hi, i'm his beadle and he'll change the way you think about yourself after whatever hell organic chemistry gave you ^__^
[1] DELIVERY: hinihimay niya talaga yung topics + his slides are super reliable. hindi na ako nagbasa sa reading material at all, nagtiwala na lang ako sa slides + quiz + lectures. it's super helpful that he uploads lecture videos, lalo na noong suspensions, to supplement his slides.
[2] QUIZZES: mostly multiple choice, some are identification. some require very basic calculation, more on analysis ka talaga. you can use calculators naman ^__^ to ace the quizzes, you need a good grasp of the lectures. go through the slides, read the words carefully kasi the stuff that you usually ignore, yun pa yung lalabas, even the smallest details. you have to rely on your recall and memorization talaga. PLUS he discusses the answers with the class right after submitting the quiz. That way, alam mo agad score mo and alam mo agad what's the right way to think of the problem. many quiz items are similar to long exam items.
[3] ATTENDANCE: he does not take attendance but I suggest attending 100% of his onsite lectures. sobrang malaman at step-by-step ang approach. if you're lost especially about gen chem and org chem topics, hindi ka niya ipapahiya.
[4] COMMUNICATION: mabagal mag-reply sa email regarding make up test schedules or if asynch ba or synch. He shifted to async mode a few times during the transport strike, especially if nakiusap yung beadle, pero madaling-araw na in-announce sa Canvas He has the tendency to stick with the admin's decision tho
[5] 3 LONG EXAMS + FINAL EXAM: to ace, go through the slides again and again. memorize a lot of stuff. draw (amino acids) and practice cyclization (sugars). analyze grpahs, compute a few small numbers. He will not include modules that were not discussed irl (even if he posted the slides and video lectures on Canvas). each long exam covers usually 2 modules.
[6] GRADING: very fair. 20% quizzes, 55% for the 3 long exams, and 25% for the final exam.. he returns naman pretty much on time (?)

love doc arjay!!!! (i took him onsite for biochem for chem majors) his lectures and slides are so comprehensive and long (which is both a pro and a con), but you really will learn the topic well and with good depth.
pro because if you need to review for quizzes or exams, just open the slides and go through them.
con because it's really long because it's so comprehensive. and some view his lectures as a bit boring.
personally, i like his style of teaching. it is straightforward and relatively easy to understand even without prior knowledge of the topic. he's open to questions you have during class and even a few minutes after class. unfortunately i don't really know how responsive he is through email as i haven't had the opportunity of emailing.
workload is not super heavy. we had weekly quizzes, three long exams, and a final comprehensive exam. DO WELL IN THE QUIZZES!! it really helps you gauge how well you've mastered the lesson/topic of the previous week. it also is good to use to pull your grade up. the quizzes are also a very good gauge of what will likely come out of exams, so you can use this as reviewer for exams.
grading system is very straightforward. wala sobrang subjectivity and you can more or less know what standing you're in also.

just finished taking biochem under sir arjay this sem, and all i can say is WOW, WOW, WOW.
first of all, his lectures are very organized. you will really gain all the knowledge you need to know about the concepts. chemistry really is my weak suit, but he really made it manageable. just make sure na hindi ka malo-lost mid-lecture para smooth ang flow ng train of thought mo.
for his quizzes, they really just assess your knowledge on the past module/s. make sure to browse ur ppts again and consult w him if needed, super approachable niya! also, his quizzes make up a signficant portion of your grade as well so prepare for them as much as you would for LTs. speaking of LTs, they're parang extended versions of the quizzes, with just more questions from both lectures and ppts. he also curved in a way na he reduced total points, so better if u can score beyond the hps hehe.
overall, not an easy A, but A- to B+-able. just listen well, practice practice practice, and prepare well for assessments. sir arjay is really the 🐐 prof of the chem dept! be nice to him as he's also the nicest! goodluck, op! 🥰more

doc arjay is a good science educator, and he makes you love learning biochem! the assessments are appropriately scaffolded (no big jump from lecture > quiz > LT > final exam). the things you learn in class build up on the previous lessons, tsaka applied to your context (lev vygotsky you would have loved doc arjay).
everything you need to study are on the slides or lecture videos. we had “weekly” quizzes, 3 long tests, and 1 final exam. the quizzes kinda “prepare” you for the long tests and finals. you already get an idea of what information to prioritize, based on the quizzes. he dropped one module (lipids) from the coverage this semester because of the suspensions. i agree with the comment about straightforward assessments; you can get an idea of your grade based on your scores. overall, i think his method of instruction is ideal for the course!more

had him for biochem for chem majors (chem 151.01) and i love doc arjay kahit mej inconvenient yung sched namin sa kanya (6:30 to 8:00pm) HAHAHA
his lectures might come off as boring but I think it's straightforward lang talaga, and you can only do so much to make biochem engaging sa hirap ng subject matter lol. also I remember him starting class with real life biochem applications for motivation. I like na he makes his slides as great reviewers for his tests.
treat his quizzes as review for his LTs also, and he gives a lot of quizzes so you can make bawi if you score low in a fewmore
