review for HIRANO, Mayumi for JPN 11: Japanese Language and Culture 1 TLDR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ very A-able!! i love her sm, take her!! overall a very very chill class :> WORKLOAD - very light workload!! worksheets and chapter tasks are done asynchronously and are either passed via online or on paper (depending on the assessment) - we had 2 onsite quizzes, 1 online asynchronous quiz, and our final exam was also asynchronous ^^ the online assessments are timed though, and time pressure can be a bit overwhelming - honestly, just do well on the worksheets and quizzes and it'll be A-able AS A PROF/ONSITE LECTURES - during our time with her on the previous A.Y., she's very considerate with the deadlines esp if the extension is something that the class have agreed upon (tho please don't abuse this one) - she really guides you during class, like she calls for everyone and makes everyone do mini exercises with ur neighbor (aka ur seatmate!! she calls it that and i found it really cute tbh) pero dw even if it's confusing at first kasi chill lang naman siya! - vvv responsive prof honestly, i usually contacted her via canvas and she replies pretty fast as long as it's within office hours - what made her memorable to me was that before class (specifically before she takes attendance), she shows us videos related to japanese culture. i remember her showing us the japanese greetings song and it was so cute it got stuck in my head for days 😆 HIRAGANA, KATAKANA, KANJI - i suggest that you go through hiragana and katakana in advance na! though naiintroduce (?) naman siya during class, most of the time spent practicing for these characters are done asynchronously (and iirc may worksheet din ito to practice) - as for kanji, it'll be tackled sometime after midterms pa! i hope this helps!! goodluck for those taking JPN 11 💫 and feel free to add more <333more
