for quant 30, second sem ‘22-‘23: attendance: - conducts short quizzes every meeting which will also count as your attendance. usually, it would be about the previous lecture so attendance is really key for this class Teaching Style: - sir uploads one long powerpoint for each module and you’re expected to read it before onsite classes. he leaves some parts of the powerpoint blank so that students will actually pay attention to lectures and take note of missing parts. - as for teaching statistics, i don’t think he’s that great compared to the other reviews here. most of us had to self-study all the lessons (especially the last two modules) during the process of making the final paper bcos he didn’t make sense during onsite classes even if we asked for clarifications. Course Outputs: - for our first task, we had to submit a research matrix which is similar to rrl, and we were given weeks to finish it. Choosing a topic was one of the biggest issues for the matrix because he wants you to choose a novel and unique topic, but then he wants u to provide loooots of research to backup ur proposed topic. u can’t just propose a unique topic out of the blue bcos he (somehow) wants u to replicate an existing study, and that somehow defeats the purpose of research?? :// unfortunately bcos of his specific standards (loads of comments in every revision), we had to go past the given deadline, which also meant lots of deductions (- 5 for every revision and -1 for every day late). you also can’t start on another output unless you’re done with the previous one. tbh, the task itself and the given timeline are fine but his standards are so specific, you’d actually miss deadlines. - Research Proposal: one of the longest outputs in this class. this one has to be aligned with the sources in your matrix. - For consultations, I think it does help if you want to know if you’re on the right track. Sir gives valuable feedback when you consult with him, but don’t expect immediate approval on your group’s submission after your consultation. Sometimes, sir would suggest adding a certain type of source in the matrix but then he’ll comment on ur next revision and ask why ur group added that source. Overall, he has specific (and unspoken) standards (and you’ll learn about these standards along the way) and I wouldn’t recommend completely relying on his rubrics. Grading: - again, high standards Overall evaluation: - impossible A. loadrev if u want to save your qpi 😭more

To add to what was said na by: Tbh puro concepts lang HSHAHA sure may applications here and there pero kulang pa rin. Can you imagine na all of his classes are clueless if ano gagamitin sa stat tools and descriptive analysis chuchu para sa paper?? His consultations are so hard pa—if you try asking about what you can use sa paper he'll answer either with "Are you asking me?" or "I taught that in Module 4. Check your notes." LOL Idt he gives super critical comments pa sa assessments niyo—example, for our proposal, we consulted with him many times and submitted na we'll be using pearson's as our stat tool given our objectives. Sabi niya ok and no comments din when we returned our paper. Pero nung final paper niya, when we consulted 3 days before submission, sabi niya bigla: "Why are you using Pearson's? That's insufficient to test your objectives." LIEK WHAT AHSHSHSHS SIR anyway ayon nga 😭 Then here comes our final defense—surprisingly napaka chill 💀 wala siyang tinanong na stat related masyado pero i think its bc DI NIYA PA PALA BINASA PAPERS NAMIN BEFOREHAND AHAHSHA pero idk ano grade namin don:") As for final grades.... he curves naman i think HSHAHAHA i was expecting something lower pero he gave me two letter grades up than my projected grade (which i kept track of given all my scores throughout the sem). He can be a pain to have as a quant 30 prof, but it also depends on the other quant 30 profs available that time—cus for us, it was either having sir valentin with daily short quizzes, or having stat heavy LTs from other profs HSHSHSHS choose wisely ig??more

Hello, anon, had him first sem last year, I'd say he's a pretty good prof. Teaches clearly, with multiple examples for each concept, and whatever comes out in his PPTs/quizzes will match what he puts in the LT. He posts all his slides on Canvas, though make sure to note the answers in class since not all of them are given. He's very open to consults, so make sure to consult with him a lot for your paper. His feedback is fairly detailed and he's quite open to questions, so make sure to clarify anything unclear with him. Good luck!more

Funny Twitter niya. He's a really good prof! He asks you to print his ppts so you can take notes on that and you don't have to rush to copy. Ask questions if you're confused. For the paper, I remember him saying he wants the presentation for it to be done as if the person knows shit stat and it's something you will appreciate cause if you can explain it in simple terms, then that means you understand the lesson.more

MAUU Super solid If you like structured learning, sir Patrick is great kasi the quiz every meeting is actually there to help you retain more info. Usually one question lang or mini problem so as long as you listen during class, it won't be difficult. I didn't study much outside class kasi during class mismo super kaya ni sir iexplain yung concepts ang wild kasi ganito mga fave kong prof kasi magaling magturo + HE IS SUPER NICE OUTSIDE CLASS hehehe one of the good ones in SOM for suremore
