took sir devilles for fili 12 last sem and i can say he was my worst ateneo prof experience. hopefully, it stays that way. if u want to get good grades and learn, load rev out. QPI's were destroyed and i learned barely anything at the end of the sem. Reqs: -his only requirements are quizzes (can be unnannounced) and long tests -quizzes and long tests are always multiple choice and t or f, except for one pop quiz after holy week that was identification (average score was like 1/10) -there are no assignments, essays, and group activities which are nice if you hate those kinds of assessments but then it also gives you no chance to pull up your grade -at the end of a quiz or long test, he chooses people from the class to answer questions which can be considered another quiz in itself (10/10 if u get the answer correct, 6/10 if you get the one answer wrong but correct in another, 4/10 if you do not get any question right, 0/10 if ure late so NEVER BE LATE) Topics -CRAZY he will tell you that the quiz is about the 'panahan ng galyon' but he will test you on where certain landmarks are in NCR -u can ask him for the topic, but i wouldnt suggest trusting him. -i would suggest reading the introduction of each chapter, he usually gets questions from there -memorize the authors of each literary work -bayabayin is part of the topics but he gives a cheat sheet -learn the NCR roads Grades -His grading mechanics are purely based on quizzes(40%) and long tests(60%) but at least he has this grade transmutation thing that you only need to get like a 20% to get a D -average of our class was still C/C+ -He has bonus activities (like going to a play, going to intramuros) but he only gave plus 1 point to one of our quizzes which tbh for me wasn't worth it to my grades but I had a lot of fun with my blockmates ❤ -make sure u have a hardcopy of the pasakalye bc he will give plus points for that attitude -hes the editor of pasakalye so he's kinda arrogant (maybe not kinda) -he can be mean at times (he would single you out in class if you can't answer a question and say ure not deserving to be in Ateneo lmao). We also tried to approach him during his consultation time in his office but he got mad at us and tried to turn us down. he eventually gave in after we begged him ❤ Sir Devilles Fili 12 will definitely help ur block bond if u like trauma bonding. Since the course was "panitikan ng pilipinas", here is a literary work by my blockmate made in one of his classes.more

Had him for artap 10. At first, he seems nice but his quizzes are not even part of his discussion. We had a lot of quizzes (i think almost every meeting before the class starts). We had groupworks and reporting but he will never give you the perfect score at all. If he doesn't like what you presented, he will give u a huge deduction for your score. He will give kinda vague instructions for the groupwork and expects you to present beyond what he asked for. Make sure to present what he asks for before presenting smth beyond it or else he will give you a low grade (he will give you only 50% of the perfect score). Idk if that makes sense huhu. He is nice tho since i am always late for his class (it was an 8 am class in arete) but he extends his quiz time so late comers can answer the quiz. As the sem progresses, tbh, i don't know where he gets the questions for the lt's 😅 even though you study for the lt, you are not prepared for the questions. We had readings but he will never get questions from it. We watched movies from time to time and we had good discussions about it. I like how he discusses things and i say i learned a lot. But the effect of his idk-where-he-gets-it quizzes and lt's makes me forget the those amazing discussions. I say he is B-able with effort and B+ with super effort. I think the class average is C+/B (??) because he will show the whole class your grades. Only few people got B+ from our class and it was borderline B/B+. Ask him for the content of lt. Like specific part, is it multiple choice? What type of questions?? Etc. Most of the time he will answer naman, but that won't fully prepare you for his questions. Maybe you'll have an idea but you need have a good general knowledge stocked in your brain. Idk how he will conduct this online class tho. I guess good luck hehemore

I took him onsite for one interdisciplinary elective, and I have some points for you to consider: - His lectures and class content are quite interesting, especially when it goes into directions you don't typically expect in class. For instance, I didn't know that I would need to learn imagery and knowing about the urbanization of Metro Manila before going through films and literature being studied in class. Really facinating. - He doesn't give finals exams, rather he considers long tests to be the largest when computing for grades. Also of note is that assessments are also graded, but they collectively give out a lower percentage compared to long tests in the grading components. - We typically met one onsite session a week, the other schedule being async. This was the norm for us last semester; I'm not sure if this will be similar come the next. - Make sure to attend all onsite classes, because you will never know when a graded assessment comes. Be prepared (and also ready to make bawi for grades if ever you missed a day or two). - He's willing to give extra credit or other means to pull our grades up when needed. - Really make sure you know your grammar and sentence construction, and also get what he asks for in essays. He is very particular with how you write, which is essential in surviving this class. Overall, he's a fine prof if you really want to learn from someone who expresses great insight but really be prepared to attend all classes and brush up on your Filipino writing skills.more

wag<3 for our class, the only reqs we had was an essay for every module. our grades largely depended on the essay because he just adds the scores together, so each point counts. but the thing is we never know what he's looking for, if you dont write wat he's expecting, you're gonna get a low grade. but if u write wat he's looking for naman all he says is "good." so you really just have to guess???? though he holds a synch session for each module and he discusses slightly about the essays ( pls verify) and maybe try to consult him? i never tried it so i cant say for sure + his modules arent helpful rin, cuz its literally just an introduction and sometimes video descriptions copied from youtube, and then he'll just tell you to watch the videos:))) he curved hard tho, i got a C+ which was already around the class average but he curved it to a B+, but still not worth it if u ask me:D (dis artap tho idk how hes like for other subjects)more

had him for fil so idk if thisll be any help haha but hes a smart prof with expectations set wayyyy too high...... like unhealthily high. theres a difference between pushing your students to study hard and be responsible & having unreasonable quizzes about things na OBVIOUSLY siya lang may alam. like .. u could tell us d coverage at least ! he’s just very in love w the philippines pero alam mo yung instead of helping us fall in love with the country too, he just made us feel dumb na di namin alam yung mga alam niya?? LIKE UR JOB IS TO TEACH US but instead nagbigay na lang ng quizzes of stuff we couldve actually studied abt or researched abt if he didnt wanna tell us so bagsak na lang kami lahat :))) one of the most upsetting classes i’ve ever taken. couldve been good tbh like the content is pretty solid and he really wants us to learn i guess. but to help students learn, you dont need to make them feel bad/ stupid, right? hahaha idk . i didnt get a bad grade naman. actually got high compared to the class average so why i am so vocal abt this right? but who tf cares abt the grades if the learning experience was damaging to your mental health? haha ok byemore

Some of his lessons naman are insightful, some are quite boring especially if he would digress while he lectures. Expect a quiz every session, he won’t say when you will have a quiz, basta be prepared (might be different tho since online) His exams are very tricky, his essays are quite hard to perfect. Overall, if you have him, try to work hard kasi the raw grades are quite sad, but he automatically grades the class in a curve using his curving formula. C+ to B+ range, A with mega effortmore

tbh hes ok naman for me. love his lecs pero if u think ur grades matter a lot to you then take note of the comments here. puro pop quizzes + LT yung basehan ng grades mo. as much as possible wag aabsent pag may quiz kasi di ka na ipagttake ng quiz (auto-zero ka na kahit may excuse letter ka man) sa quizzes, you should be knowledgeable sa commute around metro manila (landmarks, LRT/MRT), your basic north south east west, specific historical events (afaik he quizzed us sa LT about martial law), etc. as much as possible gawin mo yung pinapabonus niya every module para mahila grades mo pataas. also, hiram ka ng physical copy ng pasakalye kasi madalas pabonus niya yon. mostly aasa ka talaga sa biyaya ng diyos kaysa sa sarili mong effort haha pero hes actually a smart prof. dami kong natutunan sakanya. di ko marecommend sa mga taong gusto ng mataas na grades though 😭 (if wala kang magawa and siya talaga prof mo sa FILI12, wag kang matakot. B+ able naman siya)more
