Take Navarra for SOCSC 12 if you will do the readings and boards, recite, and write current issues into outputs, and you can live with a high A cutoff. Lean away if you need a 92 A or a light core. One writeup only, so this is context_dependent, not take. Most registrar teaching is graduate research and methods, which this comment does not describe.

doc melis remains to be one of the best profs ive met! she has a reputation for how she teaches, but i think that’s more a matter of taste. i enjoyed my time in her course and my appreciation of contemporary issues has matured and situated in my context as a Filipino. you might have an easier time with other instructors, but you would be missing out on what’s arguably a very insightful course on sociology. she’s changed the way i look at the world and i guarantee that you will realize the same if you just put in the work and the effort to meaningfully engage with the materials and her insights as a prominent social worker with decades of experience. isa has done a great job at picturing what taking the course will demand from you but i hope that writing this will offer you excitement on what’s going to be a great time instead of stories that would make you less open to what the course and doc melis have to offer. her course is a good A and she’s a great instructor. one last thing to add, she’s very open to consultations (just message her) and she is more than willing to adjust the course depending on everyone’s needs. i had an event to attend to outside manila which coincided with a presentation i had for her class. she allowed me to present it online with the permission of the whole class:) i hope you enjoy learning under her more than i did!:D took her sy 2324 first semmore

Yes what they said was pretty much accurate. Very boring discussions niya plus napaka-strict sa deadlines. Medyo naiirita rin siya at times idk why. So may dalawa siyang teaching methods: (1) siya magtuturo ng concept and (2) through reporting. Kapag (1) laging nagsasalita lang siya sa sarili tapos sobrang boring wala talagang student engagement whatsoever. Doon naman sa (2), I felt like it was an easy way out since hindi naman siya nagtuturo + basically kami na bahala sa mga buhay namin. Kakaunti lang requirements niya, pero napaka-stressful ng class niya I swear. It felt like I was on the constant verge of may ipapasa ba kasi sobrang sabog talaga ng klase. Pro lang dito eh mataas siya magbigay ng grade, pero other than that, good luck nalang talaga sa klase niyo sa kaniya.more

hello! took her onsite this sem and i will say she is vv A-able, as long as you: - have great groupmates (she’s very keen on group work) - participate !!!! - do all DBs (she closes them at 9pm lol so make sure u do these on time otherwise sayang kasi kahit late di ka makakapost ng sagot) u only have paper throughout the sem so u have to make it count since it’s 25% of ur final grade. her cuts system is a bit weird tbh cause we would meet a lot but only had 3 cuts. based on my experience, she’s really easy to talk to and tbh grades high (it’s a bonus that i had great groupmates) kaya vv doable ung A (and yeah it is a 95 :<)more

Reading seminar basically grp reporting onsite based on the reading she’ll assign. B+ with massive effort, barely teaches. if you can get another prof, do it :") made sure to recite a lot and put a lot of effort sa reports and discussion boards and only got a B+. even changes your grade after she already gave it to you which is mega weird. personally, super surface level lang insights niya sa mga reports so idk why her standards are so high. didn't learn anything from her 👍more

she's nice naman and she's giving motherly vibes. but her online classes are boring. lots of readings + group presentations + few discussion boards due within the day. i'd say easy B! A with A LOT of effort (her A is 95)😎 tip: let her know u exist in her class and always recite during class discussions!!! cc: 🤣more

had her online for socsc 12 last sem! a lot of readings, discussion boards, and group presentations. iirc, we also had one paper at the beginning of the sem. she grades okay naman, just make sure to integrate current social issues sa outputs niyo. recite a lot too bc it helps that she knows you. take note din that her grading system for an A is 95-100, compared to the usual 92-100. B+ with lots of effort 😬more

no 😒 when i took her, she barely taught, and it was like she was allergic to giving grades higher than B+. there was even one time, she released grades for this one groupwork we had and then a few hours later she POSTED A LOWER GRADE THAN SHE ORIGINALLY POSTED and this was not only my grade, but for grades across different, if not all, groups. i hope she changed because this was two years ago but if not...goodluck. was also pissed because she would only ask surface level questions regarding our reports and then proceed to give us a low grademore

helloooo she was an easy A. I loved her class actually hahaha I think one the key things to getting an A was having good groupmates (since assignments were mostly group based) and consulting with her. she graded relatively high for my block.more

Hiii! Took doc mel last sem lang (even beadled for her) and i would say A with effort! Based from my experience she was a good prof 🥹. She was considerate whenever we would ask to have classes online (she would just tell me to let the class vote, and if more than half says yes, we’ll shift to online) No quizzes, mostly dbs or papers but theyre doable nmn (she gives asynch sessions for you to do them). Then you have a few grpworks: 2 vides (iirc), reading seminar + interlocutionmore
