Take him if you will actually do the readings, can tolerate a fast passionate lecture style, and want a chill, deadline-flexible sociology/GE instructor who replies and consults. good luck.. i dont think hes as bad as people frame him to be tbh. I took SOCIO 101 under him and sir Art and got a B+. I wouldn't say I worked super duper hard to get it cause all I did was do what I was supposed to do (eg. read the readings, listen to his classes, participate in class), but it wasn't easy per se... If you're not interested in sociology, you'll probably find his classes a snoozefest cause sometimes he gets ahead of himself (hes super passionate!) and start talking wayyy too fast and you won't be able to keep up it was difficult to keep up even for someone who actually likes sociology so I had to self study a lot. he also used a lot of sociology jargon which I GET since it's a socio class but also ... it's a 101 class so i assumed we wouldnt be using jargons we werent taught yk..he gave us two books to finish on top of other readings: invitation to sociology (socio 101) and sociological imagination (socio 102). i read the entirety of invitation to sociology and i actually found it nice but man it took a long while to finish so get ready for that... sociological imagination wouldve been a good read if he didnt give us like a week to finish it... but lowkey that's my fault cause he kept giving us extensions to finish it and I kept not wanting to lolhis quizzes were mostly online for socio 101. we had three under him iirc?? marx, durkheim, weber... those were pretty easy as long as you read the readings for each sociologist, which werent long so you'll manage. the reflection papers he gave were manageable. you wont get your score and his feedback until months afterwards which is annoying, but he was OK at grading so ull Live...if you still have two profs teaching your socio, that's gonna be so tough. since we had two profs, it was super difficult to smoothly transition from topic to topic. it felt as if they didnt communicate well enough because sir abletis would mention a topic that hasnt been discussed by sir art yet, and everyone would just look at sir abletis in silence. i feel like that's why people really had a difficult time in the socio 101 class.for tips, participate!!!! social science classes are always more fun if it's an actual discussion instead of a one sided lecture he's overall ok imo!! as long as you listen, participate, and read the readings, you'll probably get B pataasmore

And this is already exerting effort going through the long ass readings he gives.

as someone na naging random first ever beadle nya (he was new then) ok naman sya. replies p promptly when u reach out + is v lenient w deadlines. i accidentally left a quiz open bc i had to attend to something rly urgent and thought d time would stop elapsing if u exited the tab for a bit (di pala LOL) n he was rly understanding abt it n reopened d portal for me when i let him know. also found his lectures super interesting n kita naman na maeffort talaga pati asynch content nya. had him for quarterly nga lang so everything felt rly compressed pero siguro naman things r a little less packed now. maybe consider other profs muna if ur workload’s heavy as is pero kahit mabigat i def learned alot. mej dinedemonyo sya pero i think A-able with considerable effort ! abletizzle kayod era </3more

matinong prof!!! sobrang thorough ng modules & nagsstick mga lessons:,) his lecture videos help when it comes to understanding the readings, as far as i remember. he is a kind prof & he really knows what he's teaching <333 kaya rin yung mga quizzes basta magaral lang + mostly open notes din naman.

i was assigned to his class by AISIS and in our first synch session he explained why he makes us take quizzes: ‘Pangit lang sabihin, pero i want you guys to read the readings kasi. All the quizzes are HEAVILY based on the readings, so if you don’t read, you will fail’.

He's good naman! Just that the workload and the regimen do not complement with the second year program of study... Definitely listening during his classes is a big help and would make you understand more, though if this subject is placed in a day with 4-5 other subjects... probably can be energy consuming. Especially the readings and studying for quizzes if time management is tight. (I realized I didnt leave a proper review so this is my ambag nalang ^^)more

hi!! i had sir abletis during 1st sem 2425, and assuming his workload hasn’t changed:- expect 5 online quizzes about the assigned readings! these are usually by topic and not rlly based on his onsite lectures. test types are mulcho, TF and occasionally identification (for specific terms/systems)- 2 individual papers (intro to modernity and talab-related) and 2 group papers (one is enlightenment related and the other is a reflection on the group presentation). he looks for specific keywords/points tlga and can kinda spot bola,,, he also likes concise papers! as such, he may not grade as high But not super low naman ^^ roughly B/B+ average for papers, possible A with effort- group presentation about an assigned article that covers a relevant, specific social issue in the PH. grading here is: 1/3 of the grade from sir, another 1/3 from random classmate #1 and the last 1/3 from random classmate #2. in our case sir graded fairly naman on his part- no recits whatsoever in his classes!more

as much as possible maybe not this one he’s very nice and understanding naman, allows for those who can’t go onsite to go online and you can tell he genuinely loves and knows what he’s teaching. so far we’ve only had 2 individual papers, one of them being about TALAB. get good groupmates as well! they are very much key to surviving.but,,, he speaks really really fast and tries to shoehorn as much information as humanly possible into one sentence and it leaves you feeling overwhelmed most of the time. he’s very nice so if you don’t understand just clarify and he’ll explain it but i feel like malilito ka din sa clarification niya also his quizzes omfg. run for the hills. you could be given 10 years to study for his quizzes but you would still not be able to get the passing HAHAHHA but maybe that’s just memore

I don't think the comments saying should loadrev understand that is probably a socio major so they can't loadrev socio 101 is literally part of our IPS (as a socio major). My advice for is to show up, read the readings, and pay attention. Or don't. I overcut, didn't read the readings, and barely paid attention. I still got a C. Very accurate and straight to the point (especially pointing out that his PPTs are "word salads") Do note that his quizzes are a lot of jargon, and you really have to know your terms. The PPTs are a great reviewer for that though, but there are some that are only present in the readings. Such a lovely way to put this review together and I commend for taking her time to do so.more

Took him during intersession 2024 On assessments: -We had 5 quizzes - 1st quiz - 20 pts (multiple choice and T/F ata lahat) - 2nd quiz - 60 pts (multiple choice, T/F, identification, and short essays (yes tatlo yung short essay in the quiz) - 3rd-5th quiz - you choose the topics you’ll answer, no essay, same questions as 1st quiz) -2 short individual reflection papers (500-700 words) -1 group reporting and group paper about the report topic (6-7 members) -1 group paper about an aspect of modernity and enlightenment period (4 members) -Participation is 15% of the grade but I barely recited and still got an A On… di ko alam ano tawag first time ko magsulat ng review HAHAHA: -Lectures flowed well naman and powerpoints were very useful, kaso sobrang wordy cause “everything is important” -Quizzes are heavily based on the readings and his powerpoints -Sir replies very fast to emails/Canvas messages -VERY VERY VERY CONSIDERATE WITH DEADLINES (I think he extended the deadlines of every single one of our outputs except the first short reflection paper which he gave on the first day) -readings are… so long… but sir explains each reading thoroughly naman -VERY VERY PASSIONATE! YAPPER! BUT IN A GOOD WAY! (ata?) -honestly his passion for the class and lessons made me so interested in SocSc 12 but he’s a yapper and I almost always get overwhelmed every session because there’s so much information and everything is connected to everything else (He connects the lessons to real world examples) -does not force people to recite -workload was manageable and I didn’t really feel pressured w the deadlines and outputs because I had good groupmates bonus: he doesn’t care if you eat in class! take it frm me who would bring gonz plates to 3rd floor Berch Overall: you’re in good hands! he’s a good prof! he pauses his lessons to make sure everyone still understands, is considerate w deadlines, and is willing to guide you more if you ask (esp. during consultations)more
I’m not so sure if this is still applicable bc i took his class last year 2nd sem (quarterly) pa. Sir really knows his stuff. He teaches clearly and is vv organized. Combo of synch and asynch sessions (w/ captions/script) + ppts + canvas + readings. He’s not vv strict w due-dates pero i suggest u follow them kasi mabigat talaga workload (mejj nakakaiyak 😭) (~5 graded DBs, essays, multiple choice LTs, groupwork finals tapos mejj marami pang readings). May hinahanap siya na depth sa essays and dbs and need rin magmemorize for the LTs. I really learned a lot from his class. Minsan info overload pero these things are really worth knowing naman. A-able with max effort.more

Took him for SocSc 12 last sem & he wasn't as bad as I thought. He's really passionate with the subject & is kind if you strike up a conversation with him. He's also kind with grades, he gave us opportunities for bonus points and extra credit & gave everyone a perfect score on our last test. He puts up a schedule for the entire duration of the course and updates it religiously without notice so it would help to check it regularly.
There were also a lot of materials: about 3 readings (30-60 pages) & 2 lectures (45 minutes-1 hour) per module, then iba pa yung nakapost sa pages mismo. We had four tests originally, worth 60-70 points each, and he says the exact coverage in the synch session before opening the test. It was all objective & multiple choice, it gets easier per test since he follows a formula for all the questions. (The readings are also highlighted & he reiterates certain facts in the modules & slides, that's usually where he gets the questions.) He established the groups at the beginning of the sem and it's by friends, so make sure you pick good groupmates. There were two groupworks, a photoessay and an AVP. He also gave two individual essays. Both are pretty easy to score high on, as long as he sees the module integration & personal reflection.
He also has designated beadles per 4-5 people so communicating with him is challenging unless you message him yourself. Learned a lot from him talaga but the workload gets draining. All in all, it's A-able with effort because he tells you what he wants to see in your output.more

Sir’s class is very informative tho! … too informative 😭 you’ll get whiplash every time u see his slides with how wordy they are. we almost always had to stretch our classes up to the second bell with how much info he wants to cram in. Sir’s very nice tho and very passionate (he speaks so passionately that i got spat on once lmao no hard feelings tho)
he teaches well naman, it’s just very overwhelming so take him only if u can handle a heavy subject or if want a challengemore
