Just finished his class and I have quite a good impression of him Overall - Most will probably average a B in his class because he has certain standards but A-able if you know what you're doing and understand his style. Impossible to fail unless you choose not to show up to exams and finals Classes - he has a no gadgets policy so you need to take handwritten notes and print readings. He's strict on going out during class but if you ask nicely he'll allow you naman, you might have to leave your phone in the room though. Almost always has a ppt but he doesn't upload them and he says a lot of things not in the ppt so don't rely on them. He's quite funny and makes the topic relevant to current events, and he'll sometimes make controversial claims just to provoke some discussion. Quizzes - Before every module you'll have a reading quiz (short 15-20 min essay on a topic related to the reading). For these, you only need to pick and explain one of the provided statements. To get 4.0s, generally make sure you can restate the thesis statement in your own words, break down each of the concepts word by word, provide your own example illustrating the thesis statement in real life, then conclude by restating the thesis statement. 5 sentences is enough for this, no need to be super elaborate. Just be sure to not rely on the definitions and examples in the readings because those get you a low grade. Long Tests - there are 2 LTs that go over several modules each. Here, you have to provide an evaluation of the selected statement(s), either by answering the question or by stating whether you agree or disagree with the claim and why. Good practice is to give a quiz-like explanation first before proceeding to your evaluation. Thoroughly dissect all the concepts in the question/thesis statement then evaluate the strengths/weaknesses of the claim. It helps if you stick to one detailed example per question to maintain consistency rather than giving one separate example per concept or point. There's no wrong answer for the evaluation as long as your explanation is correct and arguments are logical and organized. Orals - LT but oral and question is random. He gives the statements in advance so just practice on each of them beforehand. The questions or thesis statements are also similar to the LT so they should be familiar by then. Repetitio - at the start of each class he'll randomly select a few students and ask them something about the last lecture. Questions are usually straightforward if you attended the lecture, but doable even if you didn't as long as you know someone who takes good notes. Some are objective, others are subjective, and for some he'll allow volunteers (take these as much as possible so you can cut without worry). He's a great prof and open to consultations and comments so you can receive more detailed feedback on your assignments. Take him if you want a decent grade and a fun class experience.more

For a more recent review as someone who took him this semester (epistemological track) I found his teaching style boring I am fine with the class not being interactive but he could have at least made the class interesting with his powerpoints and lecture but nope :(. LIKE SOBRANG BORING TALAGA EVEN THE ATTENTIVE STUDIOUS STUDENTS NAAANTOK SA KANYA. Also He does not really go in depth as far from the readings go so just read them and you pretty much know everything He does reading quizzes before the lecture and they are open notes (handwritten only) and they are okay naman but the thing is since after the reading quiz you pretty much have no use in attending the lectures because they really don't add anything much. His gradings are pretty normal for Philo standards, with the classic 4.0 grading system. He does 2 long tests and 2 oral exams (midterm and final) the 2 oral exams make up a huge chunk of your grade. I think he grades fairly not Philo terror prof but also not easy A. His feedbacks are the worst part about him since when gets back to you the reading quiz he just puts an underline and question mark on your statements like no actual comment on your work. He gave me a 2/4 on the lt on an essay with no feedback or anything so I don't know where I did wrong😔 Overall mid prof not the life-changing terror prof, also not an easy A. He is nice naman but boring Also he does not think Lebron is the goat so minus points🥀more

Also took him because he was one of the last profs available for Philo 11, but don't regret it at all! His lectures were really engaging and funny for a philo class, he would give jokes and anecdotes here and there to help you understand his point and thought process. That being said, his lectures require you to really read through the readings since he'll use the concepts and terms to help you better understand it. It's also a no gadgets class so you really have to take notes! He has a few rounds of recitation (2-3), but as long as you're done for that round, you wont get called again until the next one. Each round lasts 2-3 weeks! And as long as you remember the terms and concepts during his lectures, you'll be fine. It's a 4 point grading I would say he was pretty generous towards grading for quizzes and long tests (all of which are essays). As long as he sees that you understand and remember the terms, you'll be okay. Take notes of his comments since he has a formula for the essays :)) During his final orals, thesis statements are given in advanced and are really just explanation of terms and evaluate them. If you have a lot of time left, he'll also ask follow up questions which are okay as long as you read and studied. Class average was B/B+, but he's A-able with max effort!!more

definitely A-able with some level of effort! i'd personally say he's an easy B/B+ from what i remember when my section would share grades with eachother, but to get an A you have to be really good at explaining and putting your thoughts into words.more

so for his reading quizzes, its essay type. make sure to understand the readings. dont reiterate whats said but rather explain it as if the one who will be reading it has no prior knowledge of the said readings. tapos always focus on your argument, dont stray away from the topic. if u have an argument either u can have examples or u can put counter arguments what so ever. goodluck!!more

Had him for Philo 11, he was great his classes are somewhat easy to doze off (bel is hot af) but he usually has like little quizes on the readings and you can choose the questions anyways. I also had 1 lt and 2 orals. Hes grading is like a 1-4 scale, just relate to the qpi stuff. His orals we’re pretty fun for me personally, the questions he asked were really eye opening. Overall a good proof imo just listen well and familiarize yourself with the readingsmore

I had him for Philo 11.06 and he was a pretty chill professor. Sometimes discussions got boring but the readings he gave were pretty interesting naman. In terms of assessments we usually had quizzes then midterms and finals were both oral exams. He grades pretty generously in midterms and finals (or maybe I just yapped alot) and his quizzes were okay sa grading. All quizzes and finals and midterms were out of 4 pointsmore

Took him because nothing else was free, don't regret it. Quite chill despite a stern first impression, if you like his humor the class will be very entertaining. Online classes can be boring sometimes but onsite is generally engaging. Unlike past reviews, he used a PPT for every class and gives solid feedback on quizzes if you ask for it. He can be a bit harsh on the first few quizzes, but has group activities where you can earn bonus points on your quizzes (and on a 1-4 grading scale, 1 point is massive). He grades more leniently for LTs and orals, and you can pick the questions to answer for the LT and quizzes. Orals thesis statements given in advance. A-able if you can catch onto how to construct logical philosophical arguments or are good with essays. Even if writing isn't your forte, B/B+ is very much doable as long as you don't miss any requirements. Maybe not the best Philo 11 prof but a very good second option!more

sir lismoras used to be my philo prof in a diff school 3 years ago (this was in shs), i think he might be new to teaching in ateneo! from my experience, he explains concepts really well. like he makes them way easier to understand, and he's really passionate abt it! he'd make a few jokes here and there. for grades he was very generous naman and the workload wasnt that heavy. not sure how he is now as a college professor but id say youre in good hands!more

taking his class rn overall - not an easy a! he def has standards but he doesn’t grade extremely low (highest i got was 3.5 in his quizzes) lectures - sometimes doesn’t use ppt and he doesn’t upload ppts! take notes during class readings - a lot! its philo so u’d expect that. but he just provides specific ranges for the readings. quiz - easy to answer but not always sure about the grade! as long as u read for sure u can answer them (+ open notes!) exams - mostly essay. he grades the same way here. he gives the entire period naman so take ur time to answer and make sure you’re providing points from reading and irl orals - very chill but he expects you to speak in english throughout! (no taglish/tagalog)more

He was my shs philo prof so my review won’t be accurate esp since he transferred na pala to college philo pero it can give u a glimpse of what to expect from him! 😁 1. Didn’t allow gadgets for notes so we had to take notes the traditional way. We submitted the notebook din by the end of the sem. Might make you do Cornell notes din pero not sure abt that since I js based off of other philo profs 2. His quizzes were easy lang. very textbook so if u know and understand the topic well, I think u can get a good score sa quizzes niya. Quizzes were done online but also onsite. 3. Really good at breaking down the topic but sometimes he oversimplifies it too much bc our departmental exams were more complex than what he taught us so most of us found the exam difficult 😵💫 4. Usual socratic method so expect lengthy recitations if u get called 😁. Also likes to create debates in class so expect some chaos na rin Overall great prof but js note na he was my shs philo prof so most likely he’ll be stricter and have higher standards for college students!
