Official identity is clear: Interdisciplinary Studies lecturer with a current registrar load in aesthetics, cultural studies of technology, gender-and-society ideologies, and popular culture. The only kept student writeup is one truncated negative note on lecture energy, unread-in-class chapters, form analysis in the readings' language, and a no-tech room. That is not enough for lean_avoid or take. Take the class if you will do the chapters and write in their vocabulary without a laptop; skip if you need high-energy slides or device notes.

Boring lectures, no tech, and heavy readings

Hi! For future lorenzana (artap) takers!
His lectures are some of the most boring things ive ever had to go through in my 1 year in Ateneo. His ppts are just black background and white text. Will call you out if you are getting sleepy or sleeping.
He required you to read entire chapters of books to which he BARELY expounded on during his lectures. In addition to that, during your onsite essay, presentation, podcast, and any activity hell make you do, he requires that you use the language and style of the readings (“Analyze the Form of this work using the words and concepts of the readings”).
One of the worst parts abt his class is the fact that he doesnt allow tech at all. No laptops for notetaking, no phones for doomscrolling, no ipad for notes too. (Dont try to be sneaky, he will call you out). Hes kicked people out for being noisy too.
Hes chill tho! but a bit too chill to the point where it seems like he doesnt gaf about you or anything. He submits grades last minute (literally on the day theyre due at the end of the sem) and he gives everyone an initial 95-100. IT MAY SEEM PERFECT BUT THIS GUY dropped EVERYONES grades down to 70’s-90’s. (My theory is that he hadnt finished grading and just submitted everyone as 100 to log it in, then changed it later once he actually went through your work).
I got an A! But I hated every second of his class😒. Most of my friends got B-B+ from what i heard!

sir lorenzana was one of my favorite profs when i took him tbh. all the topics discussed were very interesting, and his lecturing style was quite laid back and fun (tho he randomly calls on students sometimes so its good to be ready with knowledge on the readings to be discussed). the workload isnt too heavy din, though it seems like a lot at first. each module is 1-2 quizzes and reflection papers, though the reflection papers are very short (di pa ata umaabot ng 1k words), tas a few long exams / papers and a reporting din. again, it does sound like a lot when presented this way, but once you get into it talaga you’ll be surprised at how short they can be! also take note that i took his class during a regular semester so his class might look vastly different for intersession ayun lang!!! tldr if you have the chance to take him, id say go ahead talaga. his class is really fun and you really feel welcomed and engaged every session! no ragrets whatsoever ❤more

hi! taking his onsite class this sem:) it’s a three hour class (so brace yourself WHAHAHAH) but it’s genuinely such an interesting subject if youre into critiquing subjects like social media and AI.
same sentiments with the requirements; we had onsite quizzes that you can pass if youve read the ppts (plus points if readings din) and onsite LTs (if the module says required material, pls read/watch the vids bc he’ll include it in the test talaga 🙏). other than that, group reporting was really insightful and so were his discussions!
sir makes the content easy to digest and the ways he engages the class also make you really interested to critique and analyze pop culture:) TLDR, i recommend taking his class if you want more ‘relevant to our age’ topics but read all the material he gives bc they Will be a part of the test.

same thoughts for online!! my class w him was 5 hours so it was draining for me but his lectures were ok naman HAHHAHA as long as you know a lot of pop culture! the requirements were kinda heavy on my end since we had limited meetings (reflection papers, quizzes, presentation, and orals), but overall doable naman. he also grades high if you write abt the topics he likes 😅more

He was a pretty strict prof when it comes to presentations. He may come off as a laid back and chill prof but during discussions, he may call out students from an index card (yes we were required to submit one) and was asked a question (sometimes may follow up). I would advise to read at least half of the assigned reading before his class. For orals, he was really generous with the grade lalo na if he sensed that you really studied for it. On the flip side, his follow up questions can be harder than the actual thesis statement itself so really study everything.
Would recommend if you like a challenge but not if you want a lighter load. Insightful class and interesting prof.more

I took him last 2nd sem, 24-25. iirc, we had weekly readings. Each module had a quiz, then we had 1 or 2 papers, and we had 3 major outputs (another paper, group presentation, oral exam). Overall, the class’ workload wasn’t very heavy but not light either.
In terms of class discussions, sir teaches pretty clear, and his examples + in-class materials are helpful (he doesn’t upload/send the slides he used tho, so you might need to take down notes). Personality-wise, sir’s chill and kind.
I would say A-able with effort. Just make sure to read and digest the readings/go through the assigned materials and you’ll be good.more
