Organized modules, discussion boards count as 15% participation
So here are my thoughts on sir Delocado for both eco lec and eco lab:
Eco lec:
- His modules are really organized. For each module, there are about 5 topics and then for each topic, there are 3-4 vid lectures (10-15 mins each). He teaches well and provides interesting examples and case studies, but there are times though when some things get a bit confusing because of how he would phrase his explanations. He provides a transcript for the videos though which really helps
- For every topic, there’s a discussion board too. I suggest that you try to answer as many discussion boards as you can because it counts towards participation (which is 15% of the overall grade). It’s a good practice for the quizzes because his quizzes are not your usual objective type ones. The quizzes are usually essay-type with a bit of objective-type questions (15 points). He provides timely feedback most of the time on the answers on the discussion board naman in order to let you know if you’re on the right track, if there’s room for improvement, etc. He wants answers to be straight to the point for both the dbs and quizzes, so ayaw niya ng paligoy-ligoy (yes, he has high standards). The quizzes will be hard if you did not review or understand the topics too, so try to answer the dbs because it would really help you in answering the quizzes.
- If you answered the quizzes straightforwardly (and correctly) he’ll give you full points
- For every topic, there’s also a check-up assessment which is usually worth 5 points. It’s usually objective type and open notes rin. Really helps if you want to pull your grades up (and familiarize yourself more with the topic) because the assessments are worth 15% of the final grade
- He holds one synch session for each module. He gives opportunities for recitation, so take advantage of that if you want more participation points
- Instead of midterm and final written exams, we had oral exams :’) it’s by group and it requires a lot of prepping. Again, he wants straightforward answers
- He gives bonus activities too
Overall, he’s a great teacher naman especially if you’re interested in ecology, and you can really see the effort he puts into fixing and organizing the modules. But still (and this is a warning), it’s gonna be a very rough ride. B+/B-able, but it’s not impossible to get an A if you really endure the hardships.
Eco lab:
- There were check-up assessments too, but no quizzes. There's a live pre-lab synch for each module
- The topics are lighter than those in eco lec
- 10% of the overall grade also counts towards participation so try to recite in the synchs and answer as many discussion boards as you can
- The lab reports are doable but really time-consuming because there’s really a lot to answer. So make sure to pick your groupmates well. Again, he has high standards for the guide questions so make sure that your answers are straightforward too
- Unlike eco lec, there’s only one final oral exam for eco lab
UPDATE: Had him for 2 classes (ecology, evo bio) and he’s currently one of our profs for systematics. All I can say is: run 🥲more

Review for eco lec: got him as a co-teacher lang with another prof. Nonetheless, solid and concerned siya sa pacing niya. Like he would ask the class if he’s too fast or smtg. Quiz-wise easy just read the book and guide questions in it usually dun siya humuhugot. Never really felt his LT as difficult bc his co-instructor had a more severe gravity in giving out the LT in itself wahu. Overall, chill lec prof and di demanding.
Review for Eco lab: DUDE HARD PASS. As in kung meron lang ibang eco lab prof na nnagooffer last sem, i would load rev out kung nalaman ko sobrang petty niya on formatting (bc di ako yung OC type of person). We got as a group low scores dahil may namiss kaming group picture na kulang isang groupmate???? Is that ecology or smtg slrfjshbs like he saw us in full attendance naman throughout for the activity but dating sa labrep naminusan?! Have a template kagad for your lab reps and make sure u have groupmates that can really make ur lab rep extensive kasi dun ka makakakuha ng plus points. Like get the concept of the guide question, himayin mo into aspects such as relevance (namedrop journal articles that directly concerns it) and everything else. For the “fieldwork,” it requires two outputs 1) a comprehensive lab report and 2) a research manuscript. For the compre lab rep, dude, as in do EVERYTHING and ANSWER EVERYTHING. Don’t take his word for granted na “okay lang yan, wag niyo na ilagay” statements bc dude, he asked where was it in our labrep??? The premise of this was that during the fieldwork, marami talagang group’s can’t complete everything he’s asking for kasi kulang sa oras (legit mga 30 mins lang kami nasa beach tapos hinihingi land, intertidal and subtidal) lol the jokes on us kung di kami humingi ng data from the other groups. But still we got a really low grade despite our efforts. BUT we got a solid 100 in our research manuscript bc we just used biostat into our advantage lol so maybe u should take note on that bc he seems to favor integrating stat into your study HAHAHA but overall good guy in terms of kwentuhan, but bad bad bad for checking of papers/labreps. Orals is easy, just listen to all pre-lab (record if keri mo) then just listen to it before the orals.more

Sir is actually a really nice prof, and you can tell he really knows his stuff when it comes to bio and he’s so enthusiastic about it.
He does, however, have quite a heavy workload to give, so if you wanna get a good grade, don’t cram. He’s also very specific when it comes to lab reports, like if kulang ng slight, bawas agad sa grade. This is only for lab tho.
If he’s teaching lecture now too, he’s a really good lecture prof, swear. You will learn a lot and he’s pretty fun naman.
Get him if you’re willing to put in the effort! It’ll pay off naman if you do.more

Had him for zoo lab and honestly, i’d cry almost every thursday because of this class. Sobrang meticulous niya w lab reps and honestly, this was the first time in my life i was okay w getting a grade lower than a B, as long as I passed. I really would not take him again BUT i did learn a lot from him cos he’s a good prof! He’s also rlly nice and he cares for his students naman 😊 i jus rlly would not take his class again.

Got him for botany lab (intersession 2018) & he grades pretty low for lab reports. Also study & memorize well for the LTs (moving exams) because they’re pretty objective. Tbh I thought I’d get a really low grade but because of all the bonuses, he curved my grade!!! The finals were orals by pair & we had to memorize a lot for that, but it wasn’t as scary as we thought it would be. If you want an A, you gotta study really well because the tests are super objective + put effort in making your lab reports!! Idk if he changes his testing style tho 😕 good luck!more

- He's very kind lol he heard my friend and I bickering during lab work (jokingly) and he was laughing with us hahaha
- He's very knowledgeable in the science field and in life haha he has a lot of insights and his wisdom is something I really like about him
- He gives relatively easy tests as long as you thoroughly read and understand (or memorize) everything that's written on his handouts. He's very detailed so watch out. (He gave us this handout and one of his test questions was about the three animals that can be seen on the cover page of the handout looool)
- He's approachable so don't hesitate to ask him if you do not understand anything

- He's kinda malabo like there was a time my groupmates and I asked a question regarding our lab report, he told us to do something then when we followed him, he gave us a lower grade because apparently the correct one was the one we initially wrote (IDK IF WE HEARD HIM WRONG OR THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING BUT IM STILL GONNA INCLUDE THIS ANYWAY HAHAHA)
- He is very meticulous with the lab reports and he's not hesitant to give a low grade lol
- He is very particular with attendance
- He gives a lot of work hahah his class is demanding that you'll sometimes question if you're taking up a 1 unit class or 3 HAHAH
- He is very particular with your classroom behaviour so like make sure that you don't make daldal or whateva (i mean this is a no brainer)
I got him during the first semester and until now I still don't know if I like him or not (as a prof) honestly lol :)) I had great groupmates (THE BEST!!) but he's still asking more than what it's actually stated on the lab reports so i guess magis dapat lol I hope this helps and good luck!more

Had Delocado for 4 semesters in HS, 3-4 years ago. He’s an acquired taste. You’ll either do really good (because you understand and can ride with his teaching/test style) or you’ll have a hard time. I liked him because he was really passionate about what he taught and he always found ways to make sure you really understood his lessons. If he still teaches the same way, just listen in class and you’ll be able to explain most of the things in his tests. The questions in his tests are structured in a way that will catch if you really know what you’re talking about. He also sometimes does the modified multiple choice (where u have to choose the correct answer, explain it, and then explain why all the other options are wrong). To get high in his class, you really have to know your stuff. Don’t expect a really high grade if you don’t participate, listen, and study.more

Hard systematics lec with weekly quizzes and LTs

had sir emman last sem for systematics lec online (and evol bio lec for intersession) and id say that his class was one of the hard bio subjects i have taken compared to the other major bio subjects lmao im not sure how he'll handle ecology lec nor lab but for our systematics lec class, we had quizzes every module that were worth 20 pts (objective type and essay) and they were very challenging if u failed to grasp the topic/understand the topic. We also had LTs every end of two modules (same test types as the quizzes) and a final research paper (which was by pair or solo). For synchronous lectures, sir emman holds them every end of module (once a week) which really helps bec he clarifies stuff in those and gives more lectures that will help in the quizzes/LTs. Pros: - very organized when it comes to asynchronous video lectures and module pages - everything that comes out of the tests are discussed by him~ - very considerate when it comes to schedules, he once rescheduled our LT bec of smth that happened in the middle of the sem - gives random bonus pts for quizzes and LTs Cons: - very hard quizzes and LTs, dont be surprised if u get a one-digit score in a 20-pt quiz bec it's a common thing to happen in his class LMAO - final research paper is challenging (altho im not sure if he'll do this for ecology)(he will also really guide u for this naman thru consultations if may ganito) - high standards in essays/papers,,, he's very keen on specific details so dont try to bs ur answer in these overall sir emman will be a hard bio prof but i would take him over worse bio profs tbh bec he's considerate, organized and i learned from his class compared to other online classes. Just study really hard and take note of really important details for his assessments and you'll be fine heh.more
