Kindest and most lenient, mixed on teaching pace

Hi OP! I just had Atty. Gardon this sem and I have a few positive and negative criticisms about his teaching style. Pros 1. He is easily one of the kindest profs I had this semester. He is super lenient and understanding with deadlines. He understands the struggles of a student and understands that not everyone can learn and operate at the same level as others. In the middle of the semester, I even submitted a take-home output worth 100 points around 4 weeks late due to mental health concerns and he still accepted it with minor negligible deductions! He expressly told me that as long as you’re doing well and fine, you can just submit it before the semester ends. 2. His teaching methods are very straightforward. He can even cover multiple lessons in 1 sessions. Although my class was a 3 hr class which explains how he can cover that much, as long as you pay careful attention to class, you’ll have a grasp of the lesson more or less. 3. He curves like crazyy. During our midterms, the average for our class was 55/100, he understood it was difficult for a student with no financial background so he was lenient enough to curve our grade to the point where no one would fail. He also made it known to us that he will curve the grades just so that no one will fail, assure us that we’ll all do well. For our Finals, he even made us have a take-home and open notes LT just so that everyone can bump their grade! Bonus: He doesn’t do cold-calling which is a LIFE SAVER cuz most of my classes during this semester have profs who cold-call! He also regularly makes jokes in the class to ease the tension and to make sure the class is more relaxed during his session. Cons: 1. It was very evident that it was his first time teaching. He also started the semester Two weeks late because he was on a trip abroad at Japan during this time. He explained naman to the class though that Ateneo accepted his application to be a prof last minute so he had already booked his flight and was well on the way to Japan by the time he learned that he was accepted. 2. In correlation to his lack of preparation and experience early on, his lecture materials early on in the semester were very lackluster. It was very evident that he was not prepared to teach the class at that time (which is understandable all things considered). However, he was able to make up for it and created a lot of lecture slides and other review materials naman as the semester went on. 3. His general teaching style and methods are subpar in a way that he’s very fast paced and monotonous on his style of teaching. I think this is also due to his lack of experience lang din since I can see that he does exert a lot of effort in order to teach the class naman. However, if he speaks too fast, he does tell the class naman to tell him to slow down ifever. 4. Iirc, he is also a bar exam reviewer prof, he’s also handling his own law firm which he just started around a year ago since he also just recently passed the BAR exam. Lastly, he is also a student taking BS accountancy at his time of teaching us and has explicitly mentioned his desire to becoming a CPA lawyer. And because of all his other commitments, it’s very clear that teaching cannot be his sole priority and is often in his back-burner amongst all his other priorities, so you really have to spend some time yourself to learn the lessons in his class as he often makes his class asynchronous. Overall, he is a really kind and understanding prof that gives easy to medium difficulty outputs and LTs and curves well naman so you won’t get low. However, due to this being his first time teaching, he still has a long way to go before he can effectively teach a class. Hence, if you are okay with a little self study and want a chill class with medium effort with a SUPER nice prof that grades decently, I would definitely go to his class again! However, if you want a prof who’s good at lecturing and is always active at trying to nurture his class, maybe try a different prof. But don’t let that scare you as I believe he’s very much an A-able prof as long as you put a little bit of effort behind the scenes. Which is expected naman for a Finance class anyways xD Note: In terms of the Long Tests he makes, they honestly weren’t that hard if you prepared and studied well, they were relatively easy as well compared to some of the LTs of other financial profs out there. Sadyang hindi lang siya masyadong magaling magturo huhu AS OF NOW, pero I think this is something he can improve overtime as he gains more experience teaching.more

hes super nice and lenient but such a bad prof 😭 u really have to self study to pass, and try to consult a lot, hes really good when you have specific questions u want to ask but he is really bad at teaching He curves and hes really really nice and friendly and lenient so i dont wanna hate on him but hes just such a bad prof 😭😭 he would be great as a thesis advisor or like a coach but as a professor its just not itmore
