TL;DR: She’s really not as taxing as most reviews make her out to be, you just have to listen in class and read the readings.
Requirements:
1) Quizzes: She’ll have 1-3 quizzes max the entire sem; some announced, some not. All fairly straightforward objective questions, so if you read the assigned reading for that day regardless of whether it was announced.
2) Papers: You’ll have only two papers the entire sem: a 500-word reflection paper and a twelve-page double-spaced research paper. The reflection paper will be on a talk or paper she’ll ask you to attend. She grades pretty well as long as you don’t bullshit it. As for the research paper, she’s more stringent and the mean grade will be in the 80’s. But she seems to grade better the more you incorporate primary source analysis in your discussion. So get data from censuses, magazines articles from the time, government reports, etc.
3) Exams: Her exams will have identification, T or F, multiple choice, and essay parts. All the questions are straightforward and obvious if you paid attention well in class and actually read the readings. Neither are the choices confusing (e.g., won’t have A. Cooper Act, B. Cooper Bill, C. Cooper Law) so even if you have a vague recollection of the question and answer you’ll be fine.
Classroom Policies:
1) Notes: She’ll let you use your laptops to take notes, but if she notices you scrolling through your newsfeed (profs can tell haha) she’ll confiscate your laptop until the end of the period.
2) Lectures: Her voice is a bit soft so I recommend sitting in front. But her lectures are very well-structured and it’s clear to follow how and why event X led to event Y. And if you get that logical flow of events you’re gonna ace the exams no problem. I honestly found the lectures interesting academically and she has a lot of historical fun facts and tangents. They’re not going to overtly be “wow oh my god my life is changed i love the philippines” but they’re rigorous and allow you to open your eyes to those realizations on your own.
Dr. Dacudao is a very good professor and academic, and is far from as hard or as bad as the reviews make her out to be. But to get the full value out of her class you can’t slack off and expect to be spoon-fed either.more

Workload:
- 6 onsite canvas quizzes on respondus lockdown. the quizzes are mostly based on the material on canvas and the readings. they're mostly multiple choice, some T/F, but no essay questions afaik. most questions are worth 2+ points! so be careful.
- lots of long readings 😬 try not to read the day/night before, most of my all nighters were histo related 😓
- the midterm paper is an annotated bibliography on your topic of choice
- the final paper answers the research question, which is supported by your bibliography
- onsite class activities include a peasant play and a presentation
- lectures are a bit boring 😢 esp it was 8am @ bel for us LOL
- she has video lectures up on canvas that she expects you to have watched before the onsite discussion
- all activities (excl quizzes and the indiv zotero) are done by group!
- there are plenty of discussion boards in the canvas; answer them!
- she'll make you tally your recitation at the end so make sure to take note of when and what you recited
- do the bonus paper! you usually have to attend a talk and write a reflection. i watched quezon!
Notes:
- she loves zotero and there are activities involving that so get acquainted with it if you aren't already. she expecte the papers to utilize zotero as well.
- she isn't really that bad! A-able but i only got a B+; could've gotten an A if i recited more prob
- she's pretty strict with the schedule so requests for activities to be moved/extensions will likely be denied
- if you miss a quiz she'll let you take it as long as you have a med cert im pretty sure
- choose good grpmates!
- as beadle i didn't really do much...she's really so organized already. regarding suspensions/class cancellations, i'd message her on canvas and she'd announce modality before even replying to me LOL
- she gave bonus points one time for attending class during incelement weather (there was no suspension 🥲)

Workload
- 6 quizzes: Onsite using Respondus. Everything is from the modules but my tip is to listen well sa mga f2f and PowerPoint slides and videos nya since around 80% of the test is from there, the rest is readings. Pay attention to the readings din thought dont overthink. Hindi sya yung type na magtanong sa smallest detail sa readings, usually the important deets lang
- Few activities: Ranging from a group play to using Zotero. Just try to follow her instructions. Usually perfect yung ibibigay nya if she's satisfied (which is rather easy)
- Midterms: 50 points out of 350 max points. Find a topic that has an abundance of sources yet little discourse. Even if ur topic is cool and interesting, kung wala kang sources to strengthen ur topic, wala talaga
- Finals: 50 points din. Using what you did sa Midterms, you make a paper on your topic. Note that Midterms and Finals are by group. Most time consuming yung finals imo (tho crammable)
- Participation: Just answer a question she posted sa Canvas and you're good
Attitude
- Very detailed. First day pa lang, everything is already at Canvas. She also told us the days where we are asynch (tho subject to change given the bagyos)
- Rather boring. Around half of the class sleeps when she talks f2f. She also tends to move the topic a bit everywhere. Ig it's her soft spoken voice or medjo thunders narin so may generational gap nga
- Very passionate. She required us to read her reading about indigenous peoples during the American period and it was very interesting. Despite her going everywhere in her discussions, you can see that she dedicated her life to this field
Grading
- A is Histo standards na 95-100
- She probably curves, or at most rounds up your grades. I got an A despite my highest grade being 94.3
Overall, just read, know how to ask questions, and follow instructions and ur good. Ma'am is meticulous so you must be too :>more

Totally agree with this!!! She is an excellent professor and really makes History more than just studying facts, like you really get to appreciate it (for example, she'll give multiple perspectives for historical events which i really appreciated and found super interesting). Her workload is not as heavy as people make it out to be, like its a lot but within reason! And she gets a bad rep because of her voice when she teaches, but if you look past that I swear, her lectures are one of the best ones I've had in Ateneo (I'd always be sad when I'd have to cut her class).more

Taking her class right now and i have to say, her ways of teaching is not effective for me. Right now, she makes us watch lecture videos and do the readings on our own time and when we meet face to face, she just expects us to ask questions and that’s her way of teaching. Also, her quizzes are difficult given that each quiz is based on an average of 3 lecture videos and 3-4 readings 😞 Though i’m trying my best to appreciate her class, I just can’t do it since her way of teaching is just so ineffective and inconsiderate since not everyone is able to learn just from reading the materials. Also, she’s just plain rude 😭 I got the passing score in her quiz, and cos we had to go to her after we take it, she was like “ok this is good, you passed,” then i walked away and she said “but barely” 😭 so unnecessary!!!more

doc dacudao is my worst nightmare. she knows her stuff (she's dept chair) yeah but she was just on a constant power trip when i had her. she made us take our quizzes online (via respondus* more on this later) but in our classroom, which was in bel and bel had terrible wifi. she made it our responsibility to have our own/connect to someone's data to take the quiz in the classroom. her solution to all our complaints about canvas not loading properly is just "to refresh and keep trying"
on respondus: respondus is notorious for its bugs in other schools but she insists on using it to ensure that no one cheats lol. two of us in class had permanent issues on our devices (ipad and laptop) since we installed respondus. we raised this to her and gave suggestions to maybe switch to pen and paper since we're taking it onsite anyway OR to let us use the computers in the lib because there was no way we'd keep using respondus on our devices. she responded to all these but shutting us off. i very clearly remember when she told me, "your device has virus already anyway so just keep using it for your quizzes and we'll figure out how to fix it later." she never did anything to compensate for the damages. her solution was always just to restart, refresh, try again. in the end, she let us use our classmates' devices when we had nothing to take the quizzes with.
overall very wack and inconsiderate. she never took responsibility nor any of the trouble we had to go through because of her apparent laziness to just manually check pen and paper submissions. i do not recommend taking her and i see zero merit in ever doing so.more

Her grading system is weird af, there are 370 points in “total,” so your final grade is based on how many mistakes you make throughout the semester. To get an A, you can only make 18 mistakes (because her A is 95!!!!)
Very difficult because her quizzes (which she makes us take online… but onsite at Bel using Lockdown Respondus) are 1 question = 2 points. One quiz per module (we had 6) and usually 3-4 readings per quiz. But we did have one quiz with around 7 readings iirc HAHAHA. If you have technical issues with your device or with the signal, she’ll just tell u to keep retrying and checking ur bandwidth 💀
She’s very madamot with giving perfect scores in other requirements too. She’ll make u despise her because of how inconsiderate she is 😞 She does not care about students being affected typhoons or having scheduling conflicts etc. She’ll tell you to exhibit RESILIENCE 💜 and to plan better next time (for things that were never even in your control)
Only good thing about this class is u only meet once a week (so u only get 3 cuts…)!!! But I don’t think it’s worth it HAHAHAHAHA
Ending the semester with a B+ because I messed up the first few tests not knowing she’d be like this… don’t make the same mistake 🤣 Good luck!more

Read the readings and actively engage in class and her Canvas modules since she actively responds to every comment & corrects you there if you missed a point about the lesson. Teamwork is a must for the passes too! *Add Zotero to Gdocs* PLS 🙏
📌 Workload:
Just right. We had 6 Modules. 4 Quizzes on Canvas, 4-5 Discussion Boards per Module, very long readings and recorded videos. Play it at 1.25x to save time. Finals and Midterm Assessments Papers were done by group. Pls download Zotero too as soon as u can, she only ever trusts that citation source.
Her Canvas modules are neat and organized naman. I feel like it hasn't been updated much since pre-pandemic.
📌 Onsite:
Make sure to have good groupmates and read the texts before coming to class. Cuz recitation matters. By the end of the sem, she asked us to submit a paper that asks what question we recited and our answer to it (tho i feel this can be bola naman).
Pretty chill prof naman. Very motherly, and I recommend staying on the 2 rows of her class cuz her voice is really soft. (so yes nakakaantok talaga, so you do you on how to deal with that 😅)
📌 Grading:
Probably A-able naman with a lot of effort, having a good grasp of her lessons and staying active in class. But got a B cuz didn't perfect her quizzes and probably the group passes.

Hi! I just had her during this past sem. Anon 120's comment is pretty accurate to my experience. I just want to emphasize the importance of doing your readings for her class because she doesn't discuss everything that comes up in the quizzes. What isn't discussed comes from either the readings or the video lectures on canvas. That said, it's super reading heavy. Like, i know that's to be expected (litr called READINGS in Ph history) but genuinely wow it's really heavy. The readings are long and per lesson you'd have about 3-ish readings? That's not like a whole lot, but it adds up when you consider you have readings for other classes too. So yeah budget your time well.
I got a B with a reasonable amount of effort, but you could probably get an A if you go the extra mile. Either way, i think it's a survivable class.more
took her last 2324 2nd sem! maam is quite strict with attendance (she always checks it on the bell with no exceptions even if you’re coming from a previous class). she is also a bit passive aggressive sometimes. her lectures are quite boring with topics not being included in the quiz. read the canvas since that’s where quiz content is mostly based on.
workload is a bit heavy with 6 quizzes on canvas but done onsite. all of them are objective multiple choice questions. there is also 1 midterm paper (choose a topic then create an rrl on sources for your final paper) and 1 finals paper (answering your research question). there are also class activities (role plays, presentations, etc.). she doesn’t grade that high for the papers so you can boost your grade thru the quizzes.
as far as i can remember, the grading system is also your points/total hps for all assessments. her A is also higher than normal ~94/95.
overall, she’s A-ble if you read the canvas and the readings (lengthy), and consult with her.more

got an A from her this sem! she’s a lot nicer than the past reviews you’ll find here make her out to be. yes it’s def reading-heavy but tbh I managed to get good scores in the quizzes despite cramming most of the readings the night before 😅 she can ramble a lot in class but you’ll still gain so much insights from her lectures, esp the onsite ones she gives ab the americans + japanese which were my personal faves! she also loves it when you give personal insights/thoughts on any of the topics; I recommend you use this to your advantage for the participation grade at the end of the sem :))more

- heavy w the readings !! most of the things in the lectures and the quizzes are in the materials sooo
- as much as possible, read ahead since some of them are loooong (tho, at least for me, they were interesting), and i think reading the materials is really crucial for the class to appreciate the onsite lectures (tho she does not call specific people to answer her questions naman)
- utilize ur canvas. i cant stress enough how her course was very dependent on the students' self-learning abilities [parang pumapasok na lang talaga kami onsite for the attendance, for clarifications, and for the additional lores outside the reading]
- do the group activities ahead of time. i do not recommend setting them aside (they r NOT cram-able) esp if u want high marks, and communicate well with your group
- participate actively in class... answer her questions or clarify things (she likes it when students engage !!)
- as a prof, she was never mean naman with us (at first i was vvv intimidated but she was not maldita/terror to us naman; if anything, she is enthusiastic with what she's teaching)
- a 95 is indeed a (much) higher grade than a 92 for an A, esp for a class with limited assessments. so, every point really has to matter if u're aiming for one. personally, i read and watched all of the materials and listened diligently during the lectures (had at most 3 mistakes in the quizzes)
- try to have fun pa rin! be interested with the readings and with the course in general. there were bonus points naman:)more

- all her lessons are on canvas, all u need to do is read and watch them.

- u can have notes for the exam, as long as they are on paper

- lectures and onsite sessions were monotonous and honestly skippable if she wasnt so strict on the cut policy. pray that u have a classmate who’s good at history and can hard carry class discussions (shoutout to )

hi! the assessments include quizzes, discussion boards (both individual and by group), and 2 major papers. for the quizzes, they’re fairly easy, just read the readings (although they’re a lot most are interesting naman). also, she uses lock down browser and if the class is in bel just prepare for some disconnections 😭. for the papers, choose groupmates that you can rely on and be resourceful in getting the materials (aside from the rizal library you can also go to the national library). she is available for consultations, so you can always ask about the flow of your paper (always be prepared with the sources). also recite at least once in class and remember it, as well as submit the optional bonus paper if ever there is. she is strict in attendance !!more
