hi had sir Jim as one of our two profs for CHEM 131.02 (quantitative chemical analysis lab); he's super chill and accommodating and willing to help us understand the experiments, concepts, and calculations involved to the point of making video guides for some of the more complicated solutions! he is also open to consultation whether in person or via canvas inbox, sometimes replying at late nights, even for details as small as how many significant figures we're supposed to display in each column of our processed data unfortunately we never got any feedback for our prelab or analysis reports (the former of which was a little bit of a pain for my final grade), but as long as you follow the guidelines it should be at least B-able. our class average was a middle B+, but relatively low standard deviation overall chill cool and accommodating prof; for our case at least, B to B+-able and A with extra effort and a little bit of luck <33more

hi! i had him for a chemistry major specific lab class so i’m not sure if he teaches chem 21.12 the same way:)) but from my experience, his workload is quite standard for a lab class. prelabs, prelab quizzes on the day of the experiment, and a worksheet or formal postlab for the experiment that’s usually due a week after the experiment date (although he’s willing to give extension is the situation necessitates it). in terms of grading, pretty standard as well! i think your grade will correspond to your effort so just give it your best and you can hope for the best:)) in terms of him himself, he’s really nice and he’ll help you during the experiments if you come across a problem. he’s generally very good vibes. i wouldn’t worry op! good luck!more

Sir Jim is a super chill and fun prof you’ll learn a lot from him as he really guides you through the concepts and lab work. He discusses topics in a very straightforward way, which makes everything easier to understand. For laboratory work that has a heavier workload, he allows group submissions for prelabs and postlabs, which honestly makes things so much more manageable. He’s also really chill with grading. I even missed a prelab quiz but still got an A. Overall, you’ll get to learn a lot without feeling overwhelmed.more

adding on to this as one of his beadles this intersession for CHEM 131.02, he is very approachable in general and you'll find yourself na chinichika si sir jim throughout the experiment proper 😭 he is also vv lenient on the deadlines of requirements when he sees that there is substantial reason naman to move it overall, you're in for an enjoyable lab experience under sir jim bc we enjoyed having labs despite the crunched time this intersession, however would not recommend if you're looking for an A-able prof:((more
