Hello! I’m the beadle for his Theo 12 class this semester and here are my thoughts
OVERALL:
- Feedback from numerous semesters ago are definitely outdated. We were scared to take him at first, but taking his class made all the difference! He’s definitely improved and evidently learned from all the criticisms from previous SYs. He’s definitely A-able with effort!
PROS:
- He has a system called CEMS that you do at the end of every period where you just have to summarize what you learned in class on Canvas. He also added this as a way to get exempted from the final oral exams!
- Groups are asked to lead the opening and closing prayer + discuss a brief summary of the previous session with your every start of the class. This is alternating, so you might do it just twice or thrice in the entire semester.
- Quizzes were scheduled to fall every first meeting of the week, but he stopped this about a month into the course. Quizzes are simple multiple choice and essays. Reading through the Canvas modules would be enough + taking down keypoints from his lecture.
- He teaches in Filipino, but he understands that not everyone is fluent so it’s ok if you use English in class and in assessments!
- Sir is considerate when it comes to deadlines. He makes sure that everyone’s input is taken into account and that it works well for everyone. If you have any issues with his class, he will make sure to be considerate as well.
- He likes hearing insights from his students, even if it’s very simple lang. It’s okay to speak your mind in class since he likes the interaction 😆
- Light to moderate workload! Other activities in the course included a paper and 2 group activities (infographic and presentation on NSTP). He grades fairly with an in-depth analysis on the strengths and possible improvements of your work.
- He sometimes gives out activities for incentives and plus points like an optional TALAB paper.
CONS:
- He has a policy wherein those who come in after 6 minutes are late, and those who come in after 11 minutes are marked absent. He’s lenient with this usually, however. He would sometimes ask the class if it’s okay to mark someone late instead (when they should’ve been absent) or just to not mark them as anything.
- His teaching is not structured, to be honest, but it’s because he’s just really passionate about the lessons 😅 His messy flow of teaching may not be for everyone. It’s best to just listen and take down key highlights from his lecture if you want to learn.
TLDR:
- He’s definitely a changed man 🤣 and having Theo 12 this semester with him was really fun! He’s considerate and really shows concern for his students. Reading through the Canvas module and listening to his lectures are key factors in getting a good grade. Just be sure to communicate with him if you have any issues with the course and he’ll do his best to help you.

TLDR; super A-able as long as you submit your reqs and do it with effort :’) i think auto-perfect kaagad if you submit those assessments na worth 1-2 points each 💯 longggg modules and readings but digestable and interesting naman ✨

-i can say i defo learned a lot ! i like topics regarding humanitarian and social actions, and most of the lessons are regarding that
-course is also eye-opening because palagi nagpapakita ng various social realities in PH in connection to the lessons and readingsss !
-the class finished like a month (?) or so before finals period, and we only had to submit a group project then — so more time to focus on other subjs :>
-super chill synch classes, parang group post-processing sessions lang + he really takes time to ask EACH and EVERY ONE how they are 🫶🏻(but one time, he did forget to ask me so edi ok HAHAHA)
📌what i didn’t like
-LONG AF MODULES AND BLOCKS OF TEXTS (note that his class is in filipino !!!!!) idk if it’s just theo dept thing but i do remember him saying na a bunch of theo profs yung nag-organize nung Canvas course
-ALSO LONG AF READINGS na kailangan mong i-annotate with the class sa Perusall. andaming kailangan i-annotate pero worth 1-2 points lang HAHAHAHA
-👻 because
a.) nung natapos na namin yung modules, he kept cancelling class until the last day LOL. our class was at 8 a.m. and the main problem was he announces cancellation of class ng after 8 a.m., so we’re all just there waiting for zoom to open tapos wala pala class. personally, by the third time he cancelled class, it kinda sounded like an excuse to me nalang every time SORRY KINDA MEAN HAHA 😭🤣.
b.) like what my friend chloie said, bulaga sa grade because he doesn’t give back grades or any feedback. we tried asking, and he said he will give, but he NEVER did !!!!!! daheel
lastly, c.) he gave wrong gradeS to my classmateS (yes, emphasizing na more than one person), tapos antagal bago nila na pa-grade change 😢
-he also doesn’t give the recording but he doesn’t really discuss during synch so HAGAHSA nothing to miss really
but anyway, despite “what i disliked” looking longer than “what i liked” i believe you’re still in good hands with him in comparison to other theo profs i heard and the theo prof i had for theo 11 #traumatized 🤧more

If you're considering COMILING for your THEO next sem, here's an updated review (ONSITE).
TL;DR: he's not worth the stress and gaslighting.
Attitude: He makes it seem like he's progressive and open to discussions when the truth is he's the FARTHEST thing from that. He's RARELY ever amenable to switching/changing things up, despite it being more convenient for him and the whole class (to be fair he had a good reason to do this ONCE, but the other times hindi na). He's not very understanding, and his 'leniency' that he showed you the first few meetings? He'll probably use it against you when things go wrong (even if they're for reasons you can't control).
Lecture: He doesn't teach. We'll spend 30-40 mins. in class just discussing his class policies EVERY SESSION, and mind you all his sessions are ALWAYS ONSITE. There's also a quiz every Tuesday, when he doesn't even teach anything. TBH the only thing you'll learn from him that's actually useful and applicable irl is to empathize & care for the needy, which you can easily get from other profs as well. HE'S NOT WORTH IT.
Modules: Packed with stories, but LACKING IN CLEAR DIRECTION. His modules are Tagalog (some in English), but mostly all in Canvas. Rarely requires you to read outside of Canvas naman, maybe around 1-2 reading materials lang for the whole sem. Though his modules are pretty average when it comes to reading time, they really have no clear direction and you're most likely to gloss over the thing he'll quiz you about because there's rarely ever emphasis on the topics lol
Workload: Pretty light naman, but he has quiz every Tuesday. He'll quiz you with the most absurd stuff on the modules. You really have to know Tagalog if you want to pass his class, because his quizzes are Tagalog and the things you have to memorize are also in Tagalog (and they're quite malalim).
THEO-NSTP Coordination: Bad :)) he refuses to talk to the NSTP profs to inform them of our final presentation dates. Also, he hardly makes any compromise for the effects that their bad coordination has on our assessments kasi we "shouldn't care about our grades" because we're "good people," whatever that means.
I honestly have no good words for his class. He doesn't listen to opinions and he cuts people off during presentations. His class was not interesting at all for a lot of us, and his instructions are unclear but VERY LONG. The class was dreadful and... I wish I never took him 😭more

As someone who beadled for Comiling, yeah even if you consider the merits of his teaching style and ESPECIALLY the general conduct of the class, I would still have to say he is a hard NO.
Attendance wise, while what OP is speaking about might be official Ateneo policy, it doesn’t excuse him from the other insane things he has done in relation to attendance (he once gave a zero to a classmate who missed a quiz due to health reasons even with medical evidence, held class on a day when QC suspended classes, never allowed for online even when there was severe inclement weather, etc.)
On his teaching style, he spent a good chunk of the class time discussing class policies that were discussed since August. His Canvas pages are good, but this doesn’t translate into his lectures.
As for his classroom conduct, he is incredibly inconsiderate when it comes to assessments. He almost gave one of our classmates a 0 for missing a presentation in a day when QC suspended (even though said classmate contributed a lot to the presentation). He also made us cram 5-6 frameworks in a strictly-timed 20 minute presentation and didn’t even follow his own self-imposed 20 minute QnA, which actually went overboard by 12 minutes.
He also doesn’t communicate well. He told the class before the final oral exam that he will be announcing the names of those who were exempt from the final. He never got back to this, until I had to message him and find out that no one got exempted, a DAY before the first orals.
So yeah, to summarize, stay away for your own sake.more

agree with big time (but do note that we took his class last sem (jan 2024-25 so he might have changed his teaching style) he seems like a nice guy at first but he kind of has a tendency to humiliate people in front of the class. like for example, if someone is over cut, he'll announce to the class abt it and ask them what he should do and if he should give them a W or if the class thinks he should just let it pass (he kind of gets mad tho when you don't answer the way he wants). he also is not very forgiving in the question portion of the final presentation, so critical and kind of unreasonable with his critiques. he also gives lots of mixed signals and unclear instructions then will grade you a zero if you don't comply. rip.more

Agreed with everything that said.
Additionally, sir tends to take half the time recapping the last session. The session tends to be very unproductive because of it. He also expects you to know things he doesn't teach and earlier in the sem, he had quizzes based on modules he hadn't discussed yet.
Furthermore, I'd like to emphasize that sir grades based on how much you follow what he has in mind. Trying to get an A is a process of a constant guessing game instead of closely following rubrics and deepening your own understanding about the discussions.
Loadrev if you can. I literally have 4 majors this sem and I'd rather take another one than take Theology under himmore

i had sir kc for theo 2nd yr 1st sem and i like this course
pros:
-progressive and open-minded; chill and very kind.
- very accommodating and respectful of different beliefs and identities.
- he connects his discussions to current issues facing the world.
- it was an 8am class and i am always 30 min late due to traffic but he still put me as present
- very lenient on deadlines
- i am fluent in tagalog but i believe he allows english answers in discussions.
- few requirements but mostly by group.
cons:
- lots of discussion boards but i dont think its recorded
- slightly boring
- had to annotate readings tho it can be simple.
overall, i like sir kc and his class. even if you are not fluent in tagalog, i think you'll still enjoy his class and at the same time, get a high grade.

Hello I know the current sem has not ended but I think I've been under enough to make a definitive review.
TL DR: All the reviews are true. He is *that* bad. And this is coming from someone who beadled for him.
Pretty much everything that has been said about him so far in this post is still true. So I'll just highlight the worst things about his class.
1. Extremely poor class management. He discusses the class policies and announcements every class period and it eats up half of the class time, leaving barely any time for substantive lectures. It's hard getting anything from his lectures, so you'd rather read the modules. The modules themselves are okay but there's a lot to digest.
2. Attendance. For a subject whose topic is about God's compassion, Sir is the least compassionate prof I've ever had about attendance. Several times have there been typhoons and transport strikes and he has insisted on going onsite despite the class pleading many times to have the class online. Additionally, Sir is not considerate to commuters. Since my class was the first period on Monday in Bel, some of my classmates struggle to arrive on time and Sir marks them as absent.
3. Grading system. Sir is extremely by the book for grading, which means every output of yours must strictly follow his criteria, leaving no room for creative freedom with his requirements.
4. NSTP presentation. My final presentation experience is what compelled me to write this review so early. We sent the presentation to Sir for feedback days in advance (please do this by the way, it genuinely helps you get better grades) and we had two rounds of revisions based on Sir's comments. However, during the actual presentation, Sir was still nitpicking our presentation over things that he never brought up during the feedback sessions. Also Sir wanted us to add a lot more concepts in our presentation even though we nearly ran out of time with what we already had (he is very strict with the 20 minute time limit and we already had like 5-6 major concepts in the presentation).
Pretty much the only tip I could give you for his class is to really suck up to him. Send your final presentation to him for feedback, participate in class so he remembers you in a good light, all of that. It makes the experience somewhat more bearable.
However, for the sake of your sanity and wellbeing, please DO NOT take him.

How to survive: recite and show up

Just recently post-processed our group presentation and I very much agree with a lot of the posts here (mainly because we were in the same class). To those however who, like me, experienced a lapse in enlistment, I'll tell you how you can survive his class. (credentials: been called one of his "valedictorians")
1. Recite: Although the mode of instruction is in Filipino, there's no problem with reciting in English and Bisaya. His questions naman are answerable. Reciting more would rack up your presence in class. Lecture-style he is more verbal and the classes are sparingly somewhat symposium-like. Though he talks a lot, there are also times when he would ask the opinions of other people.
2. Attendance: The policy with regards to class attendance is indeed straitlaced, however for as long as you are present, you can answer the two-point synthesis which can potentially serve as an alternative to the final assessment, or at least that's what it says on the syllabus. Not sure how they'll be factored but for better safeguarding, answer the syntheses whenever you are present.
3. Additional work: That said, do the discussion boards, perusall homeworks, etc. Little things but they contribute to 20% of your grade already. (Haven't been doing them though during midterms season)
4. Quizzes: Generally before midterms at least for us, we would have a surprise quiz almost every Monday. However, there's a chance that you'll come across topics you didn't study in the modules. Answer to the best of your abilities; I found out that my Theo 11 education greatly helped here. Otherwise, always be prepared, and it'll be no problem.
5. Criteria: I cannot stress this enough. Very by the book when it comes to instruction. Especially in major projects. Best to strictly comply with the instructions and rubrics. It would fare well for you, save for some things he might find lacking even if it's not part of the instructions.
Posting reviews is not something I usually do, but I figured to post these while the semester is still underway, and hopefully help those enlisted under this class. Don't be discouraged, and do your best 💪more
