Official record is a long-serving Ateneo History assistant professor with a Philippine Studies doctorate and a documented research line in childhood, colonial education, and heritage. The only kept student voice likes her and still flags unstructured lectures, no-gadget notes, heavy reading/exam coverage, and strict marks toward a B+. That is not enough to lean_take or lean_avoid. she’s an amazing prof & super goated no joke , but grading-wise 🫡 might end up with a C+ if i’m lucky by the end of this semester
assessments: she only gives 4 assessments (2 group projects , 2 long quizzes) to make up your grades and her standards are really high (rightfully so), so you have to work extra hard for all of these projects (and pick good groupmates!!!!). she’s also super open to consulting (even during weird working hours) so take advantage of that because she really appreciates when you ask and helps you get back on track (wish i did this more bc it really would have helped with the papers). cant stress enough that these assessments are challenging (and very humbling on my end 😭), so i sometimes cant predict my grade anymore when im doing them
lectures: the tita-vibes rumors ive heard are true! she so clearly loves what she does when she’s teaching and i learned a lot of things from her. she talks about the lessons in a way na parang nagkukuwento siya so theyre super engaging because her excitement and passion is super contagious in her lessons. + we also though she was SUPER funny & witty , she jokes sometimes w students in her class but dont take it to heart! loves to banter. love her lectures its definitely a favorite of mine and my blockmates
my goals grade-wise are experience > grades, so im super grateful to be in her class regardless of the turnout. you’ll learn a lot from her & enjoy even more if you dont tie your feelings to your letter grade! (unless you get a hang of her standards then thats great!) have fun 💋more

not sure if itll be the same for tests but iirc, modified t or f for part 1 then essay in part 2. it’s honestly quite tricky so read carefully. she’s particular about answers in essays, and sometimes she’s looking for certain things talaga. for papers, key is to consult! make sure you structure your ideas properly and have good evidences.
I LOVED HER TEACHING STYLE THOUGH. summary/ highlights siya ng reading, but she kwentos it like its chika HAHAHAH her slides aren’t ma-words usually, but i suggest writing what shes lecturing, esp if you can synthesize it in your own words. i noticed that my notes sounded like chika also LOL
do your readings pa rin tho! some test questions may include things from the reading but not from the lectures. baka may bonus point rin diyan if you can cite a specific source from your readings.
note though that sometimes she calls random to read or recite, pero pang participation points mo na yun
overall, are there other profs that are also fun but would give you a higher score? yeah probably! but if you got her, it’s not bad. even though C+ yung nakuha ko, i still really enjoyed and had fun. i miss her aksh! just make peace with not getting an A or B+ HAHAHAH (WELL ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE BUT YK ITS DEFO A CHALLENGE)more

one of fav profs ever sobrang goated !! very fun ng discussions, parang chismisan lang w substance hahahaha. u're guaranteed to really learn a lot from her and di ka mabobore bc super engaging niya magturo as in !! attending her lectures was something i genuinely looked forward to every time < 3
medyo strict nga lang sa grading. apat lang assessments so make sure to do well in each one cuz malaking hatak sa grade if ibagsak/mababa grade mo sa kahit isa lang. also, particular siya sa pag grade ng papers so need mo talaga ng critical approach sa pag analyze ng materials na ibibigay niya.
her tests are usually a combination of modified true or false and essay. okay naman provided that u really listen to her lectures kasi dun madalas siya kumukuha ng mga tanong. tbh i didnt read any of her assigned readings but i always took down notes and listened to her discussions so i still managed to pass her tests. personally got a B+ in her class cuz medyo mababa unang group paper namin.
overall, id say youre in VERY good hands !!!! miss habana is super awesome and fun that my histo class with her remains one of my all-time favorites in ateneo 💗 good luck !!!!more

Workload is very manageable with both indiv and group reqs. Also be sure to participate in class and discussion boards on Canvas. Like Hans said, parang siyang tita kung magkuwento but you can tell she’s passionate about what she teaches. She grades fairly high for as long as you exhibit understanding of the lessons by effectively being able to relate them to one another.more

Her requirements are about four to five only and most are by group so be sure to have a solid group and to contribute and participate in class discussion (if may component) and group works. She was my prof during 2023 and she's AWSOME. Every class session was so fun and you learn A LOT. There's a lot of readings, but I felt all the readings were informative. For some of the readings there are groupwork for it. She pays a lot of attention to detail on your group outputs so that's something to watch out for. Be detailed and nuanced. Another thing to watch out for are the quizzes which tend to be modified true or false stuff, multiple choice and short essay. They can be tricky but it's not too bad. Overall like what others have said, while it can tricky, but her class is worth taking. With effort, it's definitly B able and even A able.more

The goat for HISTO. It feels like someone sharing her interests and a Tita talk rather than a lecture. We were told about Rizal’s multiple love lives during one lecture (For ref: was under her last year.)
In grading though you will have to work really hard since the average is a C+. But honestly the learnings and lectures were so fun that the low C+ didn’t really hurt that muchmore

hiii if i recall correctly we had 2 long tests and they were objective questions! I barely passed the first one so I needed to bawi on the second one. I think you really have to listen in class (tbh here classes are not even boring because she makes it seem like chika time lang) because most of the info cannot be found on her slides.
Also pro tip put extra effort in the group works and make sure to properly cite!

Love her! Coming to class doesn’t feel like class at all tbh, it’s like a chill kwentuhan/chikahan sesh hehe. I learned so much about parts of ph history left uncovered, and she really makes sure that you get the whole perspective of the emergence of the Philippine nation and not just the years leading up to the revolution. I believe precolonial life lessons took longer than the Rizal parts. We had topics on the economy, social life, and also women! It’s very interesting, and I assure you I have never seen that many students so enthusiastic and engaged while listening! The downside however is she only gives 4 assessments, meaning it’s hard to up your grade. Papers are challenging, because she’s specific on what she wants and how it is written. I didn’t get a B+ or A pero I don’t care honestly because I love this class so much haha good luck and make sure to read ALL the readings as she does randomly call 😅more
