Take Magno for SOCSC 11 (and the unconfirmed 12 report) if you will annotate heavy readings, recite, and write analytical papers. HALLU!! It appears that Ma'am Nota might be teaching this subject for the first time. I've had the privilege of being under Ma'am Nota's guidance for two courses, with a third on the horizon…Hopefully (SocSc11 and Anth 101), and I also had the honor of being the beadle for her class last semester (Anth 101). Take note that my experience with Ma'am Nota was in the context of SocSc11 and Anth101, so the workload dynamics could vary in comparison to SocSc13.
-Ma'am Nota is an absolute gem! Her presence exudes MOTHER, auntie, and tropa vibes. Undoubtedly, Ma'am Nota is one of my favorite professors within our department, and I've observed that her teaching style remains consistently excellent. Ma’am is an anthropologist and has a lot of fieldwork experience that sometimes she shares. Ma’am is a great professor, she really knows her stuff and translate it to the class very well.
-Our class had a lot of readings and she puts it on a gdrive where you can access all the readings. Although the readings might seem heavy, Ma'am Nota thoughtfully structured the course to include only one weekly meeting, affording us ample time to delve into the materials. Should any reading prove particularly puzzling, Ma'am Nota warmly welcomes pre-class inquiries, graciously elucidating the content during our class.
-We had a seating arrangement, because that’s how ma’am checks attendance and take note of the recitation points. So wag kayong magtatangka umiba ng upuan. Ma’am Nota doesn’t mind if you arrived late as long as you approach her at the end of the class in order for her to record it.
-The class is a student-led discussion, very free-flowing, before you guys meet she posts some preliminary questions in the canvas page to give you guys a direction on how to start the discussion. Furthermore, even if one finds themselves unable to complete all the readings, participation can stem from personal insights, observations, or experiences relevant to the topic.
Sometimes she invites guest speakers of different expertise to share discuss their fields and researches (She invited a linguistic anthropologist and biological anthropologist during Anth101)
-Biggest tip: Recite all the time. During our ANTH101, recitation was 15% of the grade so just recite or ask questions ma’am will take note of it (literally may listahan siya HAHAHA).
- In terms of workload, pretty manageable! During our ANTH101 we had 3 quizzes, onsite, pen and paper. Her quizzes is easy as long as you understand the readings and paid attention to class. Di mo mabobola si ma’am sa essay she can smell BS. She grades fairly and give credit where credit’s due. Does she curve? Yes, ma’am curves but in our case she can’t curve since there are students who gets a perfect remark. (You will know when she jokingly says “Blame (name)”
-For our final output it was a groupwork, biggest advice get good groupmates and maximize the consultation. Ma’am can point out gaps and areas for improvement, if you guys are kinda lost she gives suggestion and direction on what to do for your final output. We were tasked to submit a draft/outline of our output and she graded it immediately with constructive feedback. We were also asked to resubmit so she can change the grade with a higher score.
-Ma’am checks and distribute the papers/ output ASAP naman so we can track down our performance.
-Lastly, CHECK THE SYLLABUS from time to time. Everything is there, from scheduled classes, required readings for the meeting, etc. Her syllabus is very detailed and organized.
-B+/A-able with a lot of effort kay Ma’am.
From a beadle’s perspective:
-Ma'am Nota is easy to reach and promptly responds to emails, often within the same day. On the first day of class, she'll request a seating arrangement outline.
-Occasionally, Ma'am Nota might email to announce class cancellations due to emergencies or her being sick. I advise to diligently check your email/ Canvas page.
-I wholeheartedly endorse becoming a beadle for her class; just ensure that Ma'am can place her trust and reliance on you. Being a beadle for Ma'am is an enjoyable experience!

she's unfair with attendance as even if you are even 30 SECONDS LATE from when ur name is called (even if you're there before she even starts the first sentence of her lecture), she'll mark you late, which is an equivalent of a half-cut.
her requirements are minimum and not too heavy, but she has 2 long tests (1 for 2 modules each).
she didn't curve bc she claimed there was one student who did too good that she couldn't even help adjust the other grades. she has no consultations and gives little to no feedback

NOT A-ABLE. B+ MAYBE with super high level effort. Maybe she was different for previous classes but she was a low grader for SOCSC13.
TBH I expected to get a decent grade at the end of the sem bc all of the grades that got given back to me werent low, but i was proven wrong! Feedback was minimal, and sometimes its very nitpicky. She’s also not considerate if youre late even by a minute, as in the moment the roll call is finished and u arrive, u are still considered late with a half cut. No gadgets and long ppt slides so expect ur hand to hurt a lot during class.
My tip is to recite a lot bc shes more likely to give u a higher grade if she remembers u apparently.more

not a-able but she’s a really good prof and you’ll definitely learn a lot from her! just prepare for the readings before class since she bases off her synch lessons there and always asks you to share your thoughts about it for points. her LTs were a bit tricky especially the essay portion (she annotates like every other line lol) and sometimes her grading can get quite confusing too
my tip is to always recite/participate, pass reqs on time because she really deducts points from late submissions, and try to make her remember youmore

i had her for socsci 13 rather than socsci 11. she is d goat! you’re in good hands me thinks.
you will deffo learn a lot from her & she knows what she’s talking about so don’t expect to mhema ur way thru her assessments or recits cause she can deffo tell hahaha she’s also very nice and doesn’t give boring lectures.
she encourages participation in class thru recitations (afaik she records how many times you do this) and challenges your ideas (in a good way). you will have to prepare (have notes or familiarize the reading contents) before class since there are assigned readings for each class. her exams were pretty straightforward and objective iirc(?) nothing extremely hard! if may groupings sa socsci 11 (cause we had sa socsci 13), just make sure nalang to get good groupmates para mas eggziting ang experience:) not to heavy on reqs, just enough to juggle with other major subjects.
i suggest to go the extra mile on her course and really try your best cause she appreciates/notices it.
she grades fairly sooo i would say b+ with effort and a-able with a lil extra effort! she sometimes expects a certain answer for essays but as long as u got the lectures and readings right i think you’ll be ok!

Had her for socsc 11 and 12 (both online). IIRC she gives heavy readings per module and you rlly need to read them because she randomly calls people for recit + you have to apply all of ur readings to your papers. Her readings are amazing tho and until now i still use them as references 🥹 Ma’am really pushes u to try and be more analytical w ur papers which I really appreciate. I love her sm that shes the one i asked for teacher recommendations 😆 TLDR read and annotate the readings + recite (for her to remember u)
