Take Sanchez if you will work the modules yourself, can speak a short oral synthesis, and want a professor described as accommodating on deadlines and modality. pero on a more detailed pov... hi! was her beadle just this last sem and i will say that if ur target is an A, ure in for a treat (not a piece of cake for sure) - she has no separate class record; accdg to her, your canvas grade is your ACTUAL GRADE. tried testing this by plugging in the percentages in a spreadsheet and to my surprise, accurate talaga (lowkey this made me crash out during finals week kasi she returned the score for my orals and it was a decimal point away from a B+ so i was worried that i would just get a B but she kinda rounded it up to a B+ without me begging LOL) - u will have weekly perusalls which cost 1 point each; no criteria for getting that point aside from just answering them on time (u may think na u can just ignore this but no, these count as ur class participation and for the whole sem, there were 21 activities that were "just" 1 point each but collectively, these account for 15% of your grade so think of that one point as a half or 2/3 point towards ur final grade (yep it matters a lot) - no written quizzes during class and we didnt have a midterm exam at all but we did have "pagsasanay" after every two modules which will ask u to make a paper about 2 topics per module that u will pick and kinda try to summarize and give ur views towards (afaik each of these will account for 15 or 20 percent of ur grade so vv important too) - finals for theo class alone (yep there's another output paired with nstp) is PURELY ORAL; same concept with the bi-modular assessments but this time, u choose one topic per module and u gotta expound on all four within just seven minutes (she will ask follow ups after within a three minute window) - there is this component called the BURADOR which is technically just a draft of what's gonna be ur theo-nstp presentation and this draft alone is equal to 10 percent of your final grade; we thought that she would grade generously for this component since she said that for as long there's something in the draft, we'll be fine but we were shocked bcoz she graded lower than we expected so auto -5 for my group already sa final grade just for getting 20/36 so try to figure out what she rlly wants for this burador bcoz this is gonna be ur make or break on whether u will get an A or not - politically progressive which should be a bare minimum and teaches liberation theology so yes, dont expect her to ask u to bring a bible bcoz she wont; she recognizes the role of the church in oppression so this should be a plus - responds late to emails! as beadle, i would always ask ahead of time if we could shift modality but most of the time she would reply right before class and sasabihin nyang nasa classroom na daw siya so too late na 💀 all in all, easy C+/B for as long as u dont flunk it; a B+ would mean she recognizes ur authenticity but she wants more; an A means she considers u as her level (aka anhirap talaga) best of luck parin,!more

Ma'am Rae is one of the most interesting profs in a positive way!
— BEADLE: As her beadle, communication with her is okay naman, it's just that it takes time for her to respond. She is lenient when it comes to asking for extensions, but make sure to not abuse that leniency.
— TEACHING STYLE: The way she taught is a bit monotonous, but I believe it is because she wants us to self study using the modules in canvas and onsite classes are just for her to expound and discussion further, so I suggest you skim around on the modules she posted cuz she'll ask the class if anyone had reached to a certain point in a particular module. She welcomes questions before and after the class.
— LANGUAGE: At first, I was scared about it, but it's alright for Ma'am to go full English but she emphasizes the importance of using Filipino as it is a common language to be used in nstp immersion. I was scared she will judge my Filipino skills, but surprisingly no (with minor corrections that doesn't impact my grade).
— REQUIREMENTS: discussion boards, annotations, quizzes, and group presentaton (final requirement).
—— Quizzes: they carry significant weight to your grade, and the way you'll answer is like how you answer the ones with thesis statements in oral/written exams in previous theo class. What's good here is your lowest quiz score will not be included sa total, so if you have low score during the 1st one, pwede ka pa bumawi sa future quizzes :>
—— Finals: group presentation, thus make sure you get good groupmates (note: groups are based on the nstp areas u'll immerse in) and put your best efforts to them as they can pull your grade up or down. Consult to her as much as you can because her comments HELP A LOT ^^
- GRADING: she is strict when it comes to grading, especially in quizzes. She wants cohesiveness, especially in group presentation, as, if she spots something inconsistent, she will question it.
Overall, I recommend her!! She is one of my best profs despite how hard the subject is, and I always look forward to her class despite how hot the weather is (afternoon ung klase namin T_T). She is a sweet, kind prof frrr :DDmore

Hello! Had her for Theo 12 last year ^__^
I dreaded the class at first since it’s in Filipino, but she made the class fun :)) iirc it’s okay to use some English here and then, but y’know, just don’t use straight up Taglish. We met 2x a week, but one day was our onsite and the other an asynch — not sure if this’ll apply for the fully onsite mode anymore though.
The general gist of our classes is that modules are mostly self-study and she’ll expound on some things not understood in class. Every onsite meet, we do an activity wherein you work with your group on answering these set of questionnaires (I remember questions were like, “what’s the most important thing you learned in the module,” “how can you apply this in your daily life” etc.) and she’ll spin the wheel as for which group’ll explain their answers in class.
Her requirements at the end of each module was usually a quiz, along with some discussion boards or annotation. +++What I love about ma’am is that she really cares about her students! I once forgot to answer a db that was due and she messaged me in the morning about it, and gave me a chance to answer it within the day; she gave these chances to my other course mates who forgot some reqs din. She gave me no deductions for it, pero y’know, don’t abuse this ofc hehe
Not sure if this part will apply parin, pero after a certain number of modules, you guys get a rest day in class:)) you’re still required to attend the class, but essentially you just check on each other and you can leave early if you like! Also, she checks attendance daily so don’t lose track of your cuts if ever.
Overall, I recommend her! A good and sweet prof, who made my morning class start on a good note ❤️more

Workload is sakto lang for me despite having a heavy sem back then. I got B+ with no extra-ordinary effort for the quizzes (mostly got 6/10), but what makes my grades pull up are the final requirements, so if u want an A, u need to exert more effort especially sa finalsmore

i personally enjoyed maam rae! although i mistakenly enlisted in her class thinking it was in english (it was in fili), she’s very lenient about the language as long as you put in the effort + recite
a lot of her assignments are actually optional, except for 2 reflection papers (summarizing and reflecting on two modules afaik) and a group final presentation on nstp. it’s usually done over perusall too so it’s more so an annotation activity and discussing your insights/comments!
i do think she has fairy high standards but for me, i think it’s reasonable! she’s vv approachable imo. i got an a in her class (though i did put reasonable effort in her class, I wouldn’t say it’s maximum capacity) so if you need any tips, lmk 💓more

ma'am rae is ok! but i agree that she has really high standards esp when it comes to the reflection papers. during lectures, she expects that you read and gone through the modules already but its okay if you haven't tho she lectures kinda like a post-processing session of those modules 🥲
we had one oral exam (finals) and honestly it was intimidating to me because we weren't provided with any thesis statements but you have to include at least 2 topics from any 1-3 modules (iirc!) ++ closed notes. she also asks lots of questions if ever you still have time left in your slot (so just yap until the time runs out)
for the nstp presentation, as i mentioned nga, she asks a lot of questions parang ginigisa kayo HAHAHAHmore

Important tip: Arrange consultations with her and incorporate the discussions sa papers and orals! She's very open to that as long as you message her and have someone with you during consultation. I did this for my 2nd paper and orals and ended up with a B+ overall (even if I got a C in my first paper because I just wrote whatever, so consultation is key talaga be it via zoom, email, or f2f).
Also, by consult, what I mean is you really have to take your time consulting and asking questions like 'Maam, am I on the right path?', ask what she thinks of your outline, etc. I know some of my friends who consulted but said it didn't help and when I asked them, their consultation only lasted below 10 minutes. So, make sure na sulitin yung consultation and to ask the right questions.
Another important tip: make sure to answer the discussion boards (+perusall activities) kahit 1 point lang sila because they're easy and once combined, they can pull up your grade. Answering those helped me a lot fr.
She loves giving the class minor activities such as making a random group to discuss topics, using the Whiteboard app, etc. Those aren't graded naman, it's just a way to ensure the class is understanding the lesson. She's a great prof and I love her and I'd pick her again. She teaches in Tagalog tho so if you pick her, you're ok basta proficient so you can understand what she's saying. A pro is that she accepts English in papers and orals. Overall, it's a chill class, just make sure to put in effort when writing your papers, preparing for orals, and NSTP because there will be a group presentation about it.more

took doc sanchez last year! as a prof, she's very accommodating and lenient with deadlines and unexpected circumstances (ex. class suspensions, switching to online class, etc.) but overall, i actually have mixed feelings about her class 😅
for requirements, iirc we only have 5:
- 1 discussion board per module
- 2 papers (one for the first half of the modules and one for the second half)
- 1 group presentation (related to the nstp immersion). your group will be based on who your groupmates are in the immersion
- individual orals for finals where, in my case before, she asked us to pick one topic per module and provide a synthesis/reflection in no more than 7 minutes... i believe, it's up to us naman how we want to structure everything
for lectures:
the modules are already posted at the beginning of the sem, and i would say it's medyo self-study talaga, but her discussions in class naman are related to what's posted on canvas, but she doesn't really follow the structure (?) i would say
in general, she is heavy on application. she really wants you to provide insights that are based on your own experiences, and how you relate these to the modules and discussions. she teaches in filipino btw! but she allows writing in english din naman
overall, i would say she's B/B+ able with effort, maybe even an A but with extra extra effort 🥹 personally worked so hard on her subj but only got a B+ HWHAHAHAH but it's okay!more

took her last semester. i’d say a B+/B is doable with minimal effort. she posts all her materials ahead of time, so expect to do a lot of self-studying since she doesn't really teach during class. she rarely does online classes.
for grading: quizzes are easy (i think you get multiple attempts), and she posts oral exam questions beforehand. discussion boards/perusall activities are also easy. just make sure to do really well overall the essays and participate in class to bump your grade up. overall, would recommend if you want an easy theo class.more

personally have mixed feelings about her as a prof kasi her lessons are okay and she has progressive ideas, pero as mentioned by the other commenter, sobrang harsh niya mag grade 😥 i don't think anyone got an A in my class, the highest would be B+. my classmates and i had a hard time trying to decipher what she wanted to see in our essay outputs, so make sure to consult talaga and ask all the questions you can think of. also regarding the group presentation burador (which the previous commenter mention as well) make sure it's as detailed as possible!!! the timeframe given to us to accomplish the draft was so brief and we expected na outline lang talaga needed, but she really wants the entire bulk of the presentation content to be there so just take note of that. every single assessment and perusall assignment mattersmore

Literally the most important thing in her class tlga,, READ THE RUBRICS. After i got lines of 8 in my essays (Pagsasanay), I realized how bad I had to lock in. My main problem was not hitting the rubric as she wanted it. For the final presentation draft, her rubric is essentially a checklist, so fill it out like an info dump; do the visuals later. Js make sure everything on the checklist is done (i thought i did but i still missed 4 things 😭). For the final Theo-NSTP presentation and final oral exam, lock in on understanding the rubric AKA course learning outcome. The course learning outcomes are primarily guided by the pastoral cycle, so just show that u dont js understand the concepts themselves, but show your personal "character arc" through the pastoral cycle. Be genuine about it tho. Sincerely try to go through the process of experiencing, analyzing, and reflecting. If nothing changed in u after this course, it might be a you problem 😭 I got pulled up to an A js by completely locking in on the oral exam and hitting every rubric; the oral exam is your make or break at the end. She's a great prof imo and i feel i grew a lot thanks to her,, js be open and view it as an opportunity (even if it will feel more like a war by the end). Good luck!!more

took maam rae last sem! my main advice is try memorizing your spiel for the orals in advance, you can very well do it impromptu naman but it’s good to know what you want to say in advance! if same parin ung instructions as last sem, she will ask you to pick one topic per module then synthesize it into one whole discussion
as for her questions, they’re either really simple or very nitpicky! she usually asks questions based on what you say naman and nothing too beyond that ^^ do try to cover the themes as extensively already in your spiel— and make sure you know what you’re saying in the event she asks you to explain a certain concept more extensively
the questions she asks are also to help deepen what you’ve already discussed in ur spiel so def take advantage of that!!more
