Thoughts from a philo major. Contrary to popular belief, he’s really a great teacher. He’s passionate and he knows what he’s talking about. I got a B in his class with maximum effort of course. But here’s some tips regardless if you want to keep your sanity; 1. Read. Prepare to read. Skehan will give you a lot of readings, so I suggest cultivate better reading endurance, especially for the first modules. Also, don’t take his discussions for granted, they actually summarized the lessons very clearly in two to three discussion boards. (Pero bhiee du-dugo parin ilong mo) 2. Listen intently in his class, he substantiates the readings more through class discussions (usually what he says in class is what you can apply in projects and the quizzes 3. Have a great study-group or just a good group of friends kn general. Helps in exams and class engagement as you get to encourage each other. 4. Don’t hesitate to approach him if you need any help. Sir is very nice and helpful. He doesn’t judge and will actually tell you what and how to improve in quizzes, papers etc. 5. Get ready for over-flowered words in class and canvas discussion. So I suggest, listening intently. Overall, a great teacher. A bit confusing at times but his knowledge and the way he discusses motivates you to learn more in his class.more

Disclaimer: This was back in 2019 Had him for Philo 22 (Aesthetics). He was the hardest prof I ever took in college as a philo major, and has to be my lowest point also. His readings were difficult (Kant, Hegel, Heidegger, etc.) and I found his lectures difficult to follow that I was so lost during his classes. His exams were also difficult because the choices all seem to be correct, with only a few minute differences that you have to catch. The choices are written in a rather convoluted manner, which adds to the difficulty, especially if you are an overthinker like I am. I got low scores for his exams mostly because I kept second guessing myself and changing my answers, only to find out I was right the first time. On top of this, a single point in our exams was equal to a point in our final grade, since each exam had 20 points and constituted 20% of our grade (we had 3 exams). I remember sometimes studying for 3 whole days for his exams only to barely get a C (~13/20) in each of them, or maybe C+ when I got lucky with my guesses. I got a C as my final grade and I had to work harder for it than most of the B+s I got throughout college. Good luck!more

Despite the fact that his standards r pretty hard to figure out, i nonetheless found dr mark quite entertaining, he made ethics interesting with his white man humor 🙏🏼 i understood the topics more with his funny real life examples. Just read his ppts well and take note of the things hes saying in his lectures to survive the quizzes (multiple choice btw 🤞🏽) specifically the quiz on Kant and Aristotle, and the final group proj. However, the Mill quiz was smth else and definitely required more than just reading the ppt 😔. Overall, i would say this class is B-B+ able, A-able with A LOT of effort and actually reading 😭. There r definitely easier ethics profs out there but if you end up with dr mark, dont fret too much, i still learnt a lot from him and was rly entertained bc hes quite a personality and esp as someone interested in philo in general :))more

HAHSHSHSSHSHSH gud times Honestly, he's a great prof if you're taking a masters in philosophy...but since none of us here are HAHSHSHSSH it is definitely a challenge. On my end tho, i found his readings ok. Just be consistent and always read and ask questions. Take notes as well from lectures when you can as they sometimes come up in quizzes. For the final project, work early and consistently. Schedule consultations as often as possible and send drafts when you can to sir – he is harsh with his feedback but they are valuable insights that honestly help you be more critical. Overall, I think he is overhated but you really have to give a good effort and read read read. You can learn a lot of things from him, much much better than an easy grade prof who you don't learn much from.more

But, given enough benefits of the doubt, you will probably gain some insight into whatever they're discussing. C+/B with maximal effort.more

pls run. char. had him for my philo 22 class and he was the hardest prof i ever took for that sem. his readings were difficult to understand, not to mention his lectures were also difficult bc of the language barrier (as he was irish). lectures tend to drone on and on and circle about. his assessments were as difficult too. no orals, but multiple choice with choices as confusing as the others. this takes a huge chunk of the grade, so it's imperative that u pass both of the assessments that he gives. he gave us a grp work for finals din. he's very nitpicky abt it, if i say so. overall, he's a not-so-easy B.more

I can fully say that kung tamad ka magbasa, please run for your f*ng life. This is not for the weak-willed. Listen but it won’t be easy to understand. If you think philosophy is hard, you will meet another level of difficult. Please read and DO NOT OVERTHINK UR ANSWERS. The slides itself are long. However, it will be good if you have a group to discuss with. With that in mind, I did pick up a thing or two or even pondered about how I perceived ethical decisions (differences between Aristotle, Mill and Kant). That would be helpful in the presentations Overall, I am deadass scared for my grade. Godspeed (Battle wounds 😭😭)more

I’m a philo major and I had a difficult time understanding his synch sessions. Even though we read the readings and we thought we understood the topic, he still says that our answers are lacking. Me and my group mates were always discussing our answers to help each other out but we still got low to average scores. The frustrating thing about his feedback is that he focused on correcting our grammar and sentence construction rather than the content itself 😔 so we didn’t really know how to improve our papersmore
