No taekwondo background and still got an A
positive
4.0 attainableYes
i had 0 background in taekwondo, i couldnt kick high enough, and i dont always hit the kicking pad with enough strength. i just compensated by memorizing and properly executing the sequences and self-defense moves. i also did not win in sparring. with all of those considered, i still got an A hahahaha
when it comes to his teaching style in onsite classes, hindi siya namamahiya ng mga hindi super magaling sa taekwondo. i remember committing a lot of mistakes in one session and he made a speech at the end of the class about how it’s okay if you cant get everything on the first try 🥺 he only calls out those na maiingay and halatang walang enthusiasm to be in class (which is vv understandable). at first he’s super intimidating kasi ang baba ng boses niya and balbas sarado pa hahaha but he’s very nice and approachable so dont hesitate to ask for clarification if you’re executing the step properly or not.
he checks attendance talaga and applauds those who never missed class. also make sure to submit your id pic on the day of submission kasi may deductions sa attendance if you dont.
tips for his class:
- attend all his classes, if possible. watching his videos does not compare.
- be wary of small mistakes. like make sure to really shout in counts 8 and 16 or ensure that your legs are positioned wide enough per step
i hope you’ll enjoy his class as much as i did!more

Nice sir, cameras on for forms, asynch vids in one go
positive
WorkloadLight
For online, he required us to turn on the cameras during synch classes. This was so he could check if we were doing our forms correctly. Also, before practicing the forms, we had to do some warm ups.
For asynch, you only had to submit vid requirements. All of the modules and moves are available on his youtube channel-- which he'll post on Canvas. That means you could film all reqs in one go if you wanted then just submit on their respective deadlines.
Sir's really nice! He would answer any questions you have and tries to make class fun. He likes it when you participate. Please attend the synch sessions if you can, they were part of our grade. Also, you could see he got sad when we were the only few participants who came 🥺
If you had a coloured belt, I think you'd still have to go through all the modules, but it'd be best to ask sir about that to be sure ^_^more

Warm up is the hardest part, just the basics of taekwondo
Intensity wise, it's not that bad. The warm up is probably the hardest part of it and, again, it's not that bad. Stretching, few laps around the martial arts area, body weight exercises (push ups, sit ups/crunches, planks, squat thrusts, whatever else he makes you feel like doing). You can pretty much take it at your own pace, but he will call you out if he sees that you're absolutely not even trying.
The curriculum is just the basics of taekwondo - punching, kicking, and forms. Not very applicable in real life, but that's to be expected for a white belt course. For midterms, you'll have to take a promotion test which is just a demonstration of the different forms and maybe some taekwondo history (both are memorization). For finals, it's a sparring match. Just don't get disqualified and you'll be fine.
Uniform and the promotion test cost money though.more

Hello! I had him last semester. I agree with the other commentors who said he was really chill! For us, we had weekly synch sessions. He’d help us practice for the module due that week with drills. He’s super lenient when it comes to submissions! He always extends and grades high hehe. Make sure to have your cam on during synch sessions unless you have a valid resson not to, otherwise he’ll put you in the waiting room! I scheduled some consultations with him but they were never tuloy 😞 i think its because his desktop was broken and he was busy with his other classes. His modules were kinda long to do lol HAHA but i still had fun doing them. Btw his modules are youtube videos ! Hehe overall great profmore

If you're physically unfit the struggle is real, try to avoid
negative
Retake?No
if you're physically unfit, THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. sometimes we wouldn't warm-up and just run 10 rounds around the martial arts center. it was my first pe in college and I was so shookt because it was my first martial art too :( it makes you super lazy to go because it's in the morning and makes you not want to show up huhu. try to avoid it!! it's in the middle of intense martial arts offeredmore

Taekwondo wasn't tiring at all, tricky part was memorizing forms
Taekwondo wasn't tiring at all. The tricky part was memorizing the forms for me. And I think all PE classes will accommodate to each student accordingly anyway. :)more

Doable if you aren't sporty, just memorize kicks and forms
Hi Caitin! For someone who isn't sporty at all, I think his class is doable. You'll just get tired from the early exercises since it's a bunch of "warm ups" like sit-ups and push-ups in a row, but other than that, all you need to do is memorize the kicks and forms!more

i'd say he's a pretty chill prof. had him during the 1st semester. during sync sesh he would recommend that u open ur camera so he could assess ur postures but he's not very strict. we had weekly video submissions but worry not because he uploads the exact same routine that u must follow. for the video requirements, he would love if u shout louder and kick more powerful, also mind the posture.
i think for the coloured belters, he gave more advanced routines but he still grades fairly.
fun fact:
he shoots his videos in different places and there was one time where his car was damaged so the video was postponed. he even sent pictures of him and his car that was being repaired 😆 inaabang abangan talaga namin mga background ng vids niya hahaha
overall, would take his class again! A-able naman ☺️more

I had him last semester! I was a colored belter but he didn't give extra work or anything (not sure if he'll still do this). I only attended the first three(?) synchs and passed some reqs late but still managed to get an A cuz sir's super nice and understanding:) You just have to inform him beforehand!more

ALRIGHTIESS UPDATE:
Easy A. Especially if you have background experience in Taekwondo. If your course is really heavy and you know your forms, take this. All you have to do is to film yourself doing the forms and kicks. I recommend you do it early para di mo na kailangan isipin. Synch sessions are for practicing the forms and kicks and warm-ups.more

Hi! For synch classes, he required us to turn on our cams so he can check our forms while we follow him. We only had to pass one video per week and he links his youtube channel where he posts everything u need to pass for your vid requirement. For colored belts, in some synch sessions he’d make them stay a little longer then he’d create a separate module for them so they could pass vid reqs that were more difficult than ours. He’s an easy A naman hehe and sir’s really nice!more

Fun PE, understanding coach, bring a jug
positive
Taekwondo PE in general is pretty fun. They teach you the basics and how to spar (which is your finals btw). Coach is also pretty understanding and would push you to do better. For me the venue though was pretty hot at times (or maybe because it was nearing summer). I suggest you bring a jug so you don't have to line up for the fountain :)more

pros:
- he grades reasonably naman as long as you pass reqs on time + attend classes
- guides and helps you naman esp if you don't have any background on taekwondo
- uploads his tutorial videos to help you
- on video assessments (you are free to use his tutorial vids in the background as reference and its ok kahit marinig sa video mo HAHAH)
cons:
- when i beadled for him, it's kinda hard to reach him since he takes quite long to reply
- he sometimes decides surprise practical tests on that day mismo (this happened when the sched was tight) 🥲
- drills and cardio (pero thats expected naman)
- also sparring as your final practical test (btw we have to pay for the mouth guard for this)
overall, he's ok naman and a fun prof! he cares for your health din so its ok if di kaya ung drills or such. got an A as well in his class hehe good luck!more

I took him during my freshman year and as someone with no background in taekwondo he was really understanding and helpful . Those with no background were put in a group and were made to do easier drills than those with experience. I got an A in his classmore
