Take her for Fil 11 / FILI 12 if you are already decent in Filipino, will read the syllabus and the texts, will consult, and can live with a strict, meticulous classroom. The kept grade path is fair and bonus-friendly with a high numeric A bar. Lean away if you need a low-affect lecturer or freeze when a prof is intimidating — those are the hard-pass reasons in this set, not empty teaching. Do not use this dossier to pick PNTKN 119.2 or FILI 14.

G’day! Had her for Fili 12 last sem and tbh, her class is very A-able with some effort. Here are some of my insights.
Let’s start with her tests. Her quizzes follow the identification, true or false, and chronological ordering format consisting of around 15-20 questions. These questions are simple enough that they can be answered by just reading whatever the test is about once (i.e. reading x or reading y); familiarizing yourself with the readings will drastically boost your chances at acing her quizzes.
Her long tests are similar following the same format (identification, true or false, and chronological ordering) and can range to about 75-80 questions with bonus questions at the end. Again, these tests are easy to pass (just make sure you read the readings at least once); like the quizzes, familiarizing yourself with the readings will drastically boost your chances at acing the LTs.
Now let’s talk homeworks/projects. She is VERY strict with deadlines and will give 0 to people who submit late (I got 0 before trust me). Furthermore, she’s extremely adamant at NOT giving considerations towards late submitters. In short, respect her deadlines and you’ll be fine.
Her grading of homeworks/projects are pretty straightforward, submit something good > get good grades. She is very easy to consult with and gives great feedback/advice so don’t be afraid to talk to her. Lastly, it is to be noted that she enforces the “Gabay Stylebook” for her literary outputs so follow that stylebook and you won’t get any minor deductions.
Now for some insights regarding class sessions. She DOES NOT allow people to go the toilet during her class time; to compensate, she gives a 15 min grace period before officially starting class, which serves as the time to use the toilet. Her voice is EXTREMELY soft especially if your class is in Berchmann, so I recommend sitting close and keeping quiet (try not to fall asleep too). It is important to bring a printed copy of your assigned readings, failure to do so will result in you getting kicked out of the class (trust me bro).
All in all, she’s a kind but firm prof who grades fairly. You can pass with a B or B+ by doing the bare minimum.more

had her for fili 12 during first sem! at first she can be quite intimidating especially since she’s quite strict with the syllabus and follows it. she gave us a quiz about the syllabus after a few days. her quizzes are mostly identification and tama o mali.
i suggest to read the readings before the discussion so you won’t get lost throughout the lesson. we also had 2 LTs, and both had around 5-10 (?) bonus points if you answer it correctly. don’t worry if it’s wrong, she won’t deduct your overall score naman. she also gave a bonus quiz for us before the finals.
since our class was in berchman, it was hot + super hina ng voice niya 😭 sometimes you’d feel like not listening na lang but i promise her lessons and discussions are really insightful and helpful when you take quizzes/LTs!
our final task was to either a) create a resto and write the menu (the foods should be based from the readings) with their prices or b) create a vlog/trip brochure for a guide to the restos in the philippines then explain the whole trip with how much time you’ll spend there (?). this was a groupwork so choose your groupmates wisely! got good groupmates naman so naka A kami 🫡 (cc )
tl;dr: she’s A-able since she gives a lot of bonus points and is very open for consultation (follow her advice/comments) pero it can be hard as well kasi her A is like 97-100 yata (?). just make sure to read the readings beforehand, get a high score with the LTs, give it your all for the groupwork + get good groupmates, and listen to her discussions even if it’s sometimes boring 😔more

Oris' midterms and finals are actually very easy. No essay, all very high school-ish. Sila pa nga yung manghahatak sa grade mo hahaha.
I actually love Ma'am Oris: she knows what she's saying, very knowledgeable, grades quite high (I got a B+ for the final grade, even though our group crammed our 30-point 50-paged paper in one night).
There are three downsides to her: 1) she gives papers suuuuuper late as in suuuper talaga. The reason why we actually crammed the paper is bec she only gave back our drafts at 4pm the day before, and the paper was due 8 or 9 am the following day; 2) she's heavy with the favoritism, and if she hates you, she hates you, and will try to find fault in you the whole sem; and 3) she's super strict (she doesn't want people just going out without permission)
However, all in all, I had fun with Ma'am Oris. If you have no choice but to take her (since you're batch 2 hehe), just remember, she isn't as bad as students say she is. :)
TL;DR: She's a batch 2 prof and your QPI won't be murdered by her exams and quizzes so long as you read the readings and pay attention to what she says in class. What may be murdered are your sleep cycle and self-esteem (if she hates you) :)more

Fortez was an easy A coz I stacked up on recitation points and I did my essays well, but I suppose it will be more difficult for you since you'll need to critically analyze the poems and stuff the class discusses in order to get those juicy recitation points, and you already pointed out that you're not good in Filipino. Yeah she was! She scared the bejeezus out of me and I was always terrified in that class. She’s really smart though and she’ll help you with your research paper if you ask politely after class or if you schedule a consultation with her. IDK if it was just because of the intersession na she taught but she was def not as bad as they said she was?? She was so generous with bonus points and curving??? like naging A-able because of all the bonus points for quizzes/LTs. I remember LTs being pretty objective and kaya even if someone like me sucks at Filipino. Biggest downside would probably be strictness within class (u can't go to the bathroom she hates it) but tbh it's just like having an HS teacher who doesn't like you talking in class so it's nothing too out of the ordinarymore

Not very generous with grades but will move deadlines a lot (a blessing at first but can be a huge inconvenience when done too many times rip). On good days she can be kind and she can be funny too, but the bad days are BAD so try not to piss her off then. She usually does class group works and if you aren't in class then you don't get a grade :-)))) So though it's incredibly tempting, try as much as possible to be present.more

Curves and moves deadlines but her tests are hard especially for someone who's not good at speaking Filipino. Beware, she gets moody a lot.
