Essentially the final task is a final paper and for your oral exam it’s defending the content of your paper. Highly suggest being confident with content of what you put as the defense is quite short but depending on your answer, it will affect the entirety of your grade. Considering that it is a group task, doing well with the first two requirements (an individual and a pair paper) will help boost your grades greatly.more

Do well sa mga reqs and follow his formats. May mga days na tuturuan nya kayo on how to do the requirement like what he wants to see from ur output ganon. Ayon lng. Pero again, yak.more
His lectures are fun and entertaining. There aren't a lot of readings per se, you can mostly rely on the slides he uploads for reviewing and sometimes study in advance. His quizzes/exams are fair I would say, not easy but not too difficult, just a bit of memorization and application of the rules of logic. I suggest you practice/review by analyzing real life arguments, maybe in news or a debate.more

Charlize Martinez how was his grading for u? :<<

the workload is doable but wouldnt bet on getting an A. he's very nitpicky when it comes to covering different moral theories in each paper and something as small as the wrong format can bump you down to a B+. he grades fair tho based on my experience, but I suggest to go for a different prof if you can.more

like what other people said he's sooooo nitpicky, not only abt the lesson but also with format 😭 my only A in his 4 outputs was with the reflection paper, and ifl i only managed that bc i really heavily referenced the sample papers he sent us, as in binilang ko how many words each section and then i tried to make my own paper have a similar proportion 😭😭😭 the fact na nakasalalay ang grade mo sa apat lang na reqs was also very scary for me personally... iirc wala din ata siyang class participation grade 😭😭😭 i barely got a B+ in this classmore

he's nice, his lectures are helpful, his modules are well-organized, and his reqs are manageable. however, my biggest issue with him lang is that his consultations were kind of labo to the point where he would say na ok naman yung points in the consultation but suddenly have a problem with it when he gives feedback. also, he had an assistant helping him with checking but parang the assistant had a completely different standard or understanding of the rubrics in mind because his comments sa consultation would go against the assistant's feedback when the assistant would check the paper 😢 and if you would ask him to remark your paper your final grade could get drastically different (whether higher or lower) or he could change it lang by a few decimal points. but throughout the class talaga i just couldn't get what he was looking for in the assignments even if i followed the rubric and cited lots of quotes and info from the readings ☹️ i was fighting for my life in every paper, like my grade in one paper would be mid then it would be high in another then low 😭 i think he's b+-able at most lol
the final orals weren't too bad tbh he was really nice even if it was scary going into them and from my experience he would help you make sense of the paper you wrote but you really have to know some aspects of the theories and know your paper really well to get the answer he's looking for and he also lets you know if you wrote some parts in the paper wrong but he's nice about it
i think just try to engage and interact in class and ask questions para he knows you bc the class has a lot of students and you might have a chance to get a higher grade since his grading was kind of questionable 😅 good luck hehemore

Hello!
I took him in the first sem of last school year for Philo13; it was an onsite class.
Generally, I'd say that he's an alright prof! Not a terror, pero he can be a little intimidating/scary.
I think you can get a solid B to B+ if you go through the readings well and have good chemistry with the people/person you work with. I would also describe him as a "no-nonsense" prof who likes papers to be straight-forward.
With regards to grading, he can be pretty strict.
Also, the final paper and orals (in my past experience with him) was a pairwork, so be sure to secure a good partner; for our class, he allowed us to choose partners.
Speaking of outputs, we had 4. Three of which were papers, and the last being orals.
The first paper was a short essay that was done by Triads that were randomly assigned.
The second paper was a reflection paper which was a solo-output.
The penultimate requirement was an analysis paper that was tied with Orals.
The Orals questions were essentially sir scrutinizing and questioning your dyad about the philosophy that was used; expect questions about the philosophy/philosophies itself, and questions about your dyad's usage of the philosophy. Be careful because he's known to essentially trick dyads! Confidence is key.
Best of luck if you take him!more

Hi! I was his beadle last school year :)) Sir Hermida was overall a nice & sweet prof and he would move deadlines when the class asks naman.
- He takes notes of attendance.
- try participating in discussions! he likes it when students are interacting with him :))
- Go to consultations (especially for group papers)
- There wasn’t much requirements except the 4 main papers. (He usually gives out sample papers from previous students)
Goodluck 🩷🩷more

Had him for ethics. All I can say is it was traumatizing huhu. He would always give low grades (as low as F) for our papers. There's a group paper for mid terms and our group were really referencing everything in the readings but we still got low grades and pretty harsh comments. The only time he was kind and generous to us was during our final orals. He gave my partner and I a B for trying so hard to cover everything.
The workload is not so much and that's scary especially since he is very particular on what you write in your paper. During discussions, he comes off as a kind and generous prof but don't let your guard down.
I cannot speak for everyone from my batch in his class but personally I wouldn't take him again if given a chance.more
