I’ve had Sir Roy for this subject last First Semester, so here’s my review.
Requirements
In all, we had five requirements: (1) an application of a reading to a text (video style), (2) a narrative analysis of a chosen text (video), (3) an outline needed for the final task (paper), (4) the final group task, and (5) the final synthesis paper. Others include 1 quiz, 1 minor presentation, discussion boards, and onsite recitation. Pretty chill requirements imo. What he wants for every requirement is quite unclear, so let me break it down for you:
(1) This requirement is straightforward naman.
(2) Choose an interesting text, and apply concepts from Modules 1 and 2 to the text. But, make it directed towards a thesis statement for your analysis to make sense. For instance, you may examine how the narrative elements contribute to persuading/entertaining the audience. Your call.
(3) This really is just an outline of what you plan to do for the final group project. So, a short 1-2 page paper. Choose a text that models the leadership concept you want. For example, what we did was how the movie ‘Himala’ portrayed populism. That’s the thesis statement—you now examine how the narrative elements and leadership theories (on the modules) contribute to the thesis statement. It doesn’t always have to be like this, you may explore other formats of dissecting the idea. More over, explain in your outline how will you present it creatively: a film? A video? A game? All of the above?
(4) Now you execute the final group task. Devote time for this, as it makes or breaks your grade imo.
(5) Make a creative way to narrate your experience of the course. Tip: make it personal rather than just repeating what’s on the module.

His standards can be over the roof. The highest he’ll grade is a 92, but it doesn’t mean it’s bad—it’s like him saying na “this is an A-level output.” It really is the way he grades.
Tip for the requirements: show him that you’ve used your creative juices for this requirement, and devoted some time. For my group’s case, I think I’ve passed my most OA requirement for a course in his class!! It required us to buy costumes, work on a script, film, and perform in front of the class—just for the final requirement! He said it was the presentation with the “highest production value” throughout all of his ENE class. I WAS SO FLATTERED
It was worth it though, he gave us the well sought-after 92 haha. Again, be as crazy as you can be with your ideas, he LOVES seeing something new!
Also, always capitalize on consultations, it can help you refine your requirements; he’ll also say if he doesn’t like your idea or the idea is too hard to be executed.
Overall, B+ to B-able with effort, A-able with OA effort

Very cool guy! He also know’s a lot of texts: books, movies, series, etc.—name it and he probably knows it! I’ve never felt the burden of entering his class bc he can yap about interesting and controversial things for 3 hours straight. He also interacts with his students, I’ve felt like we’re just tropas talking inside the classroom really. He’s a few of those professors who I find entertaining
But his discussions can be magulo at times, bc he really has to prolong his lectures given the short content of ENE as a course. Just refer to the Canvas modules if you want structure on your study of the course material or the requirements.

Had him for two classes already, agree that he is basically gonna be an ez B+ (some said only ez B) but hard A.
His workload was always light and he was always chill. He didn’t care about cuts but once when a lot of students cut since it was a halfday, he decided to have a quiz that day.
Got an A in one of those classes, probably cuz I made an extra effort having regular consultations about the papers, submitting requirements before the deadlines, and basically making sure he knew me particularly. Got a B+ in the other a year later and i’m sure it was cuz i didn’t try anymore.
Actually learning in his class is going to be dependent on you really wanting to learn the material and asking questions though. He is smart, enthusiastic, and political but spends a lot of time just telling funny or interesting stories or anecdotes rather than going in depth with the subject matter.more

Workload was light (some tasks had deadlines but he mentioned it was just like a placeholder lang). He’s considerate with deadlines too!!! (Just make sure to inform him)
Mostly groupworks but nothing too hard. For like presentations, he’s okay with u jus presenting w/o any ppts, etc. (my group did this) since he said presenting is about getting the audiences’ attention
Teaching style is like lecture with a mix of personal stories, experiences, etc. that are related naman to the topics.

Hii! Btw, I took him last school year but for another english class
In terms of workload, it was very light so I personally did not feel overwhelmed with the number of assessments. He does not usually give us homework outside of major assessments so kaya namannn
For major assessments, he gives the instructions weeks before so you’ll have plenty of time to work on it.
He’s also very approachable and his lectures are very fun, although he might sometimes go off-topic. He’s also very updated with current events so lectures can sometimes include them.
Warning lang (if you’re grade conscious) that his class is an easy B but hard A. Do your best to write in a unique way and please put a lot of thought into your papers (if you want an A) since he usually just gives B to B+ as a default for assessments. For our class, he didn’t give any lower than B.more

Took AGUSTIN, Roy Tristan B. last sem. Overall, a really chill class, especially since there were no onsite quizzes. He would just yap about different topics which he’s honestly really good at, so I can’t complain lol
Requirements are mostly by group but are simple enough to be done individually (or crammed as a group) except for one short final paper at the end which is indiv.
Take note that there are also some requirements on canvas—usually really simple ones like DBs or simple quizzes. It’s easy to forget about the stuff on Canvas because Sir’s so chill hahaha
I’d say he’s an easy B+, but it’s somewhat difficult to get an A because you really need to show creativity for him to get high scores.more

Hello! I’m also currently taking Sir Roy’s Enlit 12 class! I can confidently say that he’s one of my favorite profs! His lectures are always fun and light no matter how deep into the lesson you go in. He considers himself a geek, so he often relates to what the class talks about and even jokes around. Overall, his discussions and lectures are always so insightful. Also, he does not really mind if you cut his class and leaves it up to us to attend. But then again, due to his lectures being really fun, people in our class rarely cut as it is enjoyable.
Regarding the workload, the readings are not that heavy. In my case, there’s usually just one short story per module. He also only gives works that have something to do with us conducting a close reading on the literature provided in the module. There aren’t any in class seatworks, quizzes, or groupworks, as he expects us to be able to apply them in the close reading essay. He commonly gives B’s out for grades and rarely any A’s. However, he said if we want an A, we have to surprise him (presenting a unique perspective and connecting it with what he discusses in class).

- his lectures are definitely super duper fun :)) whenever we discuss texts, he connects it to larger and "real-world" themes and adds his own personal anecdotes ^^ so it can get a bit yap-y but these are always funny!
- if you are looking to get meaty lectures out of him tho, this is unfortunately a con of his! sometimes, he talks about personal stories more than the lecture/reading itself </3 so there have been instances wherein we forgo discussions of certain texts bc we run out of him haha
- if you're a nerd like him, you will def enjoy his class tho! he's very well-read, and you can talk to him about virtually anything!! i always enjoy his sessions bc of this <3
- biggest downside for me is his grading! he doesn't really give specific comments/feedback on the papers he gives (that's another thing... he only ever assigns paper analyses) so it can be hard to gauge what he expects from you ^^ so far, all of our papers are graded within B to B+ range, differing only by 1-2 pts!
- when i asked him how to get an A though, he says he might bump you up a letter grade if you participate in class!! but he doesn't really know us by name, even if we recite a lot TT so i do his (very optional) discussion boards instead to guarantee class participation (but i have yet to see if it will work hahaha will get back to this when i get my final grade!)more

Hi! Same thoughts as what everyone else is commenting here: he’s really a kind and entertaining prof! Sometimes it’ll seem like he’s talking about random topics unrelated to the lesson, or sometimes his readings are kind of odd in their themes or the style of writing, but they all spark very intelligent discussions and lead back to the main ideas of the course (and if not, they just become memorable moments haha). They really shape how you think and relate literature to the rest of the world (at least these are pts of growth I noticed in myself). Biggest downside is really the grading standards if you’re really set on getting straight As, though he will always be open to your thoughts and he never fails people or shuts down ideas. Your biggest learning opportunities and the funnest parts of the class are def in discussion, so don’t be afraid to participate :))more
