A-able as long as you do his requirements (i personally got B+ because of his highest grade removal system but oh well). his workload is heavy bc you have to read a lot and some are by group, but personally besides that, i found his class to be very fun and different than the usual learning setup. i think it makes up for the amount of work we had to do for him. literally the best introduction to my freshie year ever and i hope you feel the same way when you have his class!more

Legendary prof sure but man does he just grade randomly/have the most difficult to reach or understand standards sometimes. If grading is a concern for you honestly its possible to get an A its just very very hard... didnt enjoy my experience much because of that tbh (as a scholar)more

hiii sir ambeth a is a legend in Ateneo. you’re lucky if you got him pre enlisted. in my opinion the workload is fun (and justifiable) it is the most rewarding and fun class ive ever taken. what sir does is to really get you out of your seats just to learn history and i think he just likes to show that Ateneo has THAT kind of assets. other reviews mentioned 9 essays, but it’s actually more than that. imo, he gives out sm bonus points from extra papers and it doesn’t hurt to do them. be sipsip. write outrageous but substantial essays (i once accused rizal for having a romantic relationship with his mentor iirc basta it was when i was reading his memoirs) sir will like it if you think outside the box and really go into the details of the past. easy B/B+ and A for effort. his As are not impossible but if u get one u can brag about it hehemore

The Ambeth Ocampo experience is great, for you get to travel for some of the papers, the stories and lectures are awesome, but since Intersession is short, it will seem cut. However, the experience is worth it.more

You won't finish all his lectures during intersession, but the stories and insights are definitely worth it. Be prepared to read more within the shorter sem. Also, papers would be every few days. Still though, get him!more

Took him last sem for histo 11, and GOAT. You will always be in awe every time u leave the room after his discussions. While his workload is very very challenging — his discussions are always so good! This is coming from someone who always loved history, so i never had any issues with him and the subject itself. He is def not easy A because the questions he ask during quizzes/long tests are something you will never NEVER expect. For the papers naman, just do well, even the optional ones! Write it with your heart because he can see through it.more

As someone currently taking him this sem, imo the tldr is he teaches really well, but the workload is from hell 😂 Lectures are informative and entertaining, Sir manages to insert his personal stories (which are often funny yet still relevant to the lesson) Sir also really tries to humanize our national heroes or rlly just histo in gen So workload wise we constantly have tons of readings and essay assignments (both indiv and grp), tho he gives most of these weeks in advance. I think we’ve had at least 9 essays this sem (combining indiv and grp), not including optional essays Manage ur time well ig 😭 hope u like writing And hope this helpsmore

i took histo 11 under sir ambeth! for me, he’s super a-able as long as you put in the work :> the workload can feel a bit heavy sometimes since there’s a lot of readings and papers, but his lectures are really fun and interesting! just make sure to take your time with the readings and really digest them. let yourself explore the ideas and enjoy the process of interpreting them. sir ambeth loves curious takes, but he also looks for insights that are grounded and well-connected :> we also had a few group tasks! iirc, sir was the one who assigned the groups (or alphabetical ata), so fingers crossed you get good groupmates 🙏 and honestly, as long as you submit on time ++ do the optional papers, and genuinely understand the readings, you’re good na :))more

±10/10 experience HAHAHAHAHHA, that man truly is the goat. i do agree that as long as you do good in your papers that you should be well off with your grade. doesn't mean you get an A tho. sir doesn't really discuss the readings, but there is A LOT. and you can't even get away with not reading them since you need them for your papers. you will also do a lot of hands-on things with regards to primary sources. it is true that the workload is absolute hell HAHAHAHA required papers is 9 so far yes (indiv n group), but including optional essays and for other reqs i think i've written 14 for him. you'd be writing essays and doing readings over and over again to a point that you can't help but be burnt out. he's very open-minded with your insights, and loves learning from what you write. JUST DO NOT BE LAZY WITH THE ESSAYS. the way he grades his quizzes should also be a canon event for you guys but i think its gonna be revealed one way or another LMAO overall, i'd absolutely take him just for the "ambeth ocampo experience", would def wear that badge with honor once you survive him LMAOmore

He has a fantastic sense of humor and often shares fascinating anecdotes about his life as a historian, even if they're not directly related to the course material. Plus, if you do attend, be sure to participate actively – ask questions, share your thoughts, and engage in discussions. It shows that you're invested in the material and can leave a positive impression. Now, let's talk about the workload. Brace yourselves for a considerable number of reflection papers. He'll assign them on a wide variety of topics, ranging from the extensive and sometimes challenging readings to more unexpected and thought-provoking subjects like your childhood favorite food or the complexities of Spanish colonialism. The tricky part is that he never explicitly states which papers are graded, so it's crucial to give your best effort on every single one. Don't slack off on any assignment, as you never know which one might significantly impact your final grade. But fear not, there's a silver lining! He also included two bonus activities that were a welcome change of pace. We got to visit museums and write reflection papers about our experiences, which allowed us to connect the course material to real-world examples and explore history in a more tangible way. The online format meant no long, stressful exams, primarily just papers. He appreciates it when you bring fresh perspectives and critical insights to the readings, so don't be afraid to think outside the box and offer your own interpretations. One unique aspect of his class is his grading policy: he drops your highest paper grade. So, if you have an A, a B, and another B, he'll discard the A. This might seem counterintuitive, but it actually emphasizes the importance of consistent effort throughout the semester. Don't rest on your laurels after acing one paper; keep pushing yourself to improve and learn from each assignment. All in all, while getting an A might require dedication, consistent effort, and a bit of luck, it's definitely achievable. Just stay on top of the readings, put your best foot forward on every paper, actively participate in class discussions, and embrace the unique challenges and opportunities that his class presents.more

It was very easy tbh. Had to time travel lang to the 1890s to talk to Jose Rizal(I call him Peps we’re close now actually) and get to know him yourself. Go back to the present with tea from your new national hero bestie et voila, easy A. P.S. don’t tell him about Mi Ultimo Adios unless you wanna mess up another timelinemore

Since his tasks were always to submit an essay…Read the assigned readings and write well!!! and do the optional tasks for plus points 🙂‍↕️ Started to like histo coz his discussions are superrr insightful (youll be learning smth new everyday i would say) Didnt have any quizzes with him, if ever we did have a quiz it was jus abt your opinion and like super short lang sya (+++ it doesnt affect ur grade if u got a low score 😅 the points only count if u get a high grade iirc) No final exams dinn we just had to submit an essay Tbh as long as u do the assigned tasks youll be good hehe Overall i had fun in his class:>>> and would enlist in his class if i could!!!more
