Take Sarmiento for SOCSC 12 / 13 if you will read long assignments, sit through lectures you may find slow, and sit frequent quizzes — one writeup still got an A with moderate effort and little recitation. Lean away if you need a considerate, easy-test core or cannot stay awake through lecture. Sample is three writeups that already disagree, so this is context_dependent rather than lean_take or lean_avoid.

demeanor-wise, along with what others have said, i agree that she's very motherly! as part of your participation grade, she schedules "kamustahan/chika" sessions where you're free to just yap about the lessons or ask any questions. she says it's also meant to help prepare you for the midterms, which i found really helpful. (bonus: she always brings snacks haha.)
her lectures were fine naman. i've seen reviews saying she's a bit messy, but personally, i still learned a lot as long as i paid attention. i think people say that because her voice can be a bit soft or she sometimes goes on tangents, but i honestly think that's because the topics in ss12 are interconnected and require a lot of context. the tangents usually still relate to the lesson, so i never found them distracting.
i also liked her slides. they summarize all the essential points from the readings, and she gives plenty of real-world examples to make the concepts easier to understand. personally, i did well on her tests just by studying the slides, but she also provides the PDFs of all the readings. i'd still recommend reading them—because they help you understand the topics more deeply. [although, idk if this was just because it was intersession, but i felt like we focused more on the essential concepts rather than doing a super deep or critical dive into every reading. maybe that's why some people say they "don't learn much."]
she's also pretty organized. she doesn't really use canvas–instead, she keeps everything in one cohesive google doc that she updates regularly. just keep checking that since it has the schedule, deadlines, instructions, and rubrics.
for assessments, i generally agree with what others have said. the tests are fair and mostly objective (true/false, multiple choice, and short response). as long as you study and clarify any confusing topics during the kamustahan sessions, you'll be fine. for the projects, though, make sure you actually read your assigned readings since we had both a class presentation and a video presentation based on them.
overall, i'd say she's a minimal-effort B+ to A. 🙂more

Took him during intersession 2024On assessments:-We had 5 quizzes- 1st quiz - 20 pts (multiple choice and T/F ata lahat)- 2nd quiz - 60 pts (multiple choice, T/F, identification, and short essays (yes tatlo yung short essay in the quiz)- 3rd-5th quiz - you choose the topics you’ll answer, no essay, same questions as 1st quiz)-2 short individual reflection papers (500-700 words)-1 group reporting and group paper about the report topic (6-7 members)-1 group paper about an aspect of modernity and enlightenment period (4 members)-Participation is 15% of the grade but I barely recited and still got an AOn… di ko alam ano tawag first time ko magsulat ng review HAHAHA:-Lectures flowed well naman and powerpoints were very useful, kaso sobrang wordy cause “everything is important”-Quizzes are heavily based on the readings and his powerpoints-Sir replies very fast to emails/Canvas messages-VERY VERY VERY CONSIDERATE WITH DEADLINES (I think he extended the deadlines of every single one of our outputs except the first short reflection paper which he gave on the first day)-readings are… so long… but sir explains each reading thoroughly naman-VERY VERY PASSIONATE! YAPPER! BUT IN A GOOD WAY! Hi! Got an A for her in second sem. She's genuinely not that bad. Actually, a lot of my classmates got A's and B+'s because her quizzes (we had 4 iirc) practically consisted of stuff like MC, T/F, a bit of identification, and short essays (ngl 85% of these just needed like one sentence 💀). She does upload all the readings and slides so you should be able to get by just by listening to discussions to add some stuff to your notes. Lowkey, as long as you study the stuff she uploads, the quizzes should be fairly easy. We had one group presentation for one of the readings (your group can choose which to present), one video, and one oral exam by the end of it. She grades quite generously naman, just don't COMPLETELY bum out. Although, I've heard from friends who had her for previous sems, she seems to regularly change up requirements so it might be different for you guys, especially since intersesh kayo. Again, things may be different for you guys in intersession. This is just to give you a general idea of Miss Emily :D

hi!! took her for the regular sem and just saying we lowkey got so stressed, we had a quiz almost every other week, a reporting about a reading that is very precise and during finals if i remember right we had both a video to do and oral exams. which was a bit crazy honestly for the class. the quizzes were doable but u really have to study i think she has the MOST boring lectures and sometimes her class was genuinely tiring. for me the lessons in socsci 12 are very repetitive naman, different authors same idea alam mo yun for me and my friends we agreed na we kept going in circles, while everyone else was having papers for their finals WE HAD TO STUDY FOR HER ORALS. and it’s according to her time pa… i had some friends who had to take it on the same day as our accounting finals and we told her about it and she didn’t seem to care, on the bright side naman she gives snacks all the time and i think she grades okay? our grades were from a B-B+ but i think very possible naman to get an A WITH A LOT OF EFFORT 💀💀💀💀💀💀 imore

Halloo! I took her SocSc 12 class for intersession. Her quizzes personally were not that difficult, but their scope covers multiple readings (like 2-3 iirc) which you discuss in class. For us, her quizzes seemed to be spread evenly throughout with her final assessments being the most dense (final exam and video/poster of a family recipe). I forgot the coverage of the final but iirc it leaned more towards what you learn at the last module. I think its quite an advantage taking her class in intersession because I read a comment here where they took it in regular classes and it seemed rough T^T I was a little intimidated at first seeing reviews here on P2P but my experience was pleasant naman, just take the time to closely read the readings (easier said than done tho but it pays off). And like what the other comment said most of the readings have similar themes anyways. Best of luck,!! 🫶more

He’s really nice & approachable, but confusing to follow bc most classes u answer exercises instead of it being lecture-based. Bc of this, you might need to self-study before going to class or u won’t be able to get anything.
A-able, but be sure he knows you. Either recite a lot in class or answer all his DBs. Not strict at all with deadlines bc most of his DBs are open the entire sem. Super flexible also with modality & he’ll switch to online if the beadles requests for it.
Highly reco if u have a heavy load bc minimal reqs: case presentation (by grp), midterms (open notes), departmental finals. he gives lots of opportunities for incentives too. he’s one of the nicer ones in the FAA dept!!more

She’s not scary at all. She’s really motherly and will actually do her best to help you out. Her PowerPoints and lectures can be unorganized, so take notes and as much as possible ask her any clarifications you have. She has modular quizzes that were based entirely on her PowerPoints and annotated readings. Her most difficult assessment are her orals and group presentations because she’s particular about wording.more

she’s not scary naman! more like…medyo magulo if you don’t rlly pay attention 😅 she’s a bit soft spoken and tends to ramble into a kwentuhan session so you might get distracted here and there
she is nice though! easy to negotiate with on deadlines and minsan she’ll shift to asynch if the weeks are getting hectic. the downside is her tests will be tricky at first (objective t/f with some identification) but after some time you’ll be able to identify the pattern with what she usually asks about for the midterm and final!
it’s possible to get an A for sure ! though you’ll need to put in a lot of effort esp since the readings are kinda long 😭 and you will need to read them for her quizzesmore

Shes rlly nice! She rlly tries her best to get everyone engaged by trying to relate to everyone’s experiences but she is soft spoken and loves to yap. She gives free snacks and candies in my class 🙂 She gave a structured schedule on the timeline of modules and what she’ll discuss on specific days. She uploads her slides and she summarizes the modules on it.
In terms of workload, it does seem a lot as long as you read the readings (some are easy to read, some r a bit difficult but its not too long). She has groupworks such as an oral presentation and a final video output (u get to pick which module to present). In terms of tests, it can get tricky but you’ll be able to see how she phrases her questions to mislead you (t/f, identification, essay).
It is possible to get an A as long as you do well on the tests, read, and understand the modules!more
