Take Valdez for LLAW 113 if you will read the Civil Code/textbook before every session, can handle timed true-or-false, and can write case-study answers to a narrow prompt. Lean away if you need a free A, cannot sit a quiz every meeting, or rely on older looser-quiz reports. Sample is two unique writeups on one course, so this is context_dependent rather than lean_take.

Hello, anon! I had him for LLAW 113 last sem. As a disclaimer, his testing style (as of last sem) seems quite different from previous reviews, so I'm not sure if this will be his testing style going forward, or if it was just a temporary experiment.
His grading system had four components: quizzes, midterms, finals, and a group project, each of which are worth 25% of your grade. I'll start first with the quizzes - five true-or-false items on a specified range of articles from the Civil Code. The items themselves are mostly lifted verbatim from the textbook, so you'll be alright so long as you read the coverage closely. However, you are only given 30 seconds per question, and the quizzes are typically given every meeting (so twice a week, though in the latter half of the sem we slowed to one quiz per week). Because Sir only discusses the coverage on the day of the quiz itself, you'll really need to devote a lot of time outside class hours to study the topics in advance. Each item on the quiz is worth 20% (so 5/5 = 100%, 4/5 = 80%, etc.), and you check the quizzes as soon as you finish, so you'll be aware of your scores throughout the sem.
The midterms and finals are all true-or-false questions as well (Sir initially described them as purely "objective" exams, which could have included multiple-choice and identification type questions too, but in the end he stuck to true-or-false questions for both tests). The good news is that a lot (if not all) questions are lifted from the quizzes, so the midterms and finals are a bit more manageable than the quizzes IMO. Even though there are two sets for each quiz, you'll hopefully be able to recognize at least some of the questions from whatever set you took. <3
For the group project, we had to make a contract for a specific kind of company (ex. catering company, accounting company, security company - Sir randomly assigns this), then present a critique of another group's contract. Sir gives a list of elements (ex. specific kinds of obligations) that your contract should include. Besides that, I'm not too sure how he grades, but he seems to grade fairly high (ex. all the groups in our class got a perfect score for the presentation); so I think you should be alright, so long as you include most of the required elements in your contract.
Besides the assessments, I personally feel Sir's discussions are a bit rushed - we mostly just skim through the articles, he gives one or two basic examples, and then we move on again to the next article. Recitation isn't graded - Sir will call people in alphabetical order and have them either read the article or answer a question about it. Again, since these discussions are always the same day as the quiz, and you'll typically cover at least 10-15 articles per quiz, I'd highly recommend finding other sources online so you can self-study in advance.
All in all, under the current system, I feel the class is A/B+ able with a *lot* of time and effort. The class is going to be a bit of a slog IMO, but it is doable if nothing else. Good luck, anon! <3more

his classes don’t simulate the thrill of real world law classes so if you’re someone who’s up for the challenge, then he may not be for you but tbh i think he’s the chillest prof out there.
he could be scary at first cause he had this thing where he made students read the ppt slide out loud, then asked us to turn around and recite the provision word per word (we couldn’t sit up until we got it right). though succeeding recitations were relatively chill bc we just read the ppt and were asked for our opinions. he’s also the type to call other students to affirm or reject the answer u gave and why.
i highly suggest u to get the book because it gives you so much advantage esp when he calls u to recite cause he’d ask situations that are literally on the book.
assessment wise, we had two exams which were t or f lang naman but it could get tricky since he’d modify words in the provision that u tend to overlook so be very meticulous. pay attention to his examples in class since those come out on exams.
my take on his assessments may be biased because i genuinely love law and case readings so although he assigned 60+ pages per meeting, i didn’t mind as much but it could be taxing for some cause sometimes he’d assign 100+ readings for a 5 point quiz so you’d be forced to read and understand everything 😭
for the final project, we were required to make a contract for our assigned industry and review contracts of other groups which i found rlly fun cause i alr have experience with handling my fam’s business contracts.
he also remembers you if you perform well or aced his tests. i didn’t expect him to recognize me even after a couple sems when we bumped into eo 😭
overall, he’s definitely a able tho idt he’s the type to curve (or maybe just a little?) but idk anyone who got an F at least in my class.more

one of the best teachers I’ve had so far! made learning marketing really exciting and enjoyable even if i’ve never taken a course on it. he has a lot of experience from working in diff industries and shares really insightful points outside of the formal class discussion.
- super prepared with scheduling, always has a slide dedicated to the schedule for the next few weeks (as someone who gets kind of frustrated when teachers just decide whatever i appreciated this)
- easy B-B+ but not easy A. quizzes are pretty ok, but like everyone said you’ll only get an A if you recite regularly during the lectures as well. basically you get the grade you deserve
- lectures were super interesting for me; great explanation of the concepts + lots of tips
- I really appreciated that he would sneak in panel presentation tips whenever he could relate it to a lesson HAHA
- quizzes/activities were manageable, but make sure to take final pres seriously bc that’s 20% of your grade and a lot of things will be done by group
- super approachable and nice
overall if i could take another class under him I def would. You’re in good hands if you take his class! 🙏 feel free to reply to this with any q’s abt the requirements hehemore

generally expect one per meeting, but sometimes he won't give a quiz if we didn't cover enough material during the class or if he feels like we're going too fast. the quizzes just total into one big grade at the end of the sem which is a chunk of your final grade. if you cut and there's a quiz, you'll get 0. i think he would be lenient if you message in advance with a good reason, but I'm not sure about thatmore

Unfortunately he really doesn’t listen. You can try, but unless he’s had a huge personality change, he really won’t curve. Your best bet is the final presentation and paper. Typically, the paper is graded very high/perfect. The group ranking presentation is the hard part 😭more

there’s gonna be a few quizzes, pero manageable naman. he also gives “essay” quizzes pero he gives the prompt almost a week before the quiz so you get to prepare.

Its mainly easy to get an A since his assessments are v simple. The most heavy one is just 5-item T/F quizzes at the start of each session based on like 30 pages in the book that he assigns at the end of the previous session. (really chill tho, takes 5 mins, and its checked lang by seatmate, had 13 quizzes total).
For exams (midterms & finals): its just like 60-80 items of True or False... and its easy one liners too (e.g., Contracts taken under the influence of alcohol are binding, T/F) HHASAHAHA finishable in 30 mins + its checked by seatmate too 😭 hes that chill
Teaching: i get other comments saying its super self-study, which is true bc of the quizzes before lessons + he kinda just reads the ppt (which is copy pasted from the book) but he gives occasional examples and hes funny naman so my class liked him a lot! its just a lot of reading nga but tbh skimming 1hr before class is fine bc his questions r super easymore

had sir valdez for 2 semesters and all i can say is he got stricter w his rules — he changed a bit. but overall still super chill. his recit is by seating arrangement and makes you read from the book. you have a quiz every session true or false but if in previous sems your seat mate checks your paper, this time he checks it himself. for midterm and finals there was a true or false portion and theres a case study portion which he can get particular with. he doesn’t grade too high for case study unless you get what he’s looking for exactly. average of our class was around C+,B but he curved and people got As. he does give Fs though.more
