Take him! He lets you speak English or use English words for when you don't know the Tagalog counterpart. Since it's a literature class, you'll be focusing more on, well, literature and not grammar or anything related to that.
He's one of my favorite profs for the sem mainly because you won't ever get bored during his lectures. He always finds a way to relate the lesson to current happenings and he does this in a very engaging way. He's super passionate about everything and you'll often find him acting out the literary piece being discussed for emphasis (he once locked himself out of the room while he was acting 😭).
When he says you'll have a quiz next week, odds are, it will actually happen NEXT month. He doesnt skip lessons when suspensions occur and he also doesn't speed up the lecture just to catch up. He's very detailed. Very very detailed. That is why he's got a reputation for giving tough quizzes and I can attest to that. Just make sure that when he told you which literary pice you'll have a quiz on, go over it over and over again especially if you're not good in Filipino since his exam questions tend to get tricky and would require some critical thinking.
Overall, he's a GREAT prof, you won't regret choosing him.

Update: I had him for FILI12 just this second semester and while his long tests can be difficult (we felt like we were going crazy!), he doesn't do right minus wrong na! He's so much more lenient and is willing to hear out his students on where they're struggling :)) It doesn't matter much if you're not good at Filipino, whether with speaking or writing—he cares more about your ideas even if you speak/write it with a mix of English. It's more important that you try.
His classes are best enjoyed by students who recite a lot or engage in discussions :)) He might love your class more if that's the general attitude. Beadle for him if you can, he responds quickly (within the day or the ff. morning) but be good at it because your class may have a lot of questions/requests. He gives a lot of opportunities to bump up your recit points/curve potential. Lastly, he's just hands down great at teaching! Every class is WORTH IT.
Anyone who tries their best in Dr. Respeto's class can likely get a B, B+, or even a solid A (with effort, but not impossible at all!).more

Popa is probably one of the best and most memorable profs I've had so far (kasi last summer ko lang siya nakuha chekka) and he will have slots sa Batch 2!!! Tips: Make sure you read the readings kahit sobrang rami, because he does check-up quizzes all the time. The questions of his quizzes are objective to really test if you read the reading or not. His quizzes begin at the start of class, so don't be late!!! Recite in his class, he really appreciates it if you can bring something new to the table instead of applying what he's said before. He gets moody especially when you're not paying attention in class, so pay attention and take notes!! He's an amazing prof! He's definitely shaped the way I see Filipino culture now kasi sobrang pinagisipan talaga niya yung mga sinasabi niya and he expresses it very well! He made me love Fil lit more, sobra and I always came to class very excited to learn hehehehe.more

QUIZZES SYA!! objective naman so okay lang at madaming bonus. (dont forget your syllabus sa frst day) at sya din yung prof na nagbibigay ng cancellable quizzes pag may filipino artist ntbk ka! haha wala siyang LT's, mga projects lang. its more techy than traditional, like blogs, videos, vlogs ganun. 50-50 individual and group! so keribels.

I spent most of the sem (at least 2 hours a day) sa old lib. Pick a word that will REALLY pique your interest (you'll be having an etymology research kind of thing for the entire sem) and it'll be fun :)more

As for requirements naman, she gave us 3 LTS iirc, quizzes after every topic, a group report, a final group project, a reaction paper and written finals. She made us read Aliguyon. WHICH YOU HAVE TO READ OKAY BECAUSE I DIDN'T AND I DID TERRIBLY IN HER CLASS. DO ALL THE READINGS. Reasonable naman ang requirements niya tbh.more

She's really smart okay and nagaling talaga but she's has super high standards. First, Okay she grades bad as in she curves naman but still bad, class average is around C to C+ lang I have friends who actually got a D from her. Okay so I mentioned na she has high standards right? Minsan its unreasonable na, like simple gramatical error lang she sent a group that was presenting out na for the whole session. Once she graded someone's paper in front of the class and she told us that this person failed ba because of simple gramatical errors and wrong spellings. She gives quizzes din lagi lol and her tests aren't easy din. You'll learn naman but for me its not worth the hassle ugh.more

100% AGREE Jacobo is the best!! Despite him being pegged as a moody/mean prof, that's not true! He's actually pretty nice and he really takes the time to remember his students. Just don't ever forget or be afraid to say hi to him when you pass by him outside of class!! Also be prepared to live in old rizal lib for a significant amount of time. Heavy workload but worth it in the end if you really put in the effort. You'll learn a lot in his class and he grades high basta lang pakita mo sa kanya that you're working for it! 😊more

He's 100% more likely to go crazy. The only time he might be nice is when he's wearing all white. Half-white doesn't count (I thought it would. It didn't.)more

Sir Respeto's so kind!! I never really liked Fil class but I'd look forward to his. He always guides his students when they have a hard time with the language or with understanding the readings. Very fatherly!!
Jacobo naman will give you loads of work but it's fulfilling tbh. I thought the papers were gonna be crazy hard but it's very doable in a night or two as long as you have all your sources and quiz notes. If you miss a quiz, you can write about your visit to a library etc. When he's in a good mood it's super fun! When he's wearing all black, don't mess up!! He also teaches in taglish most of the time & his lectures on love are funmore
