hi! i had him for two classes (he was actually my mom’s prof as well and she recommended him to me) and to answer the latter question, yes he does allow gadgets in his class. honestly, he allows a lot of things to happen in his class haha he kinda dgaf but its chill. i agree with the humble otter comment that he is really hard to hear at times, especially in classrooms that aren’t aircon kasi the fans are literally louder than him and we kept asking the beadle to give him the mic but he didn’t use it. however, as an alumni and someone very interested in anthro and philippine culture, i really dont regret taking his classes at all. lectures aside, he’s been in the game long enough to know people who can introduce you to niche topics and depending on what he has in store for the class, there are so many unique experiences that you likely won’t get in other anthro classes. i got to work for Ditta Sandico, a Quiapo-based NGO that focused on preserving and championing its rich culture, and our class also had a lot of food to taste and discuss. One time he brought different local chocolates for us to taste and discuss, and another time he brought different kinds of pancit to prove a point about Filipino cuisine. He even brought in a perfume maker one time to discuss different senses in relation to Filipino culture. If you’re taking his class, I suggest sitting in the front so that you can hear him. While his age may make it difficult to hear him at times, I honestly think his experience as an anthropologist makes him a great source of knowledge. Find people in your class who are also passionate about anthro and your experience in his class will also improve greatly :))more

Doc Z for SocSc 12 is a rarity because he teaches ANTH and SOAN classes more often. He's a legendary professor, and he might be monotonous in lectures, but he is very knowledgeable in his subject matter which is Anthropology. One thing I can emphasize from my learning experience with Doc Z is that he's very nitpicky with GRAMMAR and ANALYSIS. Word count? Not really, as long as you get your points across, he won't bother. His comments are detailed yet constructive, so make sure to maximize that as you progress the semester with him. He's C+/B-able, but to get that B+/A, you need to be bang on with your papers and quizzes (in case he does give).more

Had him for Anth. Personally, I resented being in his class. He’s quite frankly too old to be teaching at this point and can’t keep his hand up long enough to keep the mic near his mouth so you barely hear or understand much of the lecture. :// He can be a bit unclear with guidance for assessments, but he’s not entirely a bad grader. You can pull a B/B+ with minimum effort naman, but for such an interesting class with many stellar topics, parang mahihinayang ka lang in his lectures and you’ll just get bored to death.more

Take him!! Def one of the profs I still remember to this day. Had papers that are mostly by group and overall the recs werent heavy. Would agree that he gets monotonous which made a lot of my classmates just go out the entire period (lowk feel bad) and come back when its abt to finish but if you actually take ur time to listen, I could assure u his lessons would stick :)more
