of requirements--although they're given at the start of the sem so write at your own pace. Learned a lot from his writing workshops!more

Mahirap ang papers pero mataas magbigay ng grade si sir. Very frank at funny at minsan sobrang interesting ng mga stories niya. May pagka green minded nga lang si sir haha pero sobrang galing niya magturo and he's so open for consultation. TAKE HIM!more

I think he just gives 1.25 to everyone regardless of what you do. I got really low quiz scores and got that grade anyways. Boring class with super repetitive concepts.more

Ok naman siya pero nakakainis lang kasi di niya binabalik mga drafts namin. Mas nagfocus lang siya sa mga poems nung patapos na yung sem wherein pinagpresent kami lahat lahat. Nag pa midterms siya pero walang finals, tas di rin namin nakuha yung test paper after. Marami siyang req's haha so good luck! Pero mabait siya and approachable naman :)more

MAHILIG SIYA SA SEX HAHAHA So gawa ka ng short story or poem na may sex scenes or about sex. Pero dahil mahilig siya magsulat about dun, asahan mong mataas standards niya when it comes to that.more

TAKE HIM. 'Nuff said. De jk. Ok sya. Yun nga lang mahihirapan ka sa paper kung procrastinator ka haha. May "defense" kayo at the end of the sem pero kalma lang parang nagku-kwentuhan lang. Wag kayo ma-late palagi kasi mag bi-beastmode sya. haha lol friendly, approachable, helpful. Take him and you won't regret it (wag tamad sa reqs!)more

Very chill. There's a quiz before every topic but it's open notes. The lectures might get a bit boring and repetitive after a while tho so it's a struggle to stay awake. There are only a few requirements and they're honestly not even that hard. Only thing is, if you actually want to improve your technical writing skills maybe don't take this prof.more

He's a good prof. Required ang attendance, 30% siya ng grade. Nakakaaliw yung mga discussions. Chill naman siya. Participation is highly encouraged. All you have to do is read the required readings indicated sa syllabus and pass your papers on time.more

doesn't really bother to check attendance around halfway through the sem. has a lot to say. please, DO YOUR WORK EARLY. ask questions. try not to disappoint him, or else no one gets a flat 1.00. well, i still got a 1.25, so make of that what you will. minimal work. all quizzes/tests are generally open notes, he allows digital readings.more

He gave me a 1.00 even though I barely passed the midterm and passed a requirement late. That said, your grade will depend heavily on your final paper. There are a lot of free cuts because of his 1-on-1 consultation scheme. He gives many examples, and he is very entertaining. If you like trivia, then you're in for a treat.more

Has a lot of comments and insights (sobrang dami swear, you'll learn a lot!). He makes it clear naman what he expects from your outputs, and he gives a lot of helpful tips and advice. Quite chill, just pace yourself through the requirements and you'll be fine.more

Mabait si sir. Maraming kwento pero alam mo talagang MAY LAMAN ANG SINASABI niya. At your own pace ang research paper. May due dates lang pero kayang ipasa on time. Worth it siyang kunin. Unoable pa! basta ipasa mo ang papers mo on timemore

Attendance is super required! He is awesome. I have learned many things from the linguistic perspective but sadly, these could not be translated into the required outputs. There is a lack of lessons that would further imbibe to you the skills needed in the professional setting. Take Sir Chaves if you want a chill sem rather than an informative one.more

Naku dreaded ko ito noong una kasi research writing at yun lang talaga pagkaka-abalahan niyo for the whole sem, pero dahil magaling magturo si Sir, ok naman. Hindi nga lang niya ibinabalik yung bawat part ng paper, pero reasonable ang deadlines. Thankful ako na na-take ko siya dahil wow first year kailangan ko ito bilang foundation sa research. :)more

Super chill class because he just gives the requirements (portfolio of 7 poems, 1 short story, 1 memoir, 1 sonnet translation) at the start of the sem and due at the end of the sem. Medyo boring sometimes but his (few) quizzes are easy and 1 poem reporting besides the portfolio. Approachable but has a tendency to interrupt you while speakingmore

He's strict about punctuality and closes the door by 7:01AM. Altho he became less strict about it towards the end of the term. He always goes to class prepared. Discussions are interesting esp. when students also recite. He likes telling stories. Reqt: portfolio + exam (open notes) + presentation. Just don't cram the reqts :)more

Sir Chaves speaks well & shares many of his stories and opinions (though you may not agree with them.) We barely had any time to discuss because of the fire, so the class wasn't guided enough throughout the RP process. He can be malabo regarding submission so make sure to clarify! Overall, I didn't learn much and did my paper without his help.more

Sir is an okay prof. His class is organized and ilaang papers lang ang kailangan mong ipass. Pero 'di niya binabalik yung papers so you won't know talaga kung nasa right track ka. Medyo nakakadisappoint lang din. 'Di masyadong nagtugma yung lessons sa requirements niya. Pero he is approachable naman.more

Attendance is part of the grade - don't ever attempt to be late. Lessons are all over the place but still, there is something to learn. Requirements are a portfolio, a group report/activity, and an individual poetry report. There's not much that I've learned with regards to CW 10 itself but Prof. Chaves is ok. Btw, he's an award-winning writer.more

SUPER GALING. got an uno even tho I had 5 absences and so many lates (he's v particular w attendance) and I did ok lang on the quizzes. just do well on your portfolio, you will get an uno for sure. he talks a lot but with sense. gives a lot of short stories to read. he likes to talk about sex so don't take him if that makes u uncomfortable. :)more

Took his 7 am class, sobrang effort magising ng maaga for this class kasi unpredictable sir pagdating sa attendance. minsan 7:05 nag checheck, minsan sa end ng class. He appreciates early comers. Mag recite ka lang and pass requirements oks na. Open notes ang Long Quizzes, minsan out of nowhere to so wag mag absent after discussion of one topic.more
