i took her last year! she's a good prof :>
in terms of teaching, she's very knowledgeable about the course and she discusses topics in detail.
the heaviest component for her grading system is the 3 long tests. they're mixed-questions exams that require both memorization and understanding of the topic (for application questions). she also has quizzes and class assessments either on canvas or onsite (could be a short worksheet or a group quiz). these are fairly easy naman! ace these to bawi the long tests HAHAHS. there's also one group video project that's easy to make as long as you're with good groupmates (choose wisely). generally, the workload is a bit heavy in the sense that you'll have a lot of things to memorize snd understand in-depth.
for all her assessments, she's strict with formatting of scientific names and such. in terms of returning scores and grades, she's efficient! she'll return grades the next day if not on the same day. her canvas is also very organized with complete resources. she's generally a nice prof!
i'd take her again if i could (though i got a B+ lang)more

Vv hard A. B+ w effort. It's her exams na sobrang hirap kasi in the first place, malawak na nga coverage, pangalawa, it's also the way she tests u. For example, super unforgettable talaga nito sakin kasi I was like wtf what r we, med students? : May part ng exam niya where there's like a narrative na these are the symptoms experienced by a person then u have to identify all possible parasites that are involved. All as in every. single. one. or else you won't get the full point.
If u want the A I say start vv strong, cuz her exams just gets progressively harder, esp the last one. Imagine, I could still get an A before her third exam but when it happened, bam I was at the lower threshold of B+ alr 😭.
She definitely teaches well, but don't be fooled w her simple and clear lectures as she could totally fuck u up in the exams 😭.more

maam jhoana is the BEST!! her canvas modules are extremely organized and there are a lot of study/resource material. she also returns assessments in a timely manner which is great. while the learning checks and the quizzes are not that easy at times as a lot of the questions are applications of the lesson and not just simple identification items, the long tests are very similar to the previous assessments which allows you to prepare really well. for the group work, choose GOOD group mates as it carries a big weight on your grade (including peer evaluation of course). i learned a lot from the course and genuinely enjoyed the class!!more

I think she's a you get what you get prof. I dont really think she curves bc iirc what i got sa canvas was the letter grade that I got.
Lol one time for the group project, we emailed her to appeal for our low-ish score and then she responded telling us that actually she missed smth and that our score should actually be lower 😂 (not blaminh her it was js a funny time)
She did give plus points for the winter wars group activities tho so idk if she made u guys do it but if u did, those will be ur plus ptsmore

love maam garces!! her canvas page is one of the most organized and all the learning material you need is there! quizzes and long test are super doable mostly multiple choice with a bit of essay. her lectures are also fun and engaging!! she also has a lot of bonus points for you to raise your grade
your final project will be a group report on a certain phylum!! be sure to get GOOD groupmates (that respect you and are nice to work with) because it'll make or break your grademore
