any thoughts for how to get a good grade in his group quizzes? are his group quizzes like every person in the group answers a question then he grades you based on how your group cumulatively did? has anyone tried arguing na unfair na mapull down ang grade bc of group quizzes? tysm 😭😭more

Clemente is a legendary prof in the making. Class lectures on point. Siyempre given na you do your part by actually listening reading and absorbing lessons. Grading is inconsistent he leans toward people who write like him and explain like him haha may narrow margin siya for what is correct tbh HAHA but overall solid naman you'll probs get a B for doing everythinf right. A for philo minor level. You'll question his grading talaga but hes actually really fair compared to the real terror philo profs

MAAM JACKIE IS THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. Very structured, manageable workload, wonderful readings, fun and super approachable. Class will never be boring. You'll really learn to love philo when you're her student. She's such a great philo mom too. <3more

pros: - you will learn a lot! he teaches in a straightforward way and tries his best to explain lessons as clearly as possible - he's not super strict and even goes along with the students' vibe - he relates the lessons to real-life scenarios, which is super helpful and makes the requirements more manageable cons: - the requirements can be pretty challenging, esp the midterm exam. you REALLY need to study and go through the readings - he tends to look for specific terms or phrases in quizzes, so be mindful of that--you might not always know exactly what he's looking for overall, I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. pray well (for the quizzes). rlly loved and enjoyed his class! his lectures are v concise and he explains the concept rlly well. he also encourages class participation before the oral exam + v approachable for consult din. to get a high grade in your class, you need to: - do the readings! there’s group quizzes and if you don’t contribute, he asks the members to email him if they think you’re not deserving of the full mark. it is also open notes! (con: its random groupings) - watch the movies so you understand the group reports - make sure your report is aligned to the lesson and concepts - your oral exam is by pair, so prepare for it w ur partner kasi you’ll be sharing the time naman + you will both be answering the questions afterwards - midterms is easier than expected kasi he gives out some sample questions that will rlly give u the idea of how he will be crafting the exam i remember getting getting a low grade in some of the quizzes but u can always bawi naman. he’s also b+/a-able!more

oke going back to this after surviving clemente for philo 13😭 in terms of grading, i'd say his class is hard (as in HARD) A🥵 but ok tbf magaling siya magturo! he will definitely make u learn (as in genuinely learn) ethics! i really like the way he explains concepts in class -- very simple, logical, and direct to the point! highly recommended if ur qpi can still afford to get C - B+ 🤣 it's so frustrating and unfair lang if you'll end up with grpmates who didn't read the readings for the pangkatang talakayan 🙃 it will really pull ur grades down kahit nagpuyat ka pa kakaaral!more

TLDR: i really gave EVERYTHING for this class, but it just wasn’t enough… this is a review for onsite 23-24 first sem! took him bcos of recommendations from my friends but OMG even my friends who retook him regretted it HAHSKJHD ok for context, he’s implementing this new assessment called Pangkatang Talakayan in which it is a weekly group quiz (grouped randomly, every week your group changes) where you will discuss and answer 3-4 questions and then u guys will do a peer eval after he grades LOW and tbh i think his grading is inconsistent (sometimes we’ll get 4 and the next one we’ll get 1) you think you’re doing great in some days but the next day you will literally hit rock bottom LOL i also think that his requirements are too much: 1) weekly quiz; 2) 2 long tests; 3) group reporting about a movie; 4) orals you rlly can’t bullshit ur way through the quizzes and you legit have to go thru the required readings tbh i have no tips for this class… prayers methinks (C+ to B-able with the highest effort, B+ to A if philo god)more

Got them online, hard (dare I say impossible) A, B+ able with Great effort, C+-B with medium effort then probably like D-C for min-no effort GRADES LOW AND INCONSISTENTLY, pero mabait so.. idk what to say. they were my lowest grade for that sem and I studied so much and still harbor the negative vibes from the grade I got LOL. TLDR: You will learn something at the cost of your grade and sanity. Setup: - Your grade will most likely come from 1 or 2 (online) exams, 4 group quizzes, 1 paired reporting, and 1 group reporting - Group quizzes were a hit or miss. Groupings were announced on the day of the test. One small mistake in your choice of words can result to a 1-point or 2-points deduction out of a perfect score of 4. Your group will be given a set of 4 questions and the average score for the 4 questions will be your group grade. It helps if your provide examples. - The exam. Honestly one of the most difficult exams I took in my whole college life. I’m not even sure if you can study for it since it was based on the films you’ll be watching and the application of the readings. The average score for his classes was a C-C+. He had us retake the test with a lower point corresponding to your newly corrected answer. Still saw people getting 1.something out of 4. - Group Reporting. This grade component requires everyone to report on one of the six movies he will give you. Probably the easiest to accomplish among all his tasks. Maximum of 1 hour. CONSULT with him. - Paired work. Hmmm mixed emotions on this one. Scores weren’t made aware unless you ask for it. Some of the people I know did okay for this one, most didn’t. You could philosophize as much as you can but if he already saw holes in your defense, YOU’RE COOKED. He will give you a list of guide points which were unhelpful. But ultimately it’s not how bad you performed, it’s how much he deducts from your score when you commit minor mistakes that takes you out. Pros: - Relatively short readings. - Teaches well and tries well to explain the theories. - Only consider’s you late 10 minutes after the bell. Though considering that some of his classes were in bellarmine, it should be the decency afforded to you. Cons: - Does not explain the lesson nor the readings before the quizzes. - Not all parts of the reading will be discussed so it could be confusing which ideas he actually wants you to use or not. - He expects only objective answers (which should be the case) and leaves no room for other similar interpretations. Your intuition, no matter how valid or close to the idea, is not valued in his class. - Very rigid and strict adherence to his syllabus. The syllabus will not be your guide nor friend, it will be your enemy. Best to read it to heart beforehand. - Grades very INCONSISTENTLY and gives absurdly high deductions. Short anecdote: We had our group presentation scheduled in the middle of April 2024. This was the time where cancellation of classes occurred due to the heat. Our group apparently forgot to bring an adapter for the ppt presentation (ppt wasn’t need though). We asked him if we could borrow his adapter and he said we should borrow from SEC-A instead. I assumed he didn’t bring any since it was just a presentation day. Our classroom was in bellarmine. My group mate had to run from bel to sec-A under the April heat, 12:30PM, to get that adapter. After our presentation, he took out his adapter and started using it to present his ppt for a few reminders. The look on my face was of pure shock. A deduction for borrowing your stuff would have been nice. 😊 Personal comments: - I was able to read some of the group quizzes from my classmates, one had a near perfect score and the other having a 2/4. MINIMAL DIFFERENCE. The one that had a lower score also had an example and both contained quotes directly from the reading. - I don’t believe that groupings will affect your score by a lot since he grades inconsistently nga. Some people think its about being lucky with your groupmates but honestly most in my class were diligent and smart people, most were from honor’s courses but the results were still dismal. - I consulted with him multiple times but I only got nonchalant responses which honestly didn’t do anything to help my grades. - Basically, if you get low grades in his class, it’s on you to how you’ll improve. No help from him. - You are on your own in his class, unless you enlist with friends. He does not care about how you perform, so try to fend for yourself early on by only trying to think of how he wants you to think. - I believe he likes to put a barrier between him and the students. Nothing wrong with that. But trying to get near an (your) instructor to try and learn more or salvage your grades does not mean you’re being a kiss ass. Conclusion: AFAIK from asking around, the average grade he gave was C+ to B, you can have that by putting much effort. I think you can get a B+ if you try your hardest, get paired/grouped with people who absorb and execute only the things he only wants (and excludes their personal learning or interpretations), or if you’re lucky with the universe.more
