get ready to minor in philo coz ganon siya kabigat! if ure saving ur qpi, i reco not taking him esp if ure not adept in fili and philo. parang his grading is designed para hindi ka bumagsak sa class niya meaning ang hirap abutin ng B+/A pero malawak ang window for B (72-84). failing is 25. overall, sinira niya ang natitirang pag-asa sa akinmore

^agree! Siya ‘yung totoong definition ng life-changing prof without the ~terror, even in an online setting (based on my experience). While the readings are difficult, sobrang helpful nung video lectures niya kasi detailed talaga and he gives practical examples that’ll help you better understand the reading. Hindi siya easy A, so I suggest na pagmunihan mo talaga ‘yung mga questions na binibigay niya, and apply it to your own situation to get a high grade. He also appreciates it when you introduce your own ideas based on your personal reflection, and he looks for answers that are clear and straight to the point when it comes to papers! I think keri ang B+/A if you really put in the effort :DD (although A for him is 93+ btw) more

loved him so muchhhh!!! super organized and super understanding too. the load was just right, not too crazy heavy but u still learn a lot. my fave thing abt him is that he encourages u to pick up what u can from his lectures. he doesnt pressure u to memorize lots of stuff cause he’d rather u absorb and take in what u can and use it in a way thats helpful for u :3 i enjoyed taking his class cause i lov how organized everything is ahahah and i super appreciate all his video lectures that u can watch on ur own time. no ragretz taking him <333more

I actually took Aurelio! And grabe he's the GOAT talaga esp. when it comes to the Online setting. Batch 2-able rin siya since he usually teaches in Filipino! Canvas page pa lang 100 na siya sa akin. Easily accessible yung mga materials niya and he posts them early so you can advance read. His video lectures are also fun and digestible. He chops up his lectures into smaller chunks so you can pace yourself talaga! Youll really learn a lot from him. The only thing is that medyo mataas yung standards niya. You would really have to work to get that A (esp. If you struggle with Filipino like me). I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would take it again!more

during recit in class he doesnt rush you if youre struggling to find the word. he emphasizes to **try** even if grammar isnt great and all.

hard A but can get a B/B+ with effort! he grades using the 4-3-2-1 method although the weights of each assessment are kinda big so there's little room for error haha but that was 2 years agomore

it was really nice having fr. jason as a prof for artap! his lectures were very chill and the activities were fun and very doable :] i’d also say the requirements were well spaced-out throughout the semester so i didn’t have trouble with the class at all! 🙆‍♀️more

The best prof I've had this sem <3 I took ARTS 180.03 (Art of the Crowd) and I loved it! The readings and discussions were interesting + the workload was very manageable! Comfort class material for sure, and it was a nice breather for the heavy semester. I'd definitely take a class with sir Hidde again if I couldmore

don’t know with that particular class, taking him rn for artap! during discussions, he asks for a lot of input from the class. he’s also quite funny, therefore engaging!! only thing is with sir is that he rarely switches to online/asynch even if conditions encourage (bad weather or encouraged by ateneo)more

I had him for an art theory class. Honestly, he's really dragging and boring. He's really eager to learn about art but sometimes he stays too much on the topic of history rather than theory so you don't really learn as much as you're supposed to. It felt more like a Hi18 class on Nazi Germany than an Art class. We talked more about Hitler than about art. His lectures aren't really interactive. Like the other comment, I recommend Alfred more. If ever you have to have Van Der Wall, he's really nice and he's accommodating. He grades fairly well.more

Had him for my Histo 18 last sem. Admittedly, some of his lectures were a bit dragging, but he explains well enough. Powerpoints are filled with cool visuals (although, he won't give all of them. the one time he did that, i think, was during finals week). Also makes jokes related to the topic being discussed. Not sure how he does in FA 101, but he's a chill prof.more

took him 2 semesters ago and would say he's actually VERY GOOD! if u really want to learn then he is def worth taking 👍🏻 pros: - organized canvas, readings, and schedules - KNOWS his stuff - personally, i find his lectures not boring! he discusses readings in a very interesting way cons: - very strict! no phones, no talking, no sleeping or he'll get MAD - strictly Filipino din as in u need to speak STRAIGHT fili even during recits - quizzes every new reading (which is usually every week). unannounced as well. so you really need to attend the sessions. - high standards especially with the LTs🥹 workload: - 2 LTs (essay type), midterm orals, finals orals, 8 quizzes (4 items) grading: B+ with MAXIMUM EFFORT. my quizzes were all perfect, my midterm and finals orals were A, my 1st LT was A, i recit often. i only flopped a bit on the 2nd LT yet ganun na agad hatak. his grading has very small room for mistakes!more

Maganda ang insights! Super!!! Ganda rin ng lecture vids at di masyado mahaba. Malaman talaga yung mga input niya BUT... ang standards ay somehow mahirap ireach XD (for the papers and major outputs) Enjoy naman ung discussion boards hehemore

goated prof! his class (philo 12), for me, is still the most memorable class I've ever had in my stay. I genuinely learned a lot from his class, and he really made me love philo so much. I even emailed him 2 years after I took his class to ask about something philo related and he was more than happy to reply HAHA. Very smart, and very friendly prof. Very hard to get an A, B+ is attainable if you're good at Filipino and philo. Highly recommend him still!more

i really liked his class! the way he teaches is honestly very insightful and it made me think critically about my own beliefs and views. definitely take his class, I'd take it again even if it's in Filipino. :')) also his house looks so nice fjdnx (you can see it in his zoom background 😭 his voice is vv soothing too and he's just overall a calm guy but not boring)more

100/10 HAHA hello!! took sir onsite 2nd sem of 2022-23. feel free to pm for more insights~ - ang ganda ganda ng canvas niya at sobrang organized. though onsite, the modules/lec videos are there to help guide you esp when the readings are difficult - not strict w/ using filipino in recit but he begs u to not be conyo and at least try 😆 he probes you a bit if you can't find the word but in the encouraging way - dw, the no gadgets during class isn't hassle at all because his pacing is easy to follow so you won't struggle with notes if that's your concern - all requirements are only over 4. he teaches you how to compute your grade too if that's something you consider - idk sir is just really cool and makes the class interesting. i agree that his standards are quite high but not unreasonable, just in the way that pushes you to do your best. he's also wholesome and remembers his students :") makes you feel appreciated requirements: - "surprise" reading quizzes every time there's a new reading (you get a feel for it eventually or u can ask the other sections). objective essay, so just say what the reading said - canvas assignments: it varies but i remember we had a few indiv/group discussion boards and a short video - midterm paper: you choose a text from a list he provides and you have to relate it to the lessons in modules 1-4 (i think). he gives guide questions too - final oral exam: you draw a thesis statement and explain it to him. i think we had 10 mins? iirc they're given towards the end of the semmore

Hello! I had VAN DER WALL, Hidde Tjakke for ArtAp10 last intersession. Our schedule was quite weird since hati siya into late evening during mondays at thursdays instead of daily. From my experience, expect a lot of podcasts, choosing an artwork and making an analysis of it then creating your own artwork with any medium. Sir is very kind and welcoming. As far as I remember he's from the netherlands. I mean this in the nicest way possible, and this is just my opinion of him. He reminds me of those nice NPCs in any wizard-type games that show you the direction in each quest you go on. Meaning he cracks jokes, he's lively naman but sometimes the lectures get very long na it can be boring. Overall, I would recommend this prof naman. I ended up getting a B, but that's because I half-assed this class. Definitely A-able, it was just tricky getting a decent grade for the podcasts, so do consult with him to adjust your outputs according to this recommendations.more

Hi! I had sir van der wall for artap 10 last sem and he's super chill and kind! He does a few podcast outputs and the readings are somewhat page heavy but you can find videos and other stuff about them online so it wasn't too big of a deal. His discussion style can be a hit or miss in the sense that some might find it boring but personally it was good! I enjoyed his lectures and his insights and comments on the pieces. For his final output, we were able to choose the medium so you're free to do anything! Overall, I recommend taking him ^^more

Can't speak for that particular class, but I took Dr. Hidde right after JTA and my class with him felt like I were still with a JTA professor So I guess his teaching style feels a lot more European than it is Filipinomore

i think this is his first time teaching FA101! i took his intro to visual arts class and it was okay! while most would say his class is boring, draggy, etc., he's really chill. his assessments were just short papers and a creative project! although he's known for teaching histo, he loves art and is really enthusiastic about it. however, this didn't translate so well and almost everyone overcut (he rarely records attendance) overall, he's not bad. not so sure how he'd teach FA101 tho, since it's like a philo-art class. i'd recommend marasigan instead! 😊more
