hi! took ricky for my comm 31 previously, and i would not recommend him as a prof. sure, he does help open your eyes to how the real advertising world works and by the end of the sem, he said you would have decided if you want to stick with advertising (I didn’t lol 🤣), but taking his class made me so burnt out that in the end, it wasn’t worth it at all. his classes would always have weekly deadlines, and he’s very very strict with meeting these deadlines since it’s (1) training for ad (2) you will be presenting these the day of, so if you don’t have a presentation, that’s your loss. what’s more, you would be presenting something he hadn’t taught prior so it’s very self-study heavy, which is crazy bc there’s no readings in the class so you can’t figure out where to look. he will just give u instructions and it’s up to you on how to interpret it. what was frustrating was that he wouldn’t grade them until the very end of the sem, so you hardly know your standing until the grade release— which he also posted late btw. he’s also not an easy a, and frankly, he doesn’t care if you’re a scholar or someone who wants to keep their qpi up, he will treat you unfairly. speaking of unfair treatment, this is purely observation based so take it with a grain of salt, but sir ricky would show favoritism to certain ppl. he would be harsh to one side of the class but id notice he becomes nicer with his “favorites”. anyways, if you can, always have a guy message him bc from observation he somehow responds better to them than the girls. lol. if you have no other choice but him, here’s some tips! > make sure to be organized and that your points are all connected. minimize loopholes such as going overboard with ideas bc the simpler the better. he LOVES conciseness > sharpen your presentation skills bc this helped me get an edge. if possible, memorize your spiels and don’t use scripts while presenting. feign confidence if you have to! > for GROUP TASKS, make sure to delegate early and figure out what roles suit members best. you can overlap roles internally but play to ur group’s strengths > don’t argue with him bc it’s a losing game tbh, just take his comments and try incorporating them as much as possible i got a good grade in his class at the cost of my mental sanity tbh. his standards are crazy high you have to REALLY impress him to get a decent grade. still won’t recommend him though unless you want to reaaally test urself with your qpi on the line. good luck though if ur taking him!more
