Take Amante for the interactive sound / DAW class if you want a kind, approachable audio-engineer instructor and can learn Reaper (and other tools), work in a group, and do the bonus work. Expect a lighter, better-spaced load on intersession and a heavier one in a regular semester. Lean away if you cannot take on new production software or cannot form a reliable group. Sample is two writeups, so this is lean_take rather than take.

the best !!!!! Was the beadle for his class in intersession and it was probably one of the best and lightest class i’ve ever taken! He teaches the course with sir Paolo Gonzalez. How they work together is they basically take turns with the modules but usually both are present in synch classes. Kindest profs ever too !! Super approachable & quick to reply if there are any concerns with the modules or reqs. We had synch sessions twice a week (but prob just cos it was intersesh hehe) and we’d basically just discuss the modules during the synch classes or have fun activities abt the module. They usually don’t consume the whole time as well so as long as the module is covered, they’ll let you off. Workload was suuuper light. The modules are usually just short lecture pages then there are some graded activities in between but they’re unli retakes so you can just retake until you get it perfect HAHA Final project was a video group work about any recent advancement in science & tech (preferably in the Philippine context). Encourages consultations so they can check your topic before you submit it. Easy A with saks effort + you still learn a lot cos you have to go through all the content on the modules to get the perfect grade for that module. 11/10 would recommend 💜more

Hello! Super late, but I'll share a different perspective since I took the class in the first sem
What Helena said about Sir Amante is correct, he is very approachable, kind, fun, and informative (since he is an audio engineer).
I will also agree on the fact that the class can get technical because of the new software esp if you're not familiar with DAWs used in sound production. However, if you are taking it in a semestral pace, I believe you can learn the basics before the major outputs (some YouTube tutorials pati yung mga supplementary material na binibigay ni sir is guds na)
Workload was bigger since semestral yung setup namin:
- at most it was 2 quizzes
- individual recording assignments
- Sound Blueprint Project (group)
- Sound Manipulation Project (group)
- Sound Recording Project (group)
Semestral set up, so medyo may leeway kami with time and due dates.
B+/A-able with effort!
Tip: try to find something interesting to share sound-wise kasi it will help you in class participation and if sir still does it, he has this leaderboard thing that will bump up your grade if you placed in that leaderboard :3more

hi!! i super recommend the class if you're looking for something interesting or new to learn but i also would not recommend if you want an easy subject as you have to learn a new program (reaper).
sir is so fun and interactive to listen to! i never thought i would enjoy the class but sir is v kind and informative on the topic. he's one of my favorite profs ever in admu 🤍
so the class is all about sound and how to produce and use it. so topics range from different mics and how it picks up sounds, types of sounds, to using reaper (the program for the class). there's not a lot of reading but more videos on canvas about the topics, it does get technical tho sometimes! but sir also has games on guessing sounds and listening sessions during class times!
i had this class in intersession but i remember it was two quizzes, three sound groupworks, and one sound assignment (?). sir is always open to give feedback and comments on the assessments.
he's b+/a-able with effort! 🤍🤍more

Kind of late but I took him just this intersession. If this is the Sound Art Installation class (sorry di ko maalala class code), then he's a really great prof! The class is pretty technical because you have to learn how to use different apps and online tools such as Reaper (a DAW) but it's also a creative class so not super focused lang on the technical aspects. His assessments are spaced well so I didn't feel overwhelmed with the requirements. Choose good groupmates as well because most (if not all) of the major assessments are done as a group. Try to do all the bonus stuff, I think that really counts! I would say B+/A-able, and sir is really kind. I feel like this class would also be more fun during a regular semester, so have fun! 10/10 for Sir Amante :))more

I took sound art just this (ay 23-24) intersession. Given that sound art is an interdisciplinary elective, no coding is involved if that is your main concern.
For intersession sched, we met 3x a week on campus and once a week for synch. He discusses the lectures well and we have a canvas quiz after each module. The lectures are a bit technical (think of it as a STS or ArtAp level of technical), it isn't hard but you'd have to listen to his lectures. He also plays YT vids to
supplement the class discussions. He also made us record sound from our environment (city and nature (nature being in campus)) and share them in class.
The final project was done by group (can't really expound much on this since I took the class for my graduate degree and our final project was a bit more challenging) it was fun though.
The class was very light and fun. The reqs are also not that heavy. Find yourself good groupmates though and just enjoy the class.more

pretty cool guy! his quizzes are usually fill in the blanks or identification types that are directly taken from the slides, so it's pretty tedious but doable if you study! teaching wise he's very chill in class but can be a little boring at times. overall solid prof thomore

agreed with the other comments - he's pretty chill, but his quizzes will typically require you to memorize certain things from the slides he posts. he's pretty kind, though; he will accept or give partial points for answers which are close enough to the correct ones. the class is pretty relaxed all in all; just study the slides (which he posts in Canvas), complete the minor assessments (which are fairly straightforward), and you'll be fine!more
