Had sir Ang for 2nd Sem 2024-2025 (am a graduating senior) but I really enjoyed his class! Pros: Sir is super passionate about the topics discussed and is very knowledgeable about global issues and the involvements of China as a world power today. For reqs, Many of them were quite easy as long as you do your research and follow his recommendations (send him your drafts and he will tell you how to improve). Major reqs were 2 essays that he gives the prompts for at the start of the sem and one group reporting which is about any topic that involves China’s tech and innovation. Sir also has fun activities in class to simulate some of the scenarios China went through (he gives free food during this haha) Sir also doesn’t seem to really count attendance and he gives unlimited cuts for Deans listers. Cons: Sirs lectures aren’t that engaging if you don’t find the topics interesting but he really appreciates recitation. For the essay reqs he recommends using a framework of sorts to structure the paper but he isn’t super clear on examples so sometimes you have to just find a framework online. Class won’t be super interesting if you aren’t interested in global topics and China’s development as a country/ involvement as a global power. Class topics: Science and Tech in Chinese history and past, some of the developments made during significant eras (dynasties, mao, current), Notable developments in the current decade for China and issues happening right now. TLDR: If you like the topics then you will do really well and enjoy the class. If you don’t, as long as you do your research and take note of some key concepts then you’ll be fine. Easy B+/A id say as long as you don’t submit anything late, do the right research and recite once in a while. Got an A from him and would definitely recommend!more

most of these revs are pretty outdated so ill update with my experience --- currently taking this class reqs wise - HEAVY af but manageable (he gives the following reqs below) - 3 discussion boards - 2 bonus reflection papers (which youd need to attend the talks to do) - 5 short essays (so far) - 2 major requirements (1 midterm and 1 final paper) - 1 group presentation - most essays requires an application of any framework/theory to exemplify the points made - grading wise: you definitely need to exert effort to get a grade higher than 85 - he grades fair naman but he only gives high if he thinks you deserve it sir as a prof/class proper itself - its a very chill class - theres a seating arrangement (you can choose where you sit then the beadle will submit the seating arrangement to him but he doesnt really use it much) - beadle is in charge of attendance - you can choose your groups for the group presentation - most of the time sir just yaps about the topics with occasional supplementary videos - theres also a few guest lecturers sometimes (when sir gets busy) but its interesting because the guest lecturer we had showcased acupuncture (a few classmates got a free acupuncture session) overall, you'll learn a lot if you're really interested/passionate about the topic but otherwise it might be difficult. i wouldnt say this is an easy A class but rather an easy B-B+ with effortmore

Would recommend! His class is pretty chill during lectures and some days we would have fun because he would do games/simulators. The content is actually pretty interesting since it looks at Chinese history and culture, not just business. It’d be better if you’re more aware of Chinese culture or aware of what’s going on in China, but I came in with practically zero knowledge and still did well. He grades based on class participation, a midterm essay, 3-4 groupworks (creative outputs), and a final essay. He’s also good with feedback. A-able with effort.more

Took up his class! Super lenient and chill. Class may be a bit technical for your taste if you have no interest in the course, but with a bit of reading and research you're good to go. Grades range from A/B+/Bmore

Hiii I was sir’s beadle last semester so here’s my take hehe Sir Ang is super passionate about the topics and really knows his stuff—especially on China’s role in the world today. Most of the requirements are straightforward if you do proper research and follow his suggestions. He’s generous with feedback, so send your drafts early and he’ll help you improve. Major requirements include: • Two essays (prompts given at the start of the sem) • One group report on anything related to China’s tech/innovation There are also fun simulation activities (he gives food during these!), and he doesn’t strictly check attendance. Dean’s Listers even get unlimited cuts. Cons: If you’re not into China/global politics, the lectures might feel a bit dry. He encourages using frameworks for essays, but he’s not always clear about what kind, so you might need to look for examples online. Class really depends on your interest in the subject—if it’s not your thing, it can drag a bit. Also, there’s no quiz or anything so it might feel boring if ur not participating or interested talaga Overall, I liked the class so i recommend it!! Easy A siya talaga❤️more
