Doc Lloyd’s previous class beadle here! 👋 (pasting a reply I already wrote here in the comsec for easy viewing) spare your life by not volunteering or even speaking up (you might just get asked to become beadle like me) during schola brevis. There are absolutely ZERO PERKS to being his class beadle and guaranteed that it will only take a toll on your mental health given the complaints and assistance you’d have to handle for your classmates. While he is diplomatic with his beadles and doesn’t project his share of frustrations about the class to the beadle, trust me on this, please. Just don’t. There are no advantages to it i.e. brownie points, curve (he doesn’t curve at all for the class) so it’s not worth the time and energy. As for tips on how to survive the class 1) You need to get GOOD group mates. Heavy emphasis on this; you can’t and shouldn’t be shouldering the ideating and writing process yourself. This is absolutely the worst time to have pabuhat group mates. And 2) Set up as many consultations with him as much as possible!! Just to get a clearer understanding of what he expects from your output. It varies per group eh. But it shouldn’t stop there. You really need to deliver a quality chapter/final paper if you want a good grade. So, ✨magis ✨ I wouldn’t say he was a terror prof, just someone with high standards and an ‘old school’ way of grading. Logically speaking as per him, a C+ is not bad, just average. If you want more than that, then your outputs definitely have to reflect above than average. As a student (not beadle), the class can be enjoyable if you frame it in the right way. Just another challenging prof you’ll have to overcome! As for the instructions, I agree it can be confusing but make sure to clarify all the time in class and DO NOT OVERTHINK IT. This is also where you learn to exercise your critical thinking skills. He also doesn’t like it if your entire class pesters him all the time about it but he is really open to consultations about your topic through email or even Viber, so utilize that. Hang in there! It’s all about the mindset. Not an easy A, B+, or even B. You really have to put in the effort. The class average for us was a C+, that’s all I’m gonna say haha.more

Here's a review as someone who's taking him this semester in POLSC 193: Quantitative Research in Social Sciences.
1. Poor classroom management. I can count by hand the number of onsite classes we've had since the start of the sem, the rest is held online which creates a lot of difficulties, especially when it comes to consultations since he also comes in late.
2. Gives unclear instructions. Super gulo niya magbigay ng instructions, magagalit pa yan pag humingi ka clarification.
3. Inadequate consultations. Since he's busy with his main job, it's difficult to schedule a time with him to meet kahit online. Not only that, you'll have to get used to messaging him on viber, but that doesn't give the full context of the research/ concern. Sometimes, he just doesn't respond at all.
4. Grades low. He's one surefire way to bomb your QPI because he thinks A, B+, and Bs are only reserved for the most exceptional. His grades range from D to C+, you'll get the occassional F. And he really doesn't make getting at least a C+ possible considering the unclear instructions and difficulty getting ahold of him.
I agree with the previous comment that he's a good professional, but that's the extent of it. While this might not be applicable to QUANT 33, I'll add that we've been upfront with him about our concerns, but there has been essentially no change. The most he's done is show up to class and teach for 30 minutes.

He often holds classes online. One time, he posted an assignment on Saturday afternoon, it was due on Sunday. Instructions are usually not clear.
I was comparing with my other friends who took Quant 33. While the consensus was there weren't any "easy A & good teachers" for the subject, none of them described a prof as bad as him.more

Hi, I took Sir BAUTISTA, for QUANT 33 and I would not recommend him. He has very hard tests and my class had an average of 50% which was really bad. A lot of them ended with D to F.
However I would say that a C to B is possible with hard effort.more

Hi, I took sir BAUTISTA, and if there is an option to take a different please do so. You won’t be having a fun time in class since he is old and he does not grade high. Half of my class got D and C. He barely gives A-B.

Hi! I'm taking him this semester for quanti research (POLSC193). I'll leave a review because this would have been super helpful for me 4 months ago. His other students would also have a lot to say about his teaching and classroom management but I'll start with: please consider looking for other professors :))
While he's highly knowledgeable and experienced as a researcher, it's an incredible challenge communicating with him and there are issues with how he respects his students' time. Getting an A (even a B, really) is nearly impossible because a) he believes it's reserved for the most exceptional students and statistically, everyone else naturally falls under the remaining letter grades. Also b) a lot of his students aren't well equipped to meet his performance expectations, even after all his (brief) lectures or (ineffective) consults. His students and beadles have had an unnecessarily hard time working with him.
Your experience in QUANT33 could be entirely different, of course, but students' general experience of him this semester hasn't been positive. I'm not sure if it's the same for previous years since he's an adjunct with no reviews on here. Wish you better luck than we had though!more

Just make sure you utilize the consultation sessions. He’s actually very thorough with feedback which was good for me, since it’s easy to identify your mistakes and fix it way before you submit the final paper. If you genuinely show effort and care about your paper, then he’ll do the same when it comes to guiding you guys.

had sir bautista last sem and he’s not as bad as he seems. found him to be very understanding actually (in terms of class modality, extension of deadlines) and i do agree with the other comments of needing good groupmates as a big chunk of our grade was from the making of our research paper.
during class, he would discuss the concepts to learn that we’d be applying for the paper. he shares the lecture materials in advance so we can study it beforehand. sometimes, he would also call people to check our understanding but don’t be scared because he tries to guide you when you don’t know the answer.
consult was also very helpful as there are specific things he wants to see for a topic and he’s very open to answering our questions. grading-wise, he was quite fair and even gave As to some of us. overall, i’d say that he’s still a nice guy and you can survive this! good luck!!more
