- she's a very understanding prof 💙 u can approach and talk to her din
- very interesting synch classes ! has great insights about things and makikinig ka talaga
- she gave us bonus work! in our case, it's completely optional. we were asked to watch a movie/attend a webinar and we'll do a reflection paper about it ! it's worth 5%, can be exchanged to your "lowest" work na 5% din sa syllabus (lmk if malabo itong part na to i can explain further hehe). we had two!
- for me, she's considerate with submissions naman. esp if may suspensions/bagyo. if it's personal u can talk to her about it din.
con:
- almost doesn't return/grade our work so we were clueless about our standing
(idk if pro/con, but I'll still put here + tips)
- her grading system is over 4
- afaik our average class standing was around B+/B. for me, she's not an easy A.
- imo naging heavy ang bearing ng finals sa grades so u have to pay attention to it! pls don't cram like me hehe. pay attention to grammar and make sure na your references are good. follow her comments/suggestions as well. (idk if applicable ito sa fili12 but for fili11 yes)
- most reqs were groupworks,, but usually the shorter ones & discussion boards aren't
- if u can't attend synch sessions, you have to do an activity on your own as pambawi, also /4. (bc may times na nagpapagawa siya ng group activity in synch sessions)
- in our case, she was the one who chose our groupmates. it would be helpful if you'll be close sa kanila or at least vibe w them bc you'll work with them for the entire quarter!
- there were times na mahirap siya ma-contact (afaik it's because of intermittent internet connection & may bagyo noon) so magiging malaking tulong talaga beadle n'yo :>more

Really took the class for the relevant Fili 11.1 in actuality.
1. Everything said here.
2. English is allowed for the most part in “historical” part for “partial” but extra points for Taglish and Tagalog except for Filipino specific vocabulary and sentence constructions.
3. There is bonus work that can “replace” certain components of the grade.
4. Five point quizzes almost every meeting basically test the main theme or a certain keyword and a true/false.
5. There is a curve as well for midterms. But don’t let this slack.
6. Frequently is online.
7. MAKE SURE to read the readings before class. Sometimes it is difficult because it can get lost in emails and there are basic quizzes about the lesson before it is taught.
8. Pay attentively to the understanding, and not just repetition. That is what matters the most.
9. The class is mostly fun and has many activities for 11.1 students. You will be grouped though with you choosing amongst yourselves so make sure to come ten minutes early on the first day and you choose so make sure to attend the first day and get to know the others beforehand.

I forgot to add pala but she’s rlly understanding about the online setting! there were deadlines per outptut but they were all technically due by the end of the quarter! so if you submit past the prescribed deadline pero before the qtr ends, you get no minus pts for that! more

Took Miss Sha for a different subject (FILI 12) but to answer your questions: 1. Classes are very chill since Miss is not very strict (she will actually allow you to eat in class especially if you have a morning period) 2. Gadgets are allowed and she encourages asking questions if hesitant. 3. Requirements are well paced and her tests are usually very subjective but not terror 4. Not a problem if needed to shift online because she will do so even if there is no official memo for as long as you communicate with her beforehand. Overall, goated prof!more

Very chill prof, had her for FILI 12. She understands if you’re not great in Filipino. You can eat in class as long as the food does not smell super strong. There will be quite a bit of readings. Her class is very discussion heavy and often lively, she listens to all answers and does not judge. She will have check up quizzes often (no multiple choice, always true or false, fill in the blank and short response), make sure to read the modules posted. She gives bonus activities for extra points in the quizzes. She allows gadgets for note taking but avoid phones. There were some times we were online because of external factors and sometimes we went asynchronous because of her health.

She's a super duper kind and caring prof!!! Her requirement are all manageable! If you listen to the previous class or give her readings a quick read her quizzes are also very passable. She also gives out a lot of bonus points for attending talks that are actaully intresting. A large part of her grade comes from recitation and participation so maybe try to show that youre trying during class. Overall a 10/10 prof and would highly recommend her, felt like a breath of fresh air after dealing with other filipino profs who arent as nice.more

Hello! Took Sharmaine for Fili 12!
Shes super duper chill and lowkey doesnt care abt what ur doing (jus dont do it in her face).
Her classes are usually lectures then an activity or quiz on the previous topic then lesson. (Her quizzes are usually 5 items with 1 bonus (we had popculture, recent events, holiday dates as bonus questions))
Requirements were pretty light! Aside from the stress each morning for the 100 quizzes we had LMFAO. We had to film a podcast, make a Zine as our final, give presentations about our topic, etcetc.
She does shift to online if she feels sick, weather, or if the quality of air sucks (happened twice when i had her).
She’s one of the best Fili profs IMO!more

Hi! She was my FILI 11 instructor and all I can say is you’re in good hands. 🥹
She explains topics in a clear and interesting manner. She’s kind din and if you have clarifications, you can always ask her directly or through consultations. Considerate din when it comes to deadlines lalo na if nagkakasabay-sabay with other subjects.
She encourages reciting kasi we had recit points too (part of the grade) pero it’s doable naman lalo na we held several onsite sessions and you can also recite in English or Filipino kung saan ikaw mas comfortable tho it’s better pa rin if in Filipino talaga. 🙂
We also had group activities, short quizzes before the session starts which just comprises the previous discussion, individual paper about a play, and a final group requirement which was a topic / title defense and a research paper :>> May bonus points din pala for certain talks if you submitted a paper abt it based sa inupload niyang guidelines sa Canvas.
Overall, definitely A-able (got an A from her hehe). 🤗more

Insightful synchs; grades only come out at the end

what i rlly liked were her synchronous sessions! they dived deeper into the lesson kasi and they were rlly insightful! but if you don’t attend a synch, you’ll need to do an alternative output :< so i suggest na you attend all the sessions!
she has a very spunky grading system like i had grades like 3.67, 3.88 but it sucked kasi we only knew our grades at the end of the quarter :< so i couldnt rlly like bawi or like gauge my standing
for workload, it’s manageable naman with good time management! tho i suggest na you take every opportunity for consultation so you can get her feedback and know what she wants —> para higher grades!
there’s also an LT in her class, but i never got to take it because of the suspensions in 2nd qtr! so she gave the class the option to get matic A in it or remove it from our overall grade. we chose the matic A nalng HAHHAA
overall, idk anyone who’s gotten an A in her class but shes B+ able! i think you’ll do good if ure good in filipino hehe more

ahahhahahaha goodluck.... took her for FILI12 and she seems nice at first and really chill because she allows you to speak in taglish/english but apparently she grades pretty low (i also don’t know what she wants) and she DOES NOT show your grades UNTIL THE END OF THE QTR!! that super frustrated me because i didn’t know whether i was failing or passing... also all her assessments are over 4 points lang (even finals bruv)so like it’s either you get the full 4 points or you basically fail 🙂 (e.g if you get a 3.5 that’s 87% and if you get lower it goes even lower... so you must get 3.5++ in everything hahahaha) she also basically REQUIRES you to go to every synch session because IF YOU DO NOT, u have to do an asynch activity that’s also graded and over 4.
though she gave everyone an A for the LT but she gave an alternative LT parin for it so... idk hahaahhsjahamore
