took him for histo 11 and hes a great prof!! i got an A but it was with a lot of effort
as a prof he is super kind and his lectures offer such a unique and great perspective on rizal
there is an groupwork every session to be submitted within the period. this is usually just your answer to a question or two about the reading !! the groupings are sometimes random (countoff) or you can choose. make sure you read the readings beforehand and make sure your output is of quality because its not an easy 10/10. also, do not cut because missing one group discussion can make a difference. he grades on a 0-10 scale and he grades v fairly but to get perfect 10s on ur outputs its definitely hard earned !!!
also, in lieu of the group discussions, he does two random pop quizzes and its a specific question about one part of the text so make sure you really read it well 😅😅 i got a 1/10 once sa quiz HAHAHAH
the midterm is a synthesis question and you have to use all the lectures and readings in class to prove your argument/answer !! just make sure that all info that you use are actually correct and ur essay is logical and well structured. my question had an anchor reading so make sure you know the gist of all the readings by heart otherwise you wont hit the main point. this was like the make or break point for ur grade since this was graded on a 0-10 scale so even a minus one makes a big difference (e.g. yes you got an 8/10 which seems good minus 2 lang pero in reality when converted to percentage it takes a big hit bec its worth 25% of ur grade)
recit is also a big portion of ur grade (15% for us) !!! recite as much as you can even if ure not sure because he has a list and takes note of how many times u do
the final was more creative we were allowed to choose any secondary source of rizal, analyze it, and present it in any way we want !!! we didnt receive our grade anymore for this but im guessing he was rly lenient w this one cos i computed it and i needed a 9/10 atleast for an A in the course

had him for histo 12 this sem and he isn’t actually as bad as other comments make him out to be
just read in advance and understand at least the main ideas and arguments of each reading ^^ whether it’s for (1) in-class groupworks every session, (2) around 2-3 unannounced quizzes, and (3) the essay long test. final assessment is a group presentation on a chosen primary source which he’ll let you choose
as for his teaching style (which is consistent every onsite class): first half lecture followed by a graded groupwork on the assigned reading for the day. if may oras pa he’ll proceed to discuss a few stuff until the bell rings
for his assessments: he’s not technical w specific authors/details!! just understand the main ideas/messages each reading conveys :))
++ he returns all assessments fairly early so u’ll be able to monitor ur progress. though I’m not exactly sure if he’s responsive as I haven’t had the chance to raise concerns sa kanya
lastly, sir doesn’t curve but methinks A-able siya fs with extreme extreme effort!!more

vouch :: he is really kind and agree w anon806 he offers a fresh perspective on history because he likes to touch on a lot of nuances not often mentioned in typical highschool history classes.
took him again because really, all you have to do is listen to the lecture! his speech is clear, well paced, and very informative but i never found one session too "overloaded" bc he tackles the lessons in a chronological, story-like manner so i found his classes always wonderful bc it was just like tuning in on ur weekly episode of what happens to rizal. hahaha
i find that he grades well; yes he has pop quizzes and 2 essays but as long as you do your daily readings ( dont be intimidated, theyre interesting!! you get to read documents not usually publicly available) and listen, you'll find that your sem with him will be smooth!more

I had him for a different class (major histo class — global history) and I must say that I love him!! Mabigat ang readings but he's got a lot of interesting new insights to bring to the table and you'll hear perspectives you've never considered beforemore

Taking him now sa intersesh. Most of the time he gives us 2 readings one is a secondary source that he explains in class and 1 is a primary source that we will work on for a group discussion at the end of each meeting. He grades fairly naman and posts the grades the next day. If you’re grade conscious you have to be active in answering in recitations which are just important parts in the reading, its 15% of your grade. We had an one question essay exam thats 30% of our grade, he’ll give clues naman on what to study on. Lastly, you’ll have a final presentation where you will pick one topic from all his readings, find primary sources about it, and analyze it in the presentation. Overall, there are only 4 graded activities:

Essay exam-30%
Final presentation- 25%more

He gives you 7 cuts pero kahit unlicut yarn, you don't get to use any of them since there's a short essay / quiz almost every session about the reading. Medj mabigat workload niya huhu pero manageable naman. Easy B/B+, A-able with effort.
