- average C+, A-able with [a lot of] effort
- grades weird. sometimes your letter grades read “B/C+.” other times it’s just the exact number grade. in each requirement, some people might get letter grades and the others will get number grades.
- her computation for cuts is weird (1 cut = 1.5 cuts in her class or smth like that idr na) UNLESS you’re an honor student (she emphasizes this a lot so just tell her agad if you are one)
- 3-4 quizzes (all objective/concept and definition heavy), 1 group case study, 1 individual case study, 1 oral exam
- has a dresscode but is not very consistent in its implementation (some people will get in trouble, others won’t 🙃)
- don’t wait for her to post a canvas submission page. she will not do it. just pm her on canvas.
- do not let her know you have more than like one friend in the class SHSHHS she will keep calling u guys out or using u as examples for “group think” (cause she hates it!)
- old [AC] girls beware 💀
- pray she likes your section (she seemed to be nicer to some sections than to others)
- if she’s absent and says she’ll post a lecture, wag mo nang abangan. it’s probably not coming. if it does, it’ll be p late.
- rarely gives back quizzes/feedback on time (ex.: she gave us back our 2nd quiz at 12pm on the day of our 3rd quiz)
- confusing views on note-taking. she actively told us to stop writing notes and just to listen but also praised the people who were putting so much effort into their notes
- has favorite people she likes to target for recitations
- gluck if she thinks u “look like a delinquent.” she may not say it to ur face but u will know. on the other hand, if u look like a good student, congrats! she’ll love you 🫶🏽
- in relation to the previous bullet, if she does not like you, you will KNOW. she will shade u and sometimes even make comments to ur face.
- very old school thinking on the most part and will reason it with “cause i’m a boomer.”
- she already has a set answer in mind to each question. if that isn’t your answer, she will either argue or try to fish it out.
- sometimes tries to elicit critical thinking from the class but ends up with more confusion instead
- when the above happens, she tends to go in circles in her discussions.
- fatphobic to all hell. deadass made comments about people’s body type and appetite in front of the whole class while trying to use them in an example for a lesson.
- verbatim: “I am NOT compassionate.” so wag kang umasa sa mga extensions/considerations
overall, i would not recommend but i could just be biased 🤷🏽♀️

I had Doc A last semester and I loved her! She doesn’t grade the highest, but she definitely gives you the grade that you deserve.
She has high standards, but at the same time she doesn’t want you to “act smart” and use big words when you don’t need to. I learned a lot from her class, and she is one of my favorite profs so far!
In terms of assessments, she has a lot of quizzes (and she will offer the class an extra quiz to cancel your lowest one) but they’re manageable as long as you read the readings and go through her powerpoints on Canvas. She definitely values those who recite and are straight to the point rather than those trying to make their answer lengthy and over the top. Her midterm and finals are a bit tough, but she also tries her best to guide you in the right direction.
I feel that she targets students she knows don’t know the answer. She keeps you on your toes! So make sure you’re always listening in class. No gadgets allowed also, but I think that makes the class way more engaging. She also pays attention to the students who don’t take notes, so make sure you are!
I would take Doc A again in a heartbeat! If you want to learn and are willing to put effort into her class, you’ll enjoy it! If you’re looking for an easy A, you won’t get that with Doc A. I got a B+ with effort 🙂more

I just finished *watching* our last session with her (which could've been better if conducted onsite). 🥹🫶 Please, I love her so much! GOAT, I must say!
I won't comment much on her way of teaching but on the assessments and how to *potentially* survive the course.
Doc A won't give you the "A" unless you work VERY HARD for it.
• When you take her class, be sure that you're confident about your writing! All of the quizzes are essays. And it's not about reiterating her lectures but translating everything to how you understand them.
• Madali lang quizzes niya kung tutuusin. Skill issue lang talaga on my part. 😹
• She sometimes grades the quizzes, for example B+/B, which means she's gonna pick (in the future) which of the two is suitable for your performance. Masipag ka, B+; you slack off, B.
• She's willing to help you do better with the next assessments! She encourages consulting with her about the past quiz before the next one. She gives comments on the quizzes, which can greatly help you improve on the next ones. She also gives a practice case before we did the actual cases!
Overall, ikaw pa magpapasalamat na part ka ng class niya.

On my end for that last part, I was able to get an A on her orals. She seems intimidating at first nung una kang pumasok sa kwarto, but the way she guided me throughout it actually made me feel like I could do it, and hey I did:> Eventually got a B+ in her class, which is crazy after getting a C+ in my first two quizzes (before she gave us a make up quiz). Agree na agree that Doc A is the GOAT, her class was incredibly insightful and made me learn a lot (way too much, maybe) that being said -- totoo naman na hindi madali or completely A-able ang klase niya, but I can for sure say that taking her was worth it. Up to you what you wish to prioritize!more

tbh every class felt like some kind of a magisterial class and I really enjoyed all of them. In terms of ethics, I liked how she structured the entire sem because it focused more on the character-forming aspect of the course and less on the theoretical (but still enough focus is given on it though). Not a boring moment in class for me because she really knows what's she's talking about. Tbh took her class because I wanted to work in government, and in my head that entails a lot of ethical discipline and decision-making,,, I'm glad that I can say she was able to give us that! Be warned though, she's critical and is not the type to be kind with grades!more

Legendary prof. Tbh, her class was the most interesting i took this sem. She’s a very great and passionate professor, I recommend taking her basta hindi ka grade conscious at willing ka to adjust for dress codes because she’s strict on those.
Pro tip: listen to her lectures very intently, don’t be afraid to clarify and ask questions even if she seems intimidating, trust me mas gusto niyang may curious parin. Also, in writing essays just be direct and straight to the point. In oral exams, act like its a kwentuhan where you found every lecture of hers interesting to the bone.more

I personally consider her legendary prof status. like Randell said^ it felt like a magesterial lecture every class. She knows exactly what she wants to tackle with ethics, and expects that you also learn exactly what she is teaching. Tbf, shes very clear and easy to understand imo. I truly adore her lessons and would take her again, no doubt
That said, you also have to expect her to be very critical of your answers in class. She knows what she is looking for, and can see thru ur bs so don't even try to fake it. Again, I don't recommend her if u are the type to beat urself up ove a B or even B+, bc she doesn't hand them out if she doesn't think u deserve it
I still think about a lot of the lessons I got from her :-)) she's really a prof who changed my perspectives for the better and I'm super grateful she let me into her class despite late loadrev lol
If u do take her, sit in the front + ask questions !! She's super easy to talk to and will laugh w u hehemore

Hi! Took Doc A's class this sem. I really love her! Her class isn't necessarily A-able but she explains things in a way that is very simplified which you can really apply to your life right after the class which is the reason why she wants you to memorize her lectures (esp terms she emphasizes that will be important) that will be part of the quizzes. You really have to study the lecture notes you took (she doesn't allow gadgets taken out in class or during consulatations). You need to study the modules & ppts too. p.s. there will be discussion board activities on cases. Suggest you consult with her, it will also help calm your nervs when you get to orals since you've seen her many times to consult about how to improve for your quizzes. She's strict with dress code too, and she has this ritual where she asks the class to memorize her seatplan. But overall she's really motherly, understanding, and a wonderful person overall. You can watch Doc A's magesterial lecture to get to know her teaching style. (she's more interactive in class and likes to call on people for recitation). Goodluck, and enjoy! 🥰more

If you want a truly life-changing class, take her sub! She connects real-life examples to the lessons, which makes them better and more comprehensible. At first, she may seem intimidating, but she will guide you throughout the semester.
In terms of assessment and workload, it’s not THAT overwhelming. There are essay quizzes for each module, 1 group case analysis, 1 individual analysis, and a final oral exam. For the quizzes, she is really looking for something specific. She prefers simple, straightforward papers. When I say simple, I mean clear and to the point—no beating around the bush. Also, don’t answer the question the way you want; answer it the way it’s actually being asked. Just give what is being requested.
For grading, similar to other reviews, sometimes she gives two grades per assignment (e.g., A/B+), and then she’ll choose the final grade at the end of the course. If she sees that you participate in class and attend every single session (make sure to note this HAHA) she will likely give you the higher grade. She does give A’s, dw!! A-able naman!more

i super love doc a,,, but she is def a hard teacher to please. only take her if u have a healthy relationship w failure/low grades, otherwise u will find urself hating her class. i wouldn't say she "grades low" but she knows what she wants and what standards need to be met. basically, it's either u hit that mark or u don't.
i learned A LOT from her that i use in my everyday life, but i know that not everybody is ok w scoring low in place of that. it's easier to get thru her class if u think as philo as objective instead of subjective bc she grades on that HAHAHAmore

I love her but I get why she won't be everyone's cup of tea. I chose her as my prof without checking the reviews because of her magisterial lectures and true enough, she teaches well. She engages with her students well also by asking your thoughts on the topic. She's very accommodating when it comes to questions and clarifications. She also connects her lessons with real-life examples which definitely enriches understanding. Overall, she's a nice person (at least to our class; class dynamic is important, I think) and she's a good prof to take if you care about genuinely learning.
However, prepare to get C/B ranged grades. This is not because she grades with a dartboard—an A is definitely possible—but because she cares enough to make you care about learning and her class. Assessments are okay: 4 quizzes in essay form, orals, and 2 group assessments.
All in all, I'd say it was the best non-A class I've ever taken!
(P.S. She hates lazy beadles and she has made this clear. Doc A is nice to her beadles naman but you have to be responsible!)more

Bring your own pad of paper so you can write an outline first on a scratch paper before you write your actual essay. Clarity in how you organize and present your ideas will help your argument. That's how I got an A.more
