just suck up and act like you’re locked in. my grade was at an F but because I acted interested the whole sem/asked questions she gave me a chance to bring my grade up lol. (and don’t EVER argue with her, she will take it personally and make your life harder)more

Lessons are great, class is tough. Being beadle is even tougher. Whatever you do don't be beadle 🥹 just try to recite often in her class. She prefers Tagalog, but okay lang naman Taglish as long as mostly Tagalog. She listens naman to your thoughts, but she doesn't communicate very well. You'll probably get a C to B lolmore

b with no effort! 1. maam is very info heavy during the lectures, bring mints so you wont fall asleep. 2. the papers will be a big chunk of your grade so PICK GOOD GROUPMATES. 3. try to recite as much as possible! maam appreciates it a lot, and she WILL remember you. bb carlota has got to be one of my favorite teachers, but not lecturer. she tends to go off topic a lot, but i did learn a lot from her lessons. its a shame we ended the sem so early😅more

interesting discussions altho they sometimes get dragging, and a lot of groupworks/workshops (so get good groupmates!) grading was tough at first, but i noticed that she appreciates unique ideas, citations (always remember to add this), correct and consistent grammar, and class participation. you can refer to the rubric in the syllabus. wag mema, she can sense if you put effort or not she also gives bonus workshops and quizzes which can help since the lowest quiz and the lowest workshop are not included in the computation personally, our section having an award in the optional sagala ng mga sikat really bumped my grade up 🥹 1st place got 100 (a), 2nd place got 99 (a), then 3rd place got 98 (initially dapat b+ lang pero ginawa ring a yay) as the highest possible grades in the final assessment worth 20%. there can be deductions pa from peer eval but you'll be good as long as you contributed well :>> so, if collaborative naman ung class niyo, i would suggest trying out for the sagala ng mga sikat if meron next year; forda memories too 💗more

Vv A-able with effort! A lot of the older reviews here don’t capture how she’s like these days, she’s definitely softened up on students and has been far more charitable w regard to grading. A few things I’d advise: 1) Get good groupmates. Almost 70-80% (yes, that much) of your grade will be coming from group activities. Make sure you have groupmates that are (a) competent ofc but also (b) put in the effort to critically think 2) On the point of critical thinking, make sure to have good ideas in your outputs. She won’t be assigning that many readings (In her own words, she thinks students are better challenged if they find their own material to cite), but its best to reference the readings that she DOES assign because they’re closer to what she expects you to apply. Don’t just do surface-level analysis of an issue or topic, always try to explain the deeper context behind the issue. Honestly, writing the papers was so fun! Medyo mabigat pero it’s a diff paper for each module and she doesn’t require a full research proposal as ur final requirement. 3) Don’t get complacent. She gave out a breakdown of our advisory marks after the midterm and I was at about 96-97%, I thought I was going to get an A no matter what since my group was getting great scores on all our activities. I think we kind of got complacent with our proposal for our final requirement - it was a Tiktok video, topic to be selected by the group—you kind of have to integrate what you’ve learned throughout the sem. She scored a bit harshly for this activity for other groups as well, but I definitely understood why we got such low marks. Feel free to consult her honestly, you’ll get a better idea of what readings to highlight and which direction to pursue for your outputs. With regard to the lecture, yes it can get boring but she also doesn’t allow electronic devices in class so it’s really an invitation to pay closer attention as well! While she may seem like she’s going in circles sometimes - her lectures can be quite insightful if you just give them a shot. Also, not rlly sure about how she grades recitations since there weren’t many opportunities to recite in our class, but do take the opportunities to present your work if she ever asks you to. 4) Low quiz scores can be bawi-ed since she offers a lot of bonus points. I even missed a quiz (10 pts) and had another one wherein I scored 7/20 but it barely made a dent on my overall academic standing. However, my group had really high marks for our papers (>95% ave) so that definitely helped Good vibes prof honestly and not the terror that she’s painted to be.. people do change talaga hehe Will respond to specific questions if there are any! She doesn’t fail students as well I think. Definitely A-able with effort, B/B+ if you don’t get good groupmates and/or struggle with expressing your thoughts in Filipinomore

Hi! Im currently under Francisco, Carlota. Has anyone whose already taken her class know how much she "curves" the class' grades towards the end? She's shown us only 70% of our grades and said she's yet to compute for the 30%. I feel like even with a perfect 30% Im gonna land on a C+ I'm really suffering from her class and need some kind of assurance 😞 I couldn't loadrev cuz I'm a freshie. omg i had her as a prof last year and i got a high B+, she showed me my exact percentage, bc my group did really well on the paper. thats what you should really focus on. also the presentation! another note, she does not like it when you’re late bc she will remember that forever lol. also make sure to do your hws she will really check that. i feel like you can paawa her lang with your paper etc bc i know shes considerate. my other friends who had other groups that didn’t do so well got a B bc they just kept consulting and did well in the presentation! anyways, goodluck:) shes actually a really nice prof hehemore

Hi! Jane and I were her beadles last sem, and we can say na she’s good naman! She grades fairly as long as you put in the effort. Very open to negotiation din siya about sa deadlines, just tell the beadle a bit early because she tends to reply after a day or two. I guess a con lang for her is that she’s strict about grammar on your final papers. Recitations are also graded! Honestly she was one of the least problematic profs of my sem when I took her. She also provides great feedbacks in consultations for your papers, so do exhaust her consultation hours! A-able with effort! (coming from people who got an B+/A sa kaniya na hindi beadle hehe)more

Hi! I had Ma’am Carlota for Fili 11 in freshman year. I’m not sure kung clear pa yung memories ko but her class was tough. Although I would say na Ma'am really knows her stuff and na-enjoy ko naman 'yung mga lessons. Akala ko magaling na ako sa Filipino dati but she proved me wrong 😭. She would have quizzes per module ata and then groupworks. We had to produce a research paper at the end of the sem. But the direction she wants us to go to is hard to grasp.. My advice is to get good groupmates! And be her beadle kasi she curved the beadles hahaha, based on experience lang. The highest she gave for our class is B-B+. A-able ata but WITH MAXIMUM effort. Good luck! If you can load rev... HAHAHAHA go lang. But I still bring talaga 'yung learnings ko from Ma'am Carlota's class even to today na Junior na akomore

hello! got her last sem! and hindi po siya ang easiest path to life. one thing for sure, she is mother and she has the expertise talaga na mapapahanga ka. ill feel that as long as you really try to be active in her classes, you'll find it interesting!! (kesa sa chika lang sa likod) for the workload part, super bigat ng paper. as early as possible PICK YOUR GROUPMATES WELL!! make sure that the people in your group has a good work ethic kasi kahit sabihin mong magaling ka sa filipino, HINDI MO SIYA KAKAYANING MAG-ISA. (make sure na ikaw rin matino, mahiya sa mga kagrupo, especially for scholars) defying moment din ang comments ni maam carlota, so expect low score in your first draft. this will push you to kinda hate her pero utilize her consultations in able to get better score. HINDI CRAMMABLE ANG PAPEL!! side note: napagmix up niya ata ang mga ppol sa recit namin kasi eme eme lang ang recit grades, mabuti 10% lang siya. utilize 2 attempts sa quizzes for higher chances of winning, pero again, paper talaga ang mabigat sa kaniya, SO DONT CRAM!! pick a doable topic. A is possible pero with MAX EFFORT AND GREAT GROUPMATES with a sprinkle kf headache, magdiwang na sa B+, ave grade siguro is B/C+ good luck, hindi siya madali, but find value kay madam cbf!more

I took CE 195.2 under Ma'am Reese. She clearly knows what she's teaching. She came from an engineering background tapos she recently studied at UC Berkeley for the entrepreneurship. Magiging critical siya sa mga project proposals (which begins early in the sem) niyo lalo na kung to ensure its feasibility tech-wise and entrep-wise, pero that's where you learn so 'wag matigas ulo and wag masyadong clingy sa idea, learn to be agile. By the end of the semester, you'll have a solid tech start-up with business model and tech background which you'll start working on by the start of the sem pa so may full sem for ideation and research. Madali kausap si Ma'am Reese. Maraming nahihiya and that's understandable pero I think mas matututo talaga kayo if you consult with Ma'am Reese every now and then kahit yung mga final 10 minutes of the class lang so she can provide inputs din to whatever you're thinking for your project. The class is actually pretty cool too 'cause Ma'am Reese designed it with minimal lectures and no exams. Rather, the subject content is mostly composed of group activities that will allow you to network and think outside the box. There were also several keynote speakers from start-up companies and intellectual property office invited by Ma'am Reese to talk in our classes.more
