Good prof; journals plus individual and group reports

Hi! I beadled for her last semester. She’s a very good prof 😀 Her requirements include: - Pre-lecture quizzes - Recitation (I think this isn’t too big a part of your grade but she still encourages people to recite a lot and calls those who she thinks hasn’t participated—she also has group discussions which r very interesting) - Journals for each module - Individual Report about ANYTHING basta you’re able to relate it to the module - Group Report (honestly for me this was the most taxing one… I am super bad at Philo and you’re supposed to discuss the following module’s ethical theory) Each module goes like this: 1. Pre-lecture quiz 2. Group Report about the topic 3. Ma’am discusses examples + elaborates on some concepts 4. Random activity (ex. One time we did like word map / flowchart) 5. Journal She doesn’t really do PowerPoints if I remember correctly so I advise not cutting too much if you want to put stuff in your papers. She has a few discussion boards on Canvas as well. Her papers are an easy B+ with mid effort and if you consult + add personal experience’s that’s a guaranteed A. I did so bad in my quizzes (I think around 5/10 average) but was able to pull through with an A at the end. So highly suggest really trying your best and consulting for the paper, and adding personal anecdotes / opinions towards ethical theories in the journal. She doesn’t like reading those who simply put “I learned that…” However, if she suggests not having classes at Bellarmine, please find a different room ASAP and try to reserve it in advance 😭 I lost count of how many times our class started like 30 minutes latemore

jokes aside ma'am has really high standards (she told us she could count the number of people she gave an A in her previous classes on one hand 💀) - readings were manageable, but when i needed more sources to understand certain concepts i'd go to youtube and find crash course/explainers (esp this person named matthew lampert—saved my life 😭) - loved how we could choose between an essay/written/oral exam for our midterms, so choose which one aligns w ur strengths (but my grade was 😵💫 so yeah.. illusion of free choice HAHA) - her instructions could be unclear at times, tho what we had was an onsite class we had some sessions online + async activities - make sure you read the material, i swear. like many other profs, she could tell if you're spewing bs 💀 your analyses need rigor AND substance as well. if you really want an A, schedule consultations with her, reference your work with credible sources outside the provided learning material, sell your soul, do whatever it takes! take her if you aren't grade conscious, but as a grade conscious person, i'd say the concepts have been drilled into my mind to this day bc of how much effort i had to put out, whew.more

Took him last sem and he has around 4-5 major reqs in total. The rest are optional naman (to bump your grades). He's quite boring and speaks mostly in Tagalog. Requirements are manageable naman as long as you read (like basahin mo talaga and not summarize them using AI) AND choose the questions wisely. All of his reqs have prompts naman and he'll let you choose which one to answer. Try to score decently in individual reqs since there's one group paper + vid req. Tip lang siguro is to copy everything he says verbatim and use them in your reqs. That's a guaranteed 3.5 minimum. The rest is how you personalize and communicate your "story" for the more personal question/reflection Good luck! Got a B+ with decent effortmore

In terms of grading, she grades fairly high naman in my experience. She doesn’t really care what my stance was as long as my arguments made sense and are applied with concepts tackled in class. I’d say in most of my requirements I got 85-90%, but that’s with slightly above average effort on my end.more

hello sis HAHAH she grades fair!! For my case, bestie nya prof ko from OB so I matched the standards lang. My tip would be to always throughly explain the concept, relate it to yourself, relate it to society/contempt issue, and don’t be afraid to challenge what she teaches or offer new perspectives. She’ll give you the grade that you deserve talaga and the feedback justifies whatever mark she places. Also, don’t be afraid to consult! She’s really approachable and will help refine your paper/thoughts.more

hi,! i had her last sem for philo 13. i left a review of her for philo 12 in another thread, and most of what i said there still applies. notably, she changed up some requirements last sem to counter some students using AI. she had us make handwritten journals—one entry for each module, no specific format or word count (kahit nasa binder nb nga lang) as long as you put thought into your reflections! she doesn’t like bullet points summarizing the lesson; write in paragraph form and add personal insights, and you’re good! she gives perfect scores for the journals 😄 and is only more meticulous for the formal paper requirement, where you need to cite sources and back up your arguments with readings/research. light to manageable workload (if you don’t mind handwriting a bit 😆). A-able if you’re genuine about your insights! she’s sweet and remembers people hehe. would take her again for a core course. i hope you have a good time if you end up taking her class!more

agreee! + her onsite class sessions r really group activity focused and u really have to do the readings before cos she doesn’t discuss before throwing u into them AHSJAJA fun naman cos the class is interactive but i also spent a lot of the sem not knowing if i actually understood the material correctly cos she doesn’t discuss a lot talaga T___T she doesn’t have many reqs but u rly need to put in the work to get a good grade, and i think participating and talking in class rly helps!!! and dont worry abt being late to her 8am class cos it’ll always start at 8:20 XDmore

Hallo hallo had her for a similar subj, ethics (philo 13)!!!She’s a nice lady naman, doesnt count lates, and if you have concerns she is very quick to respond. If dress code concerns u dw shes super chill, she doesnt care at all (i wore shorts a lot in class ahihihi)Grading wise she is ok, she relies on recit and group discussion a lot lang so if that is an issue for you take note of that nalang when you enlist. Pero is generally nice in terms of these and gives you bonus tips pa to improve your arguments. Has some papers but tbh sometimes the criteria for these were kinda weird (i even did paconsult w her one time and still got an ave score huhu). Theres a solo report pa but she is super nice with this as long as you paeffort. In general, she likes lots of details most esp in relation to the readings and concepts, but there are times that her criteria just misses minsan and ydk why.B+ able for sure but a able with lots of effort! And tip for the solo report: do stuff related to trending issues you will get an A for sure HAHAHAHAmore

had her last sem for philo 12! take her if you want light workload, pretty easy B+/A. pros: - no required orals - quizzes are short, objective, and manageable as long as you read the readings - you have the freedom to write about pretty much anything for papers as long as you’re able to apply the lessons however, the biggest downside was her lack of communication :(( she never replied to indiv emails and replied very slowly to our beadle (only through text). if you have an urgent concern, best to raise it during onsite sessions. she also didn’t seem to have the hang of canvas. we had many complications with submission portals—no online submissions allowed, no details posted even if she said she would. there were also times when she’d *think* she made an announcement when she really didn’t (e.g., “did you bring x item?” when we weren’t informed). we just felt really in the dark most of the time huhu which caused unnecessary stress imo :”) but she’s nice! def a prof to consider if your majors / other subjs have heavy reqsmore

Hello! I took Ma’am last semester onsite for Philo 13 and was actually her beadle! Shes very nice in general + her requirements usually consist of 1 group work per module, 1 paper every 2-3 modules, tas recitation !!! Cons to her are that she doesn’t usually reply through email or canvas :(( if she does it’s very delayed, so its best to have your beadle get her number and text her nalang + she arrives late to class half the time if your class is at 8am lol + we probably had single digit discussion days so if you really want to learn the subject matter there’s probably better options out there depending on how much you really care for philo… Overall shes very nice + take her if you dont want to stress out about philo 😃more

Had her on-site and I’m glad i took her for Philo 13 because she explains ethics really well and had a manageable workload and interesting readings. For midterms, she gave her students the option to write a paper, take a test, or have an oral exam (most philo profs only gave orals). For finals, she didn’t hold orals but gave us more options for our paper. One of them was a movie review and I ended up writing about the ethics of WandaVision which she found to be interesting. She’s overall very approachable, understanding, and fair in grading. I highly suggest you take her if you really want to learn about ethics while also not having to worry too much about the subject.more
