Hard A but survivable naman Teaching: good at teaching! You’ll definitely learn a lot, he gives a lot of examples in a storytelling type of way (it gets personal sometimes like he would add themes of family and mental health that emotionally hits hard sometimes but that’s makes it easier to remember the concepts better). - He’s kind but may “gago” side rin siya with the jokes he cracks in class WAHAHA. - strict with rules. Don’t sleep in class or talk to your seatmate as u might get kicked out. No gadgets in class but he sometimes allows them when the reading is too long. Readings: some short some long…some very long.. he made us read “silence” which is a novel and is like 100+ pages long 😭 so i suggest you advance read that asap as u’ll only have shallow answers if u just watch the movie ahA He has videos in canvas that guide you to reading the readings and they r vv comprehensible so you can actually just rely on that instead of wasting time to understand the long readings with deep ass english 😭 Assessments: we had surprise quizzes but over time it gets easy to see the pattern on when he’ll give it. Easy to perfect the quizzes since it’s essay type and the answers are just in the canvas modules and/or reading. We also had long exams which is just an extended version of the quiz. It’s 1-2 questions that are essay type and u have the whole period to write your answer so study hard for this since it’s kind of pressuring to write on the spot in filipino and recalling all the concepts! He has high standards with this one so i suggest looking at his rubrics if u wna know what he’s expecting and just be careful with your filipino grammar and try to be creative! We also had orals which is the finals but i haven’t taken it yet but it’s a thesis statement type. Grading: it’s 4,3,2,1 but he can give out partial points during the LTs (3.5,2.5, etc) personally don’t understand it sometimes 😭 i get 4s in the quizzes but for LTs most average a C+ (including me)😭 so im convinced u have to be a filipino god or actually spout some deep philosophical statements to just get a B+ or A. participation or recitation is not graded naman but he’s open to all questions naman ! I would say he’s B-able with effort na 😭 but maybe it’s because im kind of bad at filipino huhu but as long as you study the canvas and read the readings you definitely won’t fail !!! i'm back anon! here's my honest review:)) teaching: legendary. honestly would go down as one of (if not the) the best profs i've had so far. he posts lectures on canvas and a few short modules as well, but his onsite classes remain superior for me. he discusses insights that have pushed me to think of really deep philosophical thoughts about myself. honestly don't know how he does it, my friends and i often joke about how he is "God" himself lolol recit: doesn't really cold call unless he knows that you're not paying attention class policies: within reason but i personally think he can be more lenient when it comes to going out to the cr / water fountain lolll. i think his no gadget policy really helped the class focus on his discussions, took us almost the whole semester to realize this tho hahah grading: tbh don't take if you're bad in tagalog bc i'd say i'm good at it but still struggled a lot esp bc his assessments and discussions are all in tagalog and he includes grammar in grading 🥲 he's very particular also when grading quizzes and other assessments and even tho they're (almost) all essay, i think it's objective bc he looks for certain concepts and is really keen on looking at how you apply the concepts to your life. workload: 8 quizzes (all surprise), 2 long exams, 1 oral exam (10 thesis statements) overall: life-changing! would take him again even if my grades were lower bc i think he's worth it and i think all the other philo subjects i'll take would be a downer compared to this ps. took this subject with other subjects who were relatively lighter than my previous semesters so there's that!more

Yes! I originally didn’t enlist in his class when I was batch 1 last sem, but then I delisted from my original class when it was free for all na (4pm-onwards) and I still got a slot (my friend did this too)more

agree with everything has listed ^ Sir Aurelio is one of the best profs I’ve ever taken tbh, as someone once described him before, he’s like a legendary prof without the terror. Not only are his teachings rich, but he is also really kind and values his students thoughts a lot After 4 years in ADMU, he is easily one of my top 5 profs:> Edit: it’s also worth mentioning that I took his class in Filipino, and although the experience of taking PHILO in Filipino was really difficult, Sir Aurelio made it worth it, and he really manages to explain his thoughts and teachings so well in Filipino as well 😊take him if you can!more

hindi naman masyado. Pero kasi surprise short quiz siya lagi. In this case, huwag ka mag-absent kasi baka mamaya, kung kelan ka nag-absent, tsaka siya nagpaquiz. And for example 12 or 15 pages yung readings niyo for that session, I suggest basahin mo lahat. Don't leave any crumbs kasi baka mamaya yun pa yung itanong niya. Plus, he is very particular sa answer. Need mabanggit yung hinahanap niya kasi you'll not be able to get a perfect score kahit na ka-thought ng sagot mo yung mismong answer. For Mahabang Pagsusulit, bet ni sir na creative ka. Number 1 tip, gumawa ka ng outline and use subtitle (make it creative) sa buong sanaysay. Sobrang laking hatak sa grade ko nung Mahabang Pagsusulit and Orals. Got B but I feel like A is possible kung hindi lang nag-flop sa maikling pagsusulit HAHAHAmore

If u really want to learnn, take himmm!! we had surprise quizzes (10 na usually binibigay niya kada start ng lesson and bago mag end). We have two written exams and 1 oral exam. For grading, fair naman pero high standards talaga. Very particular with grammar din so need na strong foundation sa Filipino.more

Hello, sorry for the late reply on this! Iirc, we had 5 required readings (1 per module) that served to guide our lessons throughout the sem (sir managed to somehow connect ALL of them in ways that actually made sense which I thought was cool). In addition to this, we had a bunch of discussion boards spread throughout the modules that were mostly related to the video lectures (usually around 10 to 30 mins each) posted on Canvas. Sir does indicate though which ones are required to be answered and which ones were just to facilitate discussion among the class. Along with these, we also had an individual paper for midterms and a group paper for finals (we were allowed to group ourselves iirc). Sir wasn't strict with us completely speaking in Filipino but he did encourage us to give our best in doing so (we had a bunch of Taglish moments in class, even from sir). For writing, however, we were required to write in Filipino AS MUCH AS WE CAN and only resort to English words/terms if we hit a dead end na. For context, I initially dreaded going into his class because I wasn't/am not good at writing papers/answers in Filipino but I think I did okay naman despite that. Lastly, not sure if sir's batch 2-able since I got him when I was batch 1 but I do hope so since the experience of getting him as a prof is something I'd recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.more

tips na lang sa reqs niya HASFHAH (e.g., discussion boards and reflection papers) 1. always put your experiences and personal kemerlu at the center sa outputs !! while incorporating yung mga insights sa readings/module 2. allot enough time planning your reflection papers kasi super bigat niya sa grade and like yung sinabi above depth over breadth !! since sir is usually trying to find kung gaano kalalim yung reflection mo vis a vis sa modules and experiences 3. be very careful sa technical writing (e.g., grammar, syntax, organization, etc.) since he also grades that din 4. be precise sa mga points mo !! gusto niya ng straight to the point and ayaw niya yung paligoy-ligoy sa paper 5. overall A-able naman hehemore

I was a beadle for him in PHILO 12 (ONLINE) so idk how he does PHILO 13 but overall sir's a very understanding, kind, and patient prof! Very insightful and open to all beliefs and opinions. You'll never feel like he's judging you for any of them and, in fact, he constantly encouraged us to share them. Very easy to communicate with as well and often checked in if we were doing alright. His Canvas modules are probably the most organized I've ever seen and his voice sounds like a comforting audiobook narrator's. His class was also one of the very few classes I've had where I genuinely liked participating and reciting. I can't speak for anyone else in my class but personally, what he taught us throughout that semester positively changed a lot on how I viewed life, love, and my beliefs. It was probably the first time a prof's teaching led me to reevaluate stuff in my life that much and I am forever thankful to him for it. Go get sir Michael if you can.more

What the others said. There will be difficult readings, but nothing out of the ordinary, really. It's pretty much like any other Philo class. But I wouldn't worry too much about them (provided you do read them) because he has a knack for explaining difficult concepts. Not an easy A prof but definitely, definitely worth it. Learning a lot—which you surely will—and becoming a more "mature" thinker because of his lectures is all the satisfaction you'll need in the end.more

I had him for ph101 before so I cant say how he is online. I imagine his discussions are roughly the same content wise though, but I cant add anything more pertinent than what the previous comments have mentioned tbh. I just wanna mention that he uses some filipino terms that seem important (and they are) but he can deduct points in papers if you use them incorrectly. And I mean you have to use them exactly as he understands it because I could never figure out how he wanted the term use (e.g. "marupok na asal" or fragile values). He's B to B+, almost impossible A. But I can tell you its all worth it if you want the life changing philosophy that ateneo promised before. When i was enlisting, they used to say hes contender/borderline legendary for his insights and wisdom!! Personally, his class is the reason I ran for soh rep and in my sophomore year (later in 2nd sem pa though) too HAHAmore

As with any PHILO class, devote time to read the readings so that you can listen more intently to the lectures (which are some of the best I’ve had in my entire stay in LS).more

B+/A with a whole lotta effort here's the thing, his "surprise" quizzes arent really a surprise most of the time. Basta once he gives new readings/assignments expect that there's a quiz coming. You'll figure out the patters eventually for sure. His quizzes are 5 points lang and sometimes it's essay type and sometimes it's a 1-5 identification depending on the reading. He made us read the book Silence by Shusaku Endo the entire sem, giving us the ideal pacing na rin. I did NOT read a single page of the book but I watched the movie starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, and Liam Neeson (crazy cast lol) and I survived. Anyways, if this is what you want to hear, i got perfect scores on every quiz except one. He canceled the lowest score at the end of the sem and gave us a bonus 5-pt quiz so i ended with a 100% for the quizzes part. The real problem here are the long tests. It's insanely strict in grading but you'll survive if you read every coverage enough. First LT was about the movie and I think I got the highest score in our class even though I didn't read it since I watched it lang. You'll figure him out once youre there. As someone who's also extremely grade conscious, it was the most insane B+ I ever received. I advise lang talaga to enjoy his class and live in the moment. I guarantee you you'll be a different person after that. He changed my life and it was the best Philo class (or class in general) that i had in ADMU.more

I took Sir Aurelio's PHILO 12 class last school year during 1st Semester. Rather than tackling who's easier to pass, I would advocate for which professor would provide the richest experience, while also balancing it with realistic expectations. Of course, I have my bias since Sir Aurelio was my PHILO 12 professor — I would recommend taking him over the professors you listed. His class is in Filipino, and his requirements are: 8 – 10 surprise quizzes, 2 written long tests, and a final oral exam. His class is just a breeze as long as you read the reading materials, but the kicker here is our class discussions: I learned a lot from his classes. It made me change how I view faith, especially as an Agnostic, and while his classes didn't change my religious view, it made me refine my Agnosticism and take on religion as a nuanced subject. So yeah, take Sir Aurelio as your PHILO 12 prof! He may be intimidating, but he is a great professor. Just don't make him mad and always come to class on time or else you will be marked as late (half cut) and miss the quiz. Good luck!more

100/10 HAHA hello!! took sir onsite 2nd sem of 2022-23. feel free to pm for more insights~ - ang ganda ganda ng canvas niya at sobrang organized. though onsite, the modules/lec videos are there to help guide you esp when the readings are difficult - not strict w/ using filipino in recit but he begs u to not be conyo and at least try 😆 he probes you a bit if you can't find the word but in the encouraging way - dw, the no gadgets during class isn't hassle at all because his pacing is easy to follow so you won't struggle with notes if that's your concern - all requirements are only over 4. he teaches you how to compute your grade too if that's something you consider - idk sir is just really cool and makes the class interesting. i agree that his standards are quite high but not unreasonable, just in the way that pushes you to do your best. he's also wholesome and remembers his students :") makes you feel appreciated requirements: - "surprise" reading quizzes every time there's a new reading (you get a feel for it eventually or u can ask the other sections). objective essay, so just say what the reading said - canvas assignments: it varies but i remember we had a few indiv/group discussion boards and a short video - midterm paper: you choose a text from a list he provides and you have to relate it to the lessons in modules 1-4 (i think). he gives guide questions too - final oral exam: you draw a thesis statement and explain it to him. i think we had 10 mins? iirc they're given towards the end of the semmore

goated prof! his class (philo 12), for me, is still the most memorable class I've ever had in my stay. I genuinely learned a lot from his class, and he really made me love philo so much. I even emailed him 2 years after I took his class to ask about something philo related and he was more than happy to reply HAHA. Very smart, and very friendly prof. Very hard to get an A, B+ is attainable if you're good at Filipino and philo. Highly recommend him still!more

love sir sm!! sir helps u out if di ka magaling mag tagalog (but really helpful if u can express urself well in Filipino talaga since may Midterm paper and Final Orals) Nagpapaquiz for every reading iirc (not every session tho) which means you would have to read talaga the assigned readings. No gadgets during class. (TRUST ME U WONT NEED IT). Print readings except for the last one na super haba. Mabait and approachable if you have questions:) Beadle if you can (enjoyed it sm and felt so appreciated) 🫶🏻 I personally think he’s A-able with effort but definitely B+ -able 🩷 cc: (ik u guys loved him too)more
