wag n…. I had her for both ARTS 110 and Character Design and all i can say is run…. For my experience in ARTS 110, she was actually pretty okay! She does not teach much but she will guide you very minimally [Lectures / Teachinng Style] For ARTS 110, she already expects you to be good at what you do, or as much as possible already know the basics. She does not really teach stuff in depth (even in my experience in other classes LMFAO) so expect to mostly know about the basic knowledge that you could probably find out in a single google search. She also depends on youtube videos which she shows in class as lecture material but tbh while they are helpful in a broader sense it would have been much better if she actually taught it😭 [Grading System] If you know how to draw and paint already, you won’t really have a hard time! She’s a bit nicer for ARTS 110 students as compared to her other subjects both grading and feedback wise. If u know how to draw, you might get like a B+ to A in ur plates as long as you don’t cram your plates and put a lot of effort in them. If your still new to drawing, she does expect you to learn everything very quickly so I do suggest to practice agad bcz she is not the nicest person to ppl who struggle with illustrating 😞 She does fail and she also gives very low grades if she doesn’t like your work and her standards are on the higher end too,, [Consultations / Feedback] Prepare to be grilled! She isn’t easy to please and she is not nice about it. She will say mean and harsh things to you when critiquing your work,,, tbh best to just take the criticism and ignore the personal diss😭 She’s honestly really mean but her comments make sense naman sometimes. Having consultations with her is very helpful tho so I would recommend that because she will point out everything in your work [Attitude / Professionalism] She is unforch not very professional when it comes to talking to her students. She really comes of as very harsh and she actually means it 😭 She does say really bad things about your work and also you as a designer/artist so just look out for that : ( Probably an A to B+ with a lot of effort if you esp have a history with drawing or if u hav a lot of free time to practice drawing!more

i took her character design class for intersession and it was the worst decision of my life! the pacing of the class was terribly rushed. our final requirement was a book on our character designs (minimum was 2 characters), the worldbuilding, WIPs, processes, and other lore and information. she also expects everyone to go above the minimum requirement (4 worldbuilding illustrations, 2 poses per character, 6 expressions per character, 1 main poster design, 3 character interaction illustrations) because why not. the pacing might be a bit better for a full semester, but regardless of that, the class is still Hell on Earth. the discussions don't really go in depth -- most of the time we would just be introduced to an important aspect of character design (shape language, color, etc.), shown a youtube video on the topic, and then working period on the plates! there's also regular required consultations for you to show your designs and she'll give you feedback. this is how each module goes, and it saddens me because i didn't really learn as much about character design as i was hoping to. on top of all that, she expects everyone to already have some sort of advanced illustration skill on hand. simpler art styles are kind of looked down on. she can also be quite harsh when giving feedback, comments, and grades. i've heard multiple stories and none of them are pretty. :// this class was a solid 0/10 for me. on a positive note, if you really really love illustrating and writing stories, this class might be fun and a good excuse for you to flesh out your OCs and their lore! having a really good and responsible beadle is also a must. it's kind of scary to talk to her personally and i wouldn't have survived this without our hardworking beadle. :,)) i wish you the best of luck!!more

hello this is super super late na, but for those who will be seeing this post in the future: currently having her for this sem and i can vouch for those who're saying na you should look for another prof. this is a heavy class so don't stress yourself further with a terror prof. - fast-paced class, she doesn't teach extensively - she's nitpicky with her reviews of students' works (yes, she reviews works in front of the class) - she will really squeeze out your creative juices but mostly she grades pretty low. def not an easy A if you're not going to go all-in - strict sa deadlines. you either get a deduction or F. make sure to print your outputs ahead of time - probably before the sem you should practice already the basics so that by the time the sem starts you already know enough to give you more time to work. learning curve in indesign is still difficult to master - sa una lang talaga madali, but when it does get hard, it gets HARD. really not a recommendable prof at all, and i hope anyone will get someone else. this is by far the only class during my sem that i've felt extreme pressure sa time good luckmore

^^ had her for online rin same with but yes!! would like to add rin na she’s very particular with details rin, like shading,how you draw you lines, and strokes. just make sure to plan your outputs in advance so you can prep:))more

secret third option is to move that elective to another sem. I took her class and didn’t have a good experience because she wanted artists who were already the best at drawing, I recommend taking another elective insteadmore

in all seriousness tho, while the other replies are true naman she also doesn’t really shy away from giving 100s if she thinks you deserve it so it’s not a total “run as far as u can,” you rly just have to put effort in!! also she encourages to be honest with her lang talaga whether or not you have a background in traditional art so she can feel out how to grade your work. and!!! chose your references wisely! my tip is to make sure that the references you show her are doable for u but would still challenge you enough. i found that she really values growth and stepping out of your comfort zone! ps. you can cram. as someone who has crammed almost every plate: trust.🤞 GOOD LUCK THO🫶more

If you have a strong grasp and know your fundamentals well (e.g Human Anatomy, etc) then Ma'am Aze is the best prof to go. She's very strict with deadlines and the workload might be suffocating but it's a great way to manage discipline. Sabi nga if you survive Ma'am Aze then you're set to graduate. Also ma'am Aze comes from a corporate background kasi so she really has that switch. But if you find her outside of class she's really fun to talk to!more

joke anyway… she was an okay prof for me because i alr have a background in trad art + art in general … though my best advice is to start practicing as early as now! she expects you to know the concepts since she just briefs you through the lesson and lets you do the rest by yourself 😭 i struggled so much w painting so it was pretty hard nga 4 me PREPARE TO BE GRILLED. if you struggle with accepting criticism, this is your sign to start preparing. she does not spare on details and will tell you straight up if the work isn’t up to her liking.!! A-able - B+able with A LOT of effort… just don’t cram your work cuz she can tell when it’s crammedmore

just came across this with no detailed review, so i'll just talk abt my experience (although online yung klase ko w her!!) i think i was medj lucky because i have a lot of experience creating art prior to her class, because she's really picky if you're not really good at creating. we had to make multiple outputs throughout the semester using different materials, all with different prompts. if i remember correctly, i had to do 5 major artworks with dry materials (charcoal, colored pencils, etc.) and 3 major artworks with wet materials (oil, acrylic, etc.) i hope i don't come off as boasting pero genuinely, if you have experience in arts, you have a major advantage, bc she liked a lot of my stuff HAHAHA. she always opens consultations naman for each output, but u have to be ready just in case she doesn't like something. she's really knowledgeable, and the modules outside the outputs aren't tooo heavy. idk if it changed for onsite.more

I can't speak for a lot of people, but if you're experienced with drawing/illustrating this is a really nice class! Ma'am Aze does have experience in the industry, so it's really helpful to learn fundamentals on what makes a character design work if you want to pursue a career in illustration/comics/animation. But to parrot from others, this class is medyo heavy with requirements needed every week, like character sheets and presentations, and since this ISNT a class that teaches you how to draw, you are at least expected to have a good grasp at drawing human anatomy. Overall, if you can handle some criticism and revisions for your designs, this is a great place to have fun making OCs and world building. Hope this helps!more

Hi, if you know how to draw or you know how to sell a story, you’ll be okay. After this class you’ll definitely develop a new form of discipline. She isn’t as strict with her character design students, as long as you can take criticism. Workload is really heavy though, prepare to present every meeting. Good luckmore

Maaaaan...I mean if you're really, REALLY extremely good at art, this class is a breeze. However, if you want to learn how to make art / enhance your current skills...haHAHA She barely teaches and mostly reads off her PPT, her demonstrations on how to execute works is around 5 seconds, and her expectations are extremely high. She even said, "Why pick a course you're not good at?" 😃 You will have around three plates per module while using different mediums, which is quite fun actually. Your plates will be critiqued, and I mean both constructive and destructive criticism. She can be reaaally harsh and mean with her comments. She will make you feel you don't deserve to be a Fine Arts student. Overall, B with much effort. I almost felt like shifting because of her, hahaha. The title of the course may be INTRODUCTION to Studio Arts but she expects that you're graduates from Glasgow School or something.more

Tbf if you already have a background in trad art and ur skills are above average it’s an easy A esp if you could do human portraits with pencil & dont cram. But if you can’t and just want to learn how to do it she’ll def grill u cause she expects people to be skilled in trad art already upon enlisting in her class.more
