Passionate teacher, you're guaranteed to learn and think critically. Took him on my first sem and I'd still say his class is very requirement-heavy. He grades well, but still, good luck!more

had him last year for engl 11. he likes to go on a rant about how much he hates intro body and conclusion but honestly, it's noy a big deal. very B+/A-able. do your perusalls tho bc they can make a difference (i think)! i kinda slacked off on that and got a B+ oh and make sure to read his comments and take note of them. he's very easy to take too and wokatron 9000 which is a plus on my book.more

had him for engl 11 this sem! grading-wise he's okay, he usually doesnt give anything below ~70 for process activities and 80 for the major tasks. don't expect a perfect score though he rarely gives them (i only got perfect once). comments will make you question what you did wrong in your past life to be put in his class HAHAHAHAH deadline-wise he's also pretty considerate and he reopens the submission portal once he's done grading on-time submissions. got around 95 for both my major task submissions! i recommend asking him for feedback if you can because it really helps with figuring out what he wants from the essays lol he's also very particular with topics and rejects a lot of them. good luckmore

if i'll be honest, sometimes i don't understand what he's looking for in his comments + the way he grades surprised me bc the amount of comments he gives doesn't reflect the grades he gives you (i guess he just gives you a lot of critique but if you give a good amount of output he grades high naman) kaya i was surprised to get a B+ in his class after all that confusion HAHAHAHAH so for example, most of the time i assumed i would get a C from the number of comments he gave but ended up with a B+/B instead (i think all of my assignments were mostly B+ and Bs) not sure if it helps but ig all you need to know is he just happens to have a lot of critique to further improve your work, but he doesn't necessarily grade you low for not meeting his standards (you could just end up with a high grade kahit andami niyang hinahanap 😭)more

For the sake of your mental health, run ❤️‍🩹 But in all seriousness, the work load is very heavy (ENGL 11). Presentations are done almost weekly. His feedbacks on works make you want to never want to write again (his favorites being "??" and "i think i'm having a stroke while reading this/ you sound like you have a stroke"/ anything stroke related) I think with effort, he's a A/B+. He's very understanding when it comes to attendance (especially if health reasons). I was so burnt out during my freshman year because of his class. ++ deadlines for outlines are super duper short (only given a 2-3 days to work) ++ LOTS OF PERUSALS AND DBsmore

there is a difference between giving fair criticism about what could be improved and blatant disrespect he knows his stuff and is passionate about it but he comes off as condescending one time he complained to the class about being behind the schedule but majority of the classes were spent on him nitpicking presentations rather the presentation themselvesmore

Pasting here my review in another post! Had his class intersession (2024-25) PROS: He's honestly a really good prof, clearly very knowledgeable and passionate abt the course which is really good since it makes the class feel worthwhile and my tuition feel well spent (which is v important to me lol) His discussions are interesting, and he gives relevant examples to help u further understand the concepts he's discussing. The modules on canvas are also well organized and detailed. He is open to consultations, and tbh if you consult with him a lot, you will really learn more. His insights are helpful especially in major projects, and if you feel lost with your output he kinda nudges you in the right direction which i really appreciate. The class itself is really fun and he makes the discussions kinda like an english class from high school, where you can give insights back and forth about stories and narratives you know. it was really fun for me cause I enjoy that kind of class. CONS: The requirements are really heavy. For intersession, we had a requirement around 4 out of 5 days a week (from a daily class). On top of that, class participation is recorded not based on your recitation but on discussion boards on Canvas, so it adds to the workload. He also really likes perusall for the readings, so you'll have to annotate for some outputs. Sir gives time in class to accomplish the outputs, but it isn't really enough. Most of them are by group by the way. As for grading, to be honest if you consult a lot (and i mean a lot) and apply what you find in the modules and readings to the outputs, you'll be fine. Don't doze off in class or do something else other than participate or listen to the lecture because u will get lost. Kind of critical with grading but definitely A-able! Overall, I really liked this prof, I initially thought he wasn't good based on the reviews here but I was proven wrong thankfully! I like when a prof is passionate about what they are teaching, approachable, and clearly wants their students to learn. Requirements and workload aside, good prof :))more

Ngl I’m seeing a lot of hate for ESTIPONA, Michael Ian but he wasn’t horrible ok AHAHAHA so here’s my review: • Expect a heavy workload - I took ENE. We had 1 padlet and 2-3 perusall readings per module and then exit/entry tickets but those are for class participation. We also had a group activity every now and then. This is most of what the hate is about which is fair. It was pretty annoying. The only pro is that we never took any quizzes for anything. It was all output-based • Teaching quality - He’s very good at teaching. He’s well-spoken and can convey the concepts he’s teaching in a way that is easy to understand. He’s also open to questions and encourages class participation. His module tabs are also very thorough in case you miss a session or are just not the type to take notes in class • Grading - He doesn’t grade low but he rarely gives perfect scores. I would say you could get an A if you really tried but an average student would get a B or B+ • Personality - sir’s really nice and, despite what his workload may imply, is considerate of students. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him angry, just stressed out In conclusion, would I have him as my first choice prof for ENLIT or ENE? No. But he’s not a bad prof to have eithermore
