A-able if you actually practice vocabs and pinyin

took her during 1st semester! as someone with chinese background, it's very much A-able if you don't just treat it like a free A. actually practice the vocabs and the pinyin spelling, take note of the different grammatical structures she highlights in class, and participate when you can. i got away with zoning out or using my phone for a couple sessions, but i don't recommend doing that all the time since sometimes she gives genuinely useful advice. her lectures were honestly very fun! if i was a complete beginner to the language, i think i would have learned a lot from her. the tests are mostly in the second part of the sem, so i recommend practicing when you have spare time, even if it looks like the test is far away. you'll be asked to write a paper for a chinese research conference thing and this part scared me tbh but you can legit write about ANYTHING connected to china or the chinese. as long as you put effort into the paper and submit something you genuinely put work into, you are likely to get a high grade for it (i got a 100 on a paper about genshin impact LOL). we were allowed to do the paper in groups of 2 or 3, so i recomend signing up with a friend to make your life easier :)) best of luck and have fun!more

took her for intersession last year (sy 24-25) and she really is so great!! super accommodating to those with 0 background... might be stricter to those with 😅 regardless, mandarin is hard as is and the pacing is quite fast because it's intersession... so you really need to put in the work if you're starting from no background! def A-able with effort 🙂↕️🙂↕️ altho i thought she retired na since she mentioned that we'll be her last batch :0more

She comes off as strict but she’s very fair! Easy to pass if you take her seriously and actually study. She gives handouts and is actually quite understanding of students. She also takes note of your effort or if she sees you genuinely trying/improving! Loved her as a prof because she’s quick, engaging, and even if a bit scary at the start, you def learn something.more

more of she doesn’t really expect you to be there since the course is for students with absolute 0 background, but she knows people go there for the A so during our sem, those with background didnt have to take finals and they just made a film. I guess strict wasnt the word maybe more of she has higher expectations since you have background. hope it helps!more
