Take him for PHILO 12 if you want a passionate discussion-heavy philosophy-of-religion class and can sustain weekly note review, cold-call repetitio, and oral exams. Prefer him when your semester load has room and you learn by speaking/reading rather than slide decks. Lean away (or go eyes-open) if you need tidy Canvas/PPT structure, hate oral cold-calls, or are already overloaded — and treat DLQ reviews as still thin.

Took Sir Wilzel: I think I got a B or B+ in his class, but I think he's A with effort (mahina lang ako sa PHILO lol). If you're looking for a PHILO class that you just want to cruise in (dont do pls lol), then maybe look for other profs. But I took his class in a relatively heavy sem, and I managed. - He does repetitio. You have 2 opportunities to be called during the semester (flashcard) and will be asked about the topic you discussed last class (no notes or call a friend). The questions vary, but if you took note of what happened/asked a friend what happened last class, you'll be fine. Be nice to him tho because he decides what question you'll get.
- At the beginning of the semester, he provides a list of all the thesis questions. During quizzes, he'll announce beforehand which reading he'll quiz you on and it's a roll of the dice on which thesis the reading will be asked about. If you prepare all your answers based on the thesis questions, you should be fine.
- He really appreciates if you talk during class. You don't need to talk ALL the time, but make sure to add input/answer at least once in 1-2 classes. Class participation is important.
- I really liked this class because there's no pressure to be super religious/faithful. It's all about academic discussion about faith. There'll be classes where you'll question what you believe, there's some where you'll restore your faith in it. Enlist in this class if you're open to discussions about religion.
- I enjoyed the orals because I got the thesis I wanted lol. He's also nice naman during the orals, he won't make you feel scared. He'll ask questions to guide you or expand what you know. - It's really just quizzes, repetitio, and orals. Straightforward lang ang requirements. I remember we got bonuses because he forgot to return some quizzes on time lol. If you ace his syllabus quiz on the first day, he will let you waive your lowest repetitio grade and replace it with the score you got. - You can talk to him after class and he's open to consultations I believe
- Ngl even if I didn't get an A, I would say his class was one of those classes that changed my life <3 good luckmore

- repetitio: this is recitation about the past lecture. sir picks 3-5 students & asks them a question about the previous lecture
- dbs: kapag asynch session, he uploads a db about a reading / movie

took him onsite in 2019 lol but if ever it's still applicable:
- handwritten notes only, no laptop allowed
- repetitio: 3 students chosen for graded recitation based on the previous lecture - don't be absent if you haven't be called yet hahaha
- prelectio: quizzes based on the given reading/s, but the questions are given in advance! he'll pick a random q for the actual quiz so come prepared for all regardless, or try to apply the same idea to the different questions hehe
- iirc we had 2 reflection papers, 1 midterm exam (written), and ofc the philo oral with randomized thesis statements (which are given in advance dw!)
- sir's very nice!! he really really hammers down the idea of each reading and its concepts so really take notes!!! also v understanding lol i had no voice during my orals and he let me whisper and take my time HAHAHA plus he was rly understanding during that weird period when covid was still new and we were semi-online. great guy lol
- tldr: take down notes religiously and apply the concepts to your outputs and you'll be fine! 🫡🤍more

SUPER LOVE SIR ADRIATICO!!!!!! You can tell from the way he teaches that he’s very passionate about philosophy. He knows what he’s teaching. Workload is heavy, not gonna lie, but they’re all very helpful. It’s like 85-90% readings LMAO and your quizzes (which have a really big impact on your grade) will be based from those so you really have to read the readings assigned and tbh you have to read them or else you wouldn’t understand the class din. And then the reflection papers then the orals and finals. He’s very considerate din when it comes to his students, I always appreciated his effort of vibing with us. BIG BONUS DIN PALA IF YOU WATCH MOVIES LIKE the Before trilogy or series like the Good Place. One of the many good things i like about him is how he’d relate philosophical concepts to scenes in pop culture or events in our society.
Class is B+/B-able.
I’ve always heard of how ateneo philo is the most iconic fortes our school has and I got to understand why bcos of Sir Adriatico!

he doesnt curve i think LOL i suggest to not take him if ur load is heavy for the sem. due to the nature of repetitio (recitation based on past lectures) i would spend at least 5 hours every week studying my notes.
the main basis of our grades was orals. once ur done talking he'll ask questions to gauge ur understanding sa topic so its not enough to memorize a script. sometimes if u say smth off he might interupt u n ask u about it
for our section, it was really helpful to have a group docs for quizzes n orals it helped us survive LOL
sir wilzel is really passionate about what he teaches tho the stuff he taught is ingrained in my brainmore

However, he kept canceling/rescheduling classes this sem, and gave out conflicting announcements via beadles every now and then which rendered the syllabus stated schedule useless . Didn't help that he returned the quiz scores and feedback (only got one back before the end of the sem) super late, so you didn't have any idea on how to better shape your answers/ approach for his quizzes. He kept promising to fix or send out the results and even promised to make one perfect if he didn't fix it, but he still never did any of the two actions (fix it or auto perfect the quiz). Lastly, our class was so delayed that we received the midterms instructions a bit before Holy Week, and had to submit it a few days after HW. Hope he goes back to being the A-able prof described in this thread. 🥹more

hello! in my class we didn’t have orals, but heard from friends na the next quarter he added a video recorded oral exam — not sure lang if he kept this for the sem system:0 but everything in his class is indiv! had around 3-4 indiv papers the whole class and the rest are DBsmore

A comment above mine already went into good detail about the specific things that happen in his class; tldr - they’re graded recitation, quizzes, reflection papers, and oral finals
The requirements might seem like a lot, but he is very fair with grading them, and can be easily A’d if you understood the previous lesson (no need to memorize)
I was skeptical of how much I would enjoy philosophy class at first; I now love reading philosophy, and I would attribute it to him.more

10/10 super great prof!! his modules were well-paced and very interesting. in terms of requirements, we had graded DBs and papers but he gives feedback and returned our grades pretty on time so you have a good idea of how you’re doing in class. he’s a super nice prof and v understanding in terms of deadlines too. i took his class during the quarterly system so im not so sure how it’s changed, but i super vouch!! you’ll be in good hands foshurmore

yea, this was semestral onsite! we had around 5 modules iirc, with a written quiz per module. he allots 15 minutes at the start of each class, and the questions depend on a pair of die he rolls HAHA 🎲. aforementioned questions are in the syllabus, so u can more or less prepare ur “thesis statement” and supporting explanation beforehand. the quizzes are about the readings, and yes u have the quiz before the discussion of the reading.
i got thru reading online text analysis and class discussions more than late-night combing thru. i loved sir’s quizzes and classes fr 🫶🏽more

solid A++++! i beadle’d for him, and it was a sem that was super chill at first so our lecs were mostly on how we saw ourselves in the vv theoretical readings. he’d make the grasp of the lesson digestible, and have lil pop quizzes before each reading’s discussions. the readings themselves can become abstract, but they’re value-adding and will act change ur perspective!
for the finals (1/2) groupwork vid, just choose good groupmates and everyth else should follow! just do ur part and give substance to the readings + some religious views here and there, and pray for lucky die in pop quizzes hehe. for the oral exams, just review ur notes honestly—it shouldn’t be that hard to do so bc he makes every onsite discussion worth coming to! ☁️more
