If you want a light class, do not take her! HAHAHAHA
- Students are free to choose their groups, with the condition that no single school (SOSE, SOSS, SOM, SOH) dominates a group. Each group is required to have a designated team name.
- Assignments are a mix of group collaborations and individual tasks.
- For certain group papers, hard copies are occasionally required. Individual tasks are submitted on Canvas.
- On the first day, you can choose a seat, but make sure that the seat you choose is permanent until the end of the semester. Attendance is monitored based on the seating plan.
- "Pop quizzes" occur during onsite sessions, with additional check-up quizzes mentioned on specific Canvas modules. The moment she says "Keep everything," brace yourselves!
- Scores for Canvas activities are not shown until the end of the semester. You would be surprised by your grade on AISIS.
- We meet once or twice a week, and sometimes both sessions are in person, while other times, the first session is onsite, and the second one is online. In one session, the class requested to conduct the session online due to several students who had flu-like symptoms. The professor agreed but opted to take the class in the physical classroom. Some students remained in the classroom, and the situation turned into a sort of "flex" class, where those present physically also joined the online session via Zoom. (Pero nasa Starbucks naman nag-o-online class yung iba chz HAHAHAHA)
- On the first day, she emphasized, "You get the grade you deserve."
- There are instances when she is surprised by the deadlines she posts on Canvas. For example, she announces a deadline for September 5 in class, but the one on Canvas shows September 12. She just follows what is on Canvas, which is fine for her.
- She also adjusts deadlines when necessary. Just ask your beadle nicely and they would do the work.
- Her workload is heavy!!!
- Reciting is the key!!!

Hello! (i took her online BUT as an educ track IS major- ) I personally love ma'am and how she conducts her classes. (Her class is literally the reason why I decided to take the Education track now.) She really gives you timely feedback on your papers esp when you ask for it. What I remember is that she has a lot of activities for groupworks but you learn a lot especially if you read the book that she requires (I'm so sorry I forgot what the title was) but most examples she talks about is in that book talaga but she really wants to hear from each of her students talaga so if you volunteer she super appreciates it. Also she has fun stuff like taking a description excerpt from a book u like then modeling it in ur own paper. ALSO... My personal favorite activity was when we were all required to evaluate 3 of our classmate's papers on a certain issue. I loved that moment because it taught me how to learn from how my peers write so I can apply it to my own paper. Also get ready for an individual video requirement but it will teach you a lot about processing what you wrote on your own paper. It is a lot to digest, I know, BUT if you are interested to learn from a really good and timely prof, go enlist with her!!!!more

but tbh, for a minor... her workload was really not a joke. and please think twice before getting her (if ever you don't feel comfortable reciting A LOT in class...) because i feel like yon yung nakahatak sa grade ko. HONESTLY it was not an easy A at all! but she really likes it when you incorporate how you feel/think about the topic and what the implications meant to society (since it should be connected to the Humanities) xD
as for the pop quizzes, im gonna say try to skim through the readings an hour before class because it does help! (especially bc her quizzes are mostly T/F) hehe
i agree with with taking her classes again (but definitely not an elective... because her class felt like a major subject imo 💔)
if ever you feel intimidated by her sa classes, +1 sa shes not scary! imo, i think she just wanted more people to recite... but when you actually talk to her na kayo lang, she's super funny and kind! (for context: we forgot to pass a group peer eval sa midterms... and we just straight out told her na we did forget... and she said to just pass it tomorrow because she wouldn't respond by the end of the day din naman xD)more

Personally, I think she’s quite lenient as long as you put in the effort and listen to her criticisms (for essays, or MMPs). I consider myself shit at writing essays, and last sem I was really having a hard time, but surprisingly I got an A in her class. I think this should already be a given, but submit the requirements on time as well.more

Agreed. In addition, if you want to learn anything, you kinda have to read the canvas modules. There's little to no discussion because "canvas counts as class time", so she delegates discussion there, with class time more focused on activities and stuff. Not my favorite way of teaching, but eh.
Don't expect feedback, btw, she kinda doesn't give any. From what I heard from other groups, most of the feedback from consultations she gave was less than helpful, but I didn't exactly attend those cause I was a bad boy. YMMV.
Do I regret taking this class? Nah. But god do I wish I never have to take the class again. I liked the ideas in it, though I disagree with some of them. Very hit or miss class tbh.more

As for her grading, she grades fairly naman she gives what you deserve. You really have to work hard for a B+/A (in papers) but it's a legit accomplishment when you finally get itmore

Hello! We're taking PurpComm with her and we just finished midterms season. So far, I feel really limited from the outputs she's asking from us and she really doesn't give much room for creativity. There's always a set template or wording she prefers. We also find many of her instructions unclear. Her Canvas seems organized but there is no clarity which ones you should actually reply to or submit unless you take note during on-site sessions, but even during on-site sessions instructions can be confusing. Her class is difficult to navigate. I found myself more challenged trying to understand her instructions than creating the requirements or outputs for her class.
She also gives surprise on-site quizzes once in a while which are too objective given that there isn't one set framework or method towards communication. For example, in one surprise quiz she just asked what questions we should consider in creating a personal reflection essay, but these had to come from the module in Canvas.
Might update after our finals. Our upcoming classes are all online now, so things might change. Hope this helps whoever will be taking her class in upcoming semesters. :>more

I took her online last year. Her workload is quite heavy, it included a lot of group presentations and quite a number of writing tasks. She grades fairly. She is just a little strict with file names, so watch out for that.

Make sure your patience is strong enoung to not fall into a fit of blind range during onsite classes. Run if you have any sense of dignity in you since you'll be treated like a stupid, unquestioning automaton. I am not learning anything substantial in her onsite classes other than to lower my standards when it comes to profs in ADMU. In other words, you may be taking PurComm, but you definitely will not experience purposeful communication.more

Had her last sem! I personally like her, because she’s really nice. She’s open to suggestions like moving the deadlines and stuff. IIRC last sem we had to move… quite a lot. Like the deadlines of essays and outlines. I also find her super accommodating since she replies fast. I think after the first module nagtanong nga rin siya if masyadong marami ung DBs HAHAHAHAHA.
Her class has lots of these little requirements tho like, discussion boards, and these group video essays that I sometimes find inconvenient, but she’s nice so idm naman.more

As a person she seems very nice and understanding, pero as a prof her metrics and various grading styles can be overwhelming. Plus side she is specific with the assessments she gives on what she expects, but the grading of everything is a bit..
Just stay on track with your DLs and try not to get too complacent with the things that can feel less pressuring like the group works or discussion boards as every grade counts. Also, her quizzes are surprise, so be prepared before every class to recall up to 3 discussions before.
Ma'am is approachable and quite motherly albeit the strict type. If you participate in her class, you'll probably have more fun ++ better memory retention hopefully.more

I've also heard no good things about Sunico from a friend who took him, but I have not taken his classes Besides that, I have encountered Sunico on a non-academic context, and, well, no—you may likewise get mentally upper-cut.

doc suarez actually cares abt her students. you can approach her after class or schedule consultations with her when u need help, but yea her methods and standards can be hard to deal with especially when ur at ur lowest (been there 🙃). another thing is that, she rarely gives out assessment grades, and you’ll be surprised na lang with your grade sa finals. Medyo nakaka anxious ito kasi you’ll never know kung ano na standing mo. tho, overall, i think it’s survivable naman.more

took suarez for ene last semester! she asks you to answer a lot of discussion boards but honestly all of it is manageable. just make sure not to miss it because its due at 5pm. she extends it until 5:30pm for any tech difficulties. doesn't accept any late submissions. she's like a high school teacher with the way she teaches. she's super open to consultations and clarification. i'd say around 30%-40% of our onsite sessions were spent for output consultations because she really wants to clear up any issues within the group. most of her outputs are by group so get really good groupmates. however, she's the type to hold pop quizzes about the previous session so make sure to read your notes before going to class. usually there's a pattern on when she's going to have a quiz. make sure to not cut or miss her classes bec u never know when these quizzes will be. note that you cant have make up quizzes. the quizzes are really easy, typically its enumeration (ex. what word describes...) or true/false. overall, i'd take her again because its one of the most chill class i had that sem!more
