Hello! Enlit has been one of my fave subjects in college because I genuinely enjoyed the readings and the fiction film Sir Oca assigned to us hihi. He is extremely passionate about literature, and always offers interesting insights that you would never really think of esp when analyzing poems. He has a masters degree in American Literature from Brown University (if I'm not mistaken), and he even taught in UC Berkeley. ALSO, if you have ever read The Sympathizer, the author was Sir Oca's student!!! He actually made us read the novel for our Enlit finals (if he makes you do the same, start reading early cos LOL I legit read it the weekend before my finals and IT WAS NOT THE EASIEST READ like my eyes were painful,, and honestly you will appreciate it more if you give yourself time to take it in). Other than that, expect a lot of group presentations and papers. He gives few quizzes (I only remember 1-2) and these quizzes were OBJECTIVE AF. Don't worry if you get low because you can make bawi by reciting. He legit gives bonus points if he likes your answers when you recite. oH and pro tip: even if his tests are objective, feel free to reason out your answers with him HAHA because more often than not, he will give partial points. My class asked for consideration a lot. Don't even worry about your grades, just focus on learning and enjoying his lectures, siya na bahala !more

ohmygooood AHAHA you’re really gonna be suprised and ???? once you meet him!! He’s SO extra, but I honestly loved him. You’re in for a ride. He’s funny and very passionate about what he does—his expressions say it all!! He loves it when you get EXTRA and participate in his class, like even if it’s BS AHAH Use big words, and unleash your inner Shakespeare, or the lack of it, to get bonus points!!! He’ll talk a lot about his experiences as a professor, a student in Brown 🤩 and an American LibEraL 😂 He’s really chill, you don’t really need to read his readings since you guys will go through them. Despite that, try your best to do so though, you’ll learn to appreciate the beauty of literature and poetry with him. There are group work and reports too, but no need to worry about it. Once you learn how he is, you just need to show him what he’s looking for. Try not to get on his bad side. Don’t interrupt him when he’s in the moment of teaching, trust me, you don’t wanna go there. 🙃 Other than that, he’s great overall! Fun and chill class with unlimited cuts. 😉 Good luck! ❤️more

C ^^ will sometimes give free cuts bc wala lang he wants to & you can probably ask for one and he’d give it to you!! also, super chill finals — u have to read an entire graphic novel though but he also lets you bring the whole thing during the exam! u can also print his ppts n bring ur notes to finals too! he’s vv open to diff interpretations of the text & can be rly funny! but yeah since he teaches non-linearly lang, sometimes he can get sorta sidetracked and i found some lectures to get kinda dragging. but with him, i think it’s rly whatever u make out of it — if ur class is the type that gets rly engaged and voluntarily recites a lot then he’d super love that! don’t take advantage of how chill he can be though bc he can tell when the class isnt rly paying attention n i think he gets annoyed w that. also, workload is light & he gives a lot of time for deadlines n can also give extensions if needed!more

BEST ENLIT PROF EVER! Not only will you learn a lot, but he also grades high and he gives little workload. Try to recite a lot in his class! (This way, he’ll remember you in his class. In addition, some questions that you will answer through recitation will merit bonus points which will be added in your quizzes.) Also, as much as possible, don’t cut his class. He’s very lenient in cuts, but if you over abuse it, he’ll take notice of it. He’ll also tell fun and interesting stories which he will later connect it to the lesson! Lastly, when you present in class, other than making a great presentation, try to make your presentations fun so that he’ll enjoy it. So all in all, listen well in his class, don’t cut too much, try to recite a lot and be fun in presentations! If you do all of these, then you’ll probably at least get a B+ or an A.more

SIR OCA IS THE BEST!!!! super passionate and insightful about literature (makes you appreciate it), and he is one of the most chill profs i’ve had in terms of attendance and grading (he told us that he automatically assumes we’re all A students HAHA)! Make the most out of it bc personally it was one of my fave classes ive had so farmore

YES THE BEST he's never choosy w answers and doesn't seem to be looking for anything specific basta it's connected to the reading naman HAHAHAH also his synchronous classes were ones I actually enjoyed because his discussions were super lively!!! i have no idea what my grade is yet but the workload wasn't hassle at all (like 2-4 readings per module but only 1-2 requirements) also yes DEF GO FOR BEADLE would love to take his class again if given the chance to!!!more

OH MY GOD ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS (not only english) I EVER HAD He lights up when you share a new idea. The grade is immaterial (but yeah if you're that guy, one of the easier As I had). He makes you think about how everything is poetry, even outside his class.more

I absolutely agree. I had an amazing experience in Sir Oca's Lit14 class because he was so open to the various interpretations that could come from a poem. Although I'm not particularly sure about the way he might teach this new course, I know it will be an amazing experience. Just try not to abuse the unli cuts! It's worth it to go to his class even if it's unli cuts! Hahahamore

Very nice, insightful prof -- always has an approachable and happy-go-lucky air around him!! He'll allow you to call him by his nickname "Oca" as proof of how you guys are "equals" You won't be learning too much technical stuff around him, but just be tested on how much you can analyze readings and be creative :) He loves it when you go out of conventional methods to analyze things, so there's rarely a wrong answer hehe (just make sure you can support your argument!) when i was under him though, his voice, the air conditioning, and the pacing of the class (since he makes kwento often) make it so I fall asleep in his class 80% of the time :^) if you want a chill prof who grades mostly on recitation, class reports, and a few papers, go for him!! you can definitely get an A if you try :)more

He doesn’t believe in grades and gives unli cuts. His requirements are pretty light as well (mostly groupworks). He grades pretty high so it’s easy to get an A. He’s very passionate about the subject and is the type of prof who’s open to any interpretations when it comes to readings. Just take the class seriously and you’ll get an A.more

The most passionate prof I’ve had so far! He’s a really good writer and his classes are really fun and engaging! As long as you do your part, read what is required and show up to class, you’ll get a high grade! He has a LOT of good stories to tell! One of it being how one of his previous mentees wrote a Pullitzer Prize Novel ☺️ Tips: Be a beadle, sit in front, don’t talk during his class/ use your phone and you’re good to go!more

he’s the nicest!!! i enjoyed this class a lot because he doesn’t really impose a right or wrong answer for your analysis so as long as it makes sense he’ll grade well!!!! he doesn’t rly release grades nga lang (cos he makes submissions through email nd not canvas HAHA) buuut the workload is quite light naman nd from the grades i got parang his class is rly A-able:))) also GO FOR BEADLE the perks r amazing + he needs the help w some of the technical online things HAHA:(( but overall rly great prof, super knowledgeable and considerate!!! love dis guy ccmore
