ULIT: First impression of Ulit wasn't exactly the best when I had her for FIL12. She's pretty intimidating when you first meet her! But I surprisingly warmed up to her over the course of the semester. I can't really vouch for her teaching style when it comes to FIL14, but the LTs she gave our class for FIL12 were pretty kaya -- and this is coming from someone who's really bad at Filipino. She doesn't give questions that'll make you wonder where the hell it came from. Just read the readings she supplies the class and take down notes during discussions cos she doesn't give her ppts out to the class. She also adjusts the succeeding LTs she gives based on how the class performs in the previous LTs, quizzes, etc. She basically does her best for the whole class to pass!
Overall vibe of her class: You won't get mini panic attacks during discussions because she doesn't really roast the students who don't get to answer the few questions she asks. It's pretty much just her talking in front.
POPA: GAHDAMN. Had Popa for FIL14 during intercession. Like most of his reviews on this page, Popa is honestly amazing when it comes to class discussions. You can really tell that he knows what he's talking about and is passionate about imparting his knowledge onto his students! Although Filipino has never exactly been a class I've enjoyed, I'd say FIL14 was the most interesting thanks to how he delivered the topics included in the FIL14 curriculum.
Please, please, PLEASE stay alert during his discussions because he tends to call students and ask questions. He also won't hesitate to embarrass you if you screw up. He gets triggered when he sees that a student isn't showing any interest in the class.
His LTs are pretty tricky. Plus, he includes essay questions. And the dude has high standards so make sure you read up on all the topics covered by the LT so you'll know your shit.
ALSO, quiz every meeting! So make sure you read the readings he assigned for the day! He gives the quiz as soon as class starts so you better come to class prepared! He also won't care if you come five minutes late and miss the quiz.
Since my class standing was really bad, I knew I had to consult with Popa. I was honestly too scared to approach him, but I'm hella glad I did so anyway! Turns out Popa is a pretty okay dude compared to the "terror" exterior he tries to convey amongst his students. He just gave me guidance on how to lift up my grade and pass his class. I could also tell that he took it easy on me during recitation because I let him know that me no speak good Tagalog HAHAHA.
Ended up passing his class (I swear, it's nothing short of a MIRACLE - no BS).
Take his class if you're the kind of student who wants an engaging and brilliant professor and won't mind Popa's terror moments. You really have to work hard if you want to get a good grade. MAGIS IS KEY!
I think you'll still be able to enlist for either Ulit or Popa's class if your batch two since they're not exactly the "chillest" and "student-friendly" professors out there.more

Jacobo grades really high!!!!!! Yun nga lang sobrang heavy workload. I took Ulit for Fil 12, her tests are super objective so study hard nalang!!! (TBH I really studied wala pa rin) Just do good in groupworks because it'll really be able to pull your grades up!! You'll learn a lot from her and you can tell that she's really passionate about teaching, just show that you're really interested in the subject and for sure she won't fail you. She's super nice and approachable, not terror at all. Just take down notes, consult with her if needed and don't hesitate to ask her questions if you need to. I recommend taking her!!more

I was also her student last sem sa Fil honors. Really smart prof and really patient sa class. As her super ingay na beadle, never pa siya nagsprak or nagalit sa class puro slight na paninita lang. Very objective. Gives surprise quizzes so READ YOUR NOTES. She also includes in her quizzes very specific words na wala sa ppts so be sure to take note of them. Do not expect to understand the lesson right away. To be honest, nahirapan ako sa explanations niya; di masyado nagstick sakin kasi she tends to drift away from the topic sa dami ng interesting kwentos. In the end, LISTEN CAREFULLY TO WHAT SHE TEACHES :)more

take ma'am ulit! her kwentos kept the class awake but they didn't distract from the lessons :) heavy on readings, but you'll get high on the quizzes as long as you read all of them and pay attention to detail. my quiz scores weren't always great and my LT grades were averaging a C but i was able to get a B/B+ (i don't remember) in fil 12 i think because the talumpati/group documentary pulled my grade up!! overall, super kaya as long as you put effort & i really like her as a person so she made me enjoy fil even if it was 8am every TTh :)more

Ulit is nice! She has so many stories to tell so the class isnt boring. Her ppts are really helpful. Make sure to copy notes from ppts cause you'll really need them for tests. Make sure to read readings and take note of important details!! Workload is quite manageable. Her standards are quite high though. Wt effort I got a B. :)more

Pretty fun (the lessons) but she's sexist lol. Just wait lol you'll notice how she also likes to make chismis about people from the department she's in.more

Ulit gives you the grade you deserve. She curves a little but don't expect yung tipong C naging B. She gives very objective tests so you have to pay attention in class. AS IN. You have to listen to everything she says because it will be in the test. She gave me a D because I was a shit student but she's actually really good and funny. You won't regret taking her. She really knows her stuff and makes the lessons really interesting. Just make sure to be attentive in class, take down good notes, consult with her outside of class, if needed, and you'll be good.more

She's not terror actually. She's like your typical HS teacher; and in fact, she tells jokes and plenty of stories.
In terms of workload, if you're not hardworking (or if you're going to be the leader in the group activities/project), then it's not going to be a chill sem for you.

Mam Ulit is nice, she does like to give a lot of groupwork though. All in all an Ok prof and if you're fluent in Filipino I think she's a good choice.
