Other people have already commented for more recent reviews but I'll add to it! I took her for ENE 13.05 and she subbed for our ENLIT. TL;DR? Take her, you won't regret it. Ma'am is as insightful as she is kind, and she is plenty kind and considerate. By far one of the best profs I've chosen! For a more in-depth review: Attitude-wise: She is super considerate. To cite an anecdote, she adjusted requirements multiple times during midterms and finals season and allowed people to submit both minor and major requirements late without deductions so long as you had an excuse. These valid excuses can range from stress from another subjects and mental health issues to the usual medical issues. Ma'am is very kind and almost mother-like too. She appreciates all kinds of oral discussion and participation and will always accommodate your opinion. Teaching-wise: Her slides are just for show, you'll have to listen to her or see what she's writing on the board to fully engage and to make the best out of the lessons. Personally, I did not have to write down notes at all during her subject but this might vary depending on what she's teaching! She is very easy to listen to! I mean this in a good way. She concisely gets her point across and attempts to always ground it in a way that students will truly understand. She will often have grouped discussions or hurdles that pertain to that specific topic and each group will discuss it with the entire class afterwards. This seemed to be very effective in the grand scheme because it engaged the class more than I expected! Requirements-wise: Her subject is quite light if you compare it to other subjects. You'll have 1-2 readings or videos every module but these readings are more often than not short. These are accompanied with either DBs or onsite discussion. You'll have a miscellaneous task connected to the topic of that module, per module. This will require some application of concepts and creativity (you get plus points for being creative with your output; you also get a shoutout!) Our midterm and finals consisted of a film analysis and re-angling respectively. Again, this may vary with the course she's teaching. The midterm was a creative output containing the analysis. The finals was a creative presentation of your re-angle. She also gives out bonus activities for people who may have missed previous discussions and reading/watching activities. Grades-wise: Hard to say given that the people in our class put in varying amounts of effort. I would honestly say it's an easy A if you know what you're talking about! Ma'am is quite philosophical and she likes it when you stir lots of opinion with back-up to your opinion. In other words, it's an easy A if you put in some effort and ma'am recognizes this, she certainly did for me! If you put in minimal effort you'll probably still land around the B to B+ range. Conclusion: Take her! Her teaching style and her kind nature makes her subject very chill and enjoyable. I personally enjoyed a number of our readings because of ma'am's approach of not strictly basing everything on the reading nor strictly requiring you to read them (though they will help you). Absolutely the best and the sweetest! Words are not enough to describe how phenomenal she is as a professor. As someone who initially did not find the intersection of science/engineering to narratives, Ms. Brillo absolutely made me realize where that is. In terms of workload, I'd say it was generally light, with some DBs and group tasks just there hmm, but the heavier ones were the midterm and final outputs/presentations, but she's very lenient naman in grading. But don't take it for granted, please make sure your outputs are still in line with the rubrics and instructions. I can't remember a class that I was bored, even her online classes were energetic! She really made us feel that the class was not just something out of requirement, but a class you'd really wanna be in! Ofc grading-wise, again she's lenient naman and grades very, very fairly. I'd say easy B+ and very very A-able. Again, just make sure you follow all rubrics and instructions, and please submit on time. If ever you get Ms. Brillo's class, I am 100% sure you won't regret it. Most of my classmates would agree. Goodluck,! P.S. I think a downside would be no gadgets while notetaking, although I get naman where she's coming from. The discussions can be a bit fast so be prepared na lang. However, she does allow gadgets when the need arises (like in group tasks). took ENE 13.05i under ms. brillo last sem and it was one of the best classes i had :)) - readings that we had varied in length pero they were easy to understand naman - workload was oks lang. there were some discussion boards, some mini tasks, two major tasks, and onsite activities - super bait and nice magturo. always din niyang cinoconnect sa real world yung stuff na tinututro niya which i really loved. she’s lenient din when it comes to deadlines :)) - she loves having group discussions during onsite classes. parang almost every onsite session namin, may group discussion or activity na not heavy naman - grades fairly. as long as you submit everything and participate in class, your grade will be fine some tips: - go over the readings in advance kasi she loves asking questions regarding the materials she assigns to u - consult if kaya kasi helpful siya esp para sa major tasks - participate in claaass. she encourages everyone to share their insights talaga, esp after group discussions. super bait din ni ms. brillo kaya dont be afraid to try hehe. if you got ms. brillo, you’re in gooooood hands. super b+/a-able!!!more

Additional comments for Ma'am Brillo (I also had her for ENGL 11 last sem as well): - Discussions are fun in her subject. She would group our class into four and allow us to have discussions within the group and then would ask a representative to share to the class what their insight to the topic is. - For major tasks, she would review the topics you want to write about to ensure that your chosen topic is strong! She'd provide ways on how to enhance the topic further as well. - At the end of the semester, she would also have a google form that you can answer if you want to see your current grade standing. As mentioned, definitely B+/A-able!more

super super good! you know you’ll enjoy your time w her & learn bc she’s so friendly yet firm. cares about your mental wellbeing so it’s ok if you submit your work 1-2 days late (she will tell you multiple times to not stay up late for her work GAGAH tho to be fair her workload’s really light except for the midterm & final requirements for those lang ako nagpuyat but they’re doable in a day). grades fairly & returns graded work SO QUICK. very accommodating of others’ ideas, pero if you’re talking nonsense she’ll spot it HAHAH. overall had a gr8 time in her class, ez A. 11/10 highly recommended!more

Like magugulat ka sa discussion niya because you’d feel like nababasa nya utak mo kasi sobrang parallel ng ideas nyo. That shows how effective of a teacher she is! Dabest! Since ppl want sum recent comments, here ya go:> I took her onsite class for ENGL 11 and all I can is it is one of the goatest class I'd ever taken last sem. - you are in good hands FRRR!! She's kind and considerate prof who takes care of your welfare - readings and workloads are light. Idk about for those na magtatake ng enlit 12, especially it's literature heavy, basta manageable ang mga gawain! Just give a heads up lang sa kanya if di kakayanin within a time period. - napaka passionate niya magturo. She has that strict voice at first, pero she'll bring reality context within the discussions when necessary One tip: she always follows the rubrics, kaya always check on them especially in major assessments. And take advantage of peer reviews and consultations, if meron, kasi peer reviews dagdag points yun + you'll get a feedback from her para ma-set ang standards to get an A!
